  1. Two sisters, one controlling the movement of the sun and the other controlling the movement of the moon, reigned over the kingdom as benevolent diarchs, in harmony - princesses of night and day. But where the citizens worked, lived, and played during the day, in the sun's light, they would hide away to sleep during the night. The princess of the night, having put all of her love and devotion into painting the night sky in stars and aurora, creating a nightly masterpiece upon the sky, grew more and more jealous over time as citizens chose to foregoe the night, in favour of her sister's sunny day.
  2.
  3. One morning, as the princess of the day raised sun, the moon remained static, blotting out the sun - the princess of the night, in her jealous rage, had sworn never to lower the moon again, declaring the start of eternal night.
  4.
  5. Her sister tried to reason with her - that without the sun, the land would freeze and the people would starve. But she would listen to nothing. A battle took place to determine the fate of the world, to literally save the day, between the scornful, jealous, hate-filled princess of the night, and the despairing, lonely, betrayed princess of the day.
  6.
  7. The battle was long, and went poorly. The princess of the day seemed nearly defeated, when in a last-ditch effort, she grabbed the Elements of Harmony:- A set of six powerfully enchanted gemstones, each ideally controlled by someone embodying their represented virtue, which would be able to strip any living thing of evil. Without the embodiments of these virtues, however, she could only use them as an aid.
  8.
  9. With the aid of the Elements of Hermony, as her utter last resort, she imprisoned her sister in the moon for centuries. Time passed, and the story passed into legend. That is, until the first episode - on the thousandth anniversary of the Princess of the Night's imprisonment, and her story and been all but forgotten.
