  1. A block of oak sat on the workbench infront of the unicorn. She felt it mocking her for every idea she came up with for what sculpture it could be. Everything that ran through her mind was shot down as she tapped the butt of her carving knife on the table. A normal thing like a train or a bird wouldn't do justice to such a fine piece of wood. Something historical like the first contact or the founder of the city was too impersonal. And she couldn't ask Amelia to pose for her since she's pregnant. That 18 inch cube was the current bane of her existance.
  2. Christina just couldn't handle another day wasted trying to figure this out. The doorbell rang just as she got up to make some tea to help her relax and try focusing on another project.
  3. "Coming!" She opened the door to Henry, Amelia's fianceƩ who had just broken his left leg last week in a motorcycle accident.
  4. "Christie, how's that oak treating ya?" Henry smiled as he hobbled in.
  5. "Still taunting me," she sighed. "I didn't think I'd ever have this much trouble coming up with a sculpture. It's only more infuriating that I paid so much for it too. I was about to make some tea to clear my head, would you like some?" Christina led Henry to the kitchen.
  6. "That'd be wonderful, Christie." He lowered himself onto a chair at the table while his host started preparing the kettle.
  7. "Amelia's not with you today?"
  8. "She's had a long week so I thought I'd just let her rest while I go handing these out," Henry pulled an envelope out of his coat pocket for Christina.
  9. "You could've just mailed it, you know," pointing out her address on it.
  10. "Yeah, I could've. Except I was supposed to mail them last week."
  11. "Last week?"
  12. "Yeah, it's the invitation to the baby shower and it's in five days." Henry admitted.
  13. "Five days!" Christina yelled. "You dumbasses, why didn't you two do it sooner?"
  14. "I was gonna do it the d-"
  15. "Shut up," Christina interrupted. "I would never dream of missing my best friend's baby shower but this is so last minute." Though visibly upset, she knew it was going to be like this whether or not Henry pushed to give more time to plan it out. "Let Amelia know I'll be there."
  16. "Thanks, Christie," Henry knew everything would work out, but he was still tense knowing she keeps her knife with her. Christina read the invitation taking note of where their gift registry is, and went to finish making the tea. "So how was your date with Joseph?"
  17. "It was a great night," Christina exclaimed. "I'm still surprised Amelia was able to find such a gentleman."
  18. "Good to hear you found a man to your liking," Henry's smug expression was audible.
  19. "I-it wasn't THAT great of a night!" She flashed her knife at him while blushing furiously.
  20. "Calm down, Christie." He put his hands up. "I'm only teasing." Christina put her knife away but was still blushing. "But it is good that you enjoyed the date."
  21. "We do have another date planned this week, and I'm hoping everything continues to work out."
  22. "Dont worry so much," Henry reassured her. "From what Amelia has said, he enjoyed your company and is looking forward to seeing you again." Christina's expression softened up a bit as she brings the tea to the table. "And if it doesn't work out, then he just wasn't the one for you. There are still plenty of guys out there who would love to be with you." He takes a honey stick from the center of the table and cracks it open into the tea infront of him. "And if you're desperate, you could always show him how horny you are!" Making a gesture of a single horn on his forehead.
  23. Christina slams the end of her knife into the table, her face filled with fury. "Do you really find it funny to mock a lady like this?"
  24. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Henry apologised profusely. "I just wanted to put your mind at ease." Christina let go of the knife, leaving it in the table. She was more worried about her coming date than before.
  25. The room was quiet as they both thought to themselves for a moment. Christina was unure of herself while Henry tried to figure something out before he gave up and asked.
  26. "You and Amelia are so different, I'm amazed that you two have been friends for so long." Christina snapped out of her thoughts at Henry's remark. "If you have the time, I'd like to hear your version on how you two became so close."
  27. "Again?" She questioned.
  28. "Sure, I've got time."
  29. "Don't you have the baby shower invitations to hand out still?"
  30. Henry froze up. "Oh, yeah, I do. Well, some other time then." Henry finished his cup of tea and pushed it forward. "But Christie," he started. "You have to remember to relax once in a while. Sometimes it's best not to think about the future and just live in the moment."
  31. "You're right," Christina admitted.
  32. "And if something doesn't turn out the way you want it to," Henry started with the talk he usually reserved for the guys he rides with. "Just take it. No matter what happens, we all have to just ride on. You, me, Amelia, even Joseph. So take it easy, okay?"
  33. Christina sighed, processing what he said. It was true, everyone just has to keep riding on. It was then she got a devilish idea.
  34. "Yeah." She took the knife out of the table and started checking for chips or dullness. "Hey Henry."
  35. "Yeah, Christie?"
  36. "Do you think carving bone would be much more difficult than carving wood?"
