- BACKGROUND
- Samah and Tarek came to Canada in 2006 after fleeing the violence in Egypt. They have lived here for 8 years now and they have two children born in Canada, Sarah (8) and Aisha (6 years).
- Samah and Tarek took years and thousands of dollars trying to obtain permanent residence in Canada. Unfortunately, they have received very bad legal advice. Despite their strong record, their application for refugee status and humanitarian and compassionate application were rejected. Legal and political remedies (their members) have been exhausted and they now face imminent deportation.
- Samah, Tarek, Sarah and Aisha have built a life here. Verdun is their home. Samah Tarek and contribute to Canadian society as workers, parents, volunteers and community members in Verdun. Parents are waiting to receive confirmation of their selection certificate Quebec. Sarah and Aisha were raised here and have never lived outside of Canada. Both children go to French school district; Aicha starts kindergarten while Sarah is in the second year - if it does not withdraw Friday.
- Although the Khalifa family has spent nearly ten years to integrate into Canadian society and it is exactly the kind of family that Canada claims to open its doors, the family members are threatened with deportation to a country where they may be victims of violence and severe physical hazards.
- According to a report of amnesty international (/ Egypt: Roadmap for repression / 2014), violence in Egypt is unprecedented: thousands of people have been killed in the past year while violations human rights and state violence persist. In a letter of support sent to the Khalifa family, Amnesty cites a report from Amnesty Egypt dated July 3, 2014: "Amnesty International reports a rise of arbitrary arrests, detention, torture and agonizing deaths in detention, which provides a strong deterioration of human rights in Egypt "evidence. The letter concludes: "Amnesty International supports the request of Mr. Khalifa, Ms. [Samah] Abdel Meguid and their two daughters not to be deported to Egypt. First, the current situation of human rights in Egypt is alarming and it would endanger the family by exposing among other arbitrary detention and torture. "
- In addition, Sarah was diagnosed with epilepsy in September 2009 when she was only three years. Since her diagnosis, she received the care of a neurologist at the Montreal Children's Hospital. His current crises are difficult to manage and it is not yet known how epilepsy will develop. The difference between the quality and accessibility of medical services between Egypt and Canada is important as attitudes toward epilepsy. Sarah perhaps will not have access to the same quality of care in Egypt or even the support of his school, which has greatly contributed to the management of epilepsy in Canada, his country.
- If the deportation order is not canceled, Samah and Tarek will be forced to make a difficult choice: either to be separated from their two young children born in Canada, or have them bring in Egypt, a country in crisis children have never known and where Sarah would possibly deprived of essential medical care.
- We demand that the family is here in Montreal, intact, so that Sarah and Aisha can grow up with their parents in a safe environment that supports them
- Thank You!
