  1. mr, then try phospor based or sulfur based, or salt based
  2. Dinsdale Piranha - Today at 4:49 PM
  3. Yes! Lava crabs and fish!
  4. 🍴1
  5. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:49 PM
  6. salt? NaCl?
  7. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:49 PM
  8. no, otehr salts
  9. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:49 PM
  10. ah okay
  11. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:49 PM
  12. like chlorids
  13. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:49 PM
  14. yea
  15. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:49 PM
  16. and such
  17. and, no, dragons could exist xD(edited)
  18. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:50 PM
  19. well this wont hold up anyways, carbon has a melting point of 3,5Kc
  20. ... k = thousand not kalvin. kelvin?
  21. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:50 PM
  22. Kelvin
  23. and 3.5kC is 3500° Celsius
  24. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:50 PM
  25. yea, capped the wrong letters lol
  26. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:51 PM
  27. it would be eitehr 3500°K or 3.5°kK(edited)
  28. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:51 PM
  29. so a pure carbon based shell could wistand the heat
  30. now it's about preventing heat transferance, you know, to not cook them alive
  31. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:51 PM
  32. still, what if there is oxygen?
  33. DOOOOOM
  34. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:51 PM
  35. Depends on the natural binding of carbon in the lifeform
  36. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:52 PM
  37. eh....
  38. still...
  39. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:52 PM
  40. let me check what it's free electrons are
  41. Omnires - Today at 4:52 PM
  42. Did the Discover Channel do some mockumentaries some years back showing would life would be like if things like dragons and maremaids really existed? I rememeber even showing how they could have evoled too.
  43. Watson Dynamite - Today at 4:52 PM
  44. the only option would be if the lifeform could create a vacuum between the shell and their guts.(edited)
  45. No particles, no heat transfer
  46. Omnires - Today at 4:52 PM
  47. I'll see if I can find a clip about it
  48. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:52 PM
  49. carbon - carbon bonding is pretty strong, so it looks like that is feesable.
  50. the air inside the shell wouldn't have to be removed, as long as it doesn't get heated, but the shell would have to make an airtight seal
  51. and the shell itself would have to be vacum proof
  52. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:53 PM
  53. welp, if its in a connection that doesnt allow oen of the elements to react with oxygen at 3.5°kC then its good.. but thats going to be hard
  54. Watson Dynamite - Today at 4:53 PM
  55. ideally probably in many layers separated by vacuum space
  56. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:54 PM
  57. arca, its not about vacuum proof
  58. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:54 PM
  59. agreed, that would be best for preventivie heat transfer
  60. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:54 PM
  61. shell -> air -> organs
  62. Omnires - Today at 4:54 PM
  63. Found it. it was called Dragons : A Fantasy Made Real
  64. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:54 PM
  65. does gold reacto with osygen at 3500°C?
  66. *react with oxygen(edited)
  67. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 4:55 PM
  68. anaerobic life
  69. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:55 PM
  70. ?
  71. you mean bacteria and such?
  72. wont do
  73. Watson Dynamite - Today at 4:55 PM
  74. I would more say
  75. shell -> vacuum -> shell -> vacuum -> ... -> organs
  76. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:56 PM
  77. vacuum cant be heated
  78. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:56 PM
  79. ^ would prevent the 02 from heating
  80. the o2 still inside the "ball" of a creature i mean
  81. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:56 PM
  82. shell -I- vacuum -I- shell -> organs
  83. shells -> air -> shell -> organs

  87. Silicon-Based Life: Could Living Rocks Exist? - YouTube
  88. www.youtube.com [✅ High reputation]
  89. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:57 PM
  90. ah i see what you are talking about now
  91. i was thinking in a different ascept, was thinking armadillo ball, not plating on the entire body
  92. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:57 PM
  93. even air transfers heat, even when not very efficient, but at 1000°C its still able to fry soemthing after a few seconds
  94. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:58 PM
  95. totally, need a vacuum
  96. Schmuky - Today at 4:58 PM
  97. Still this?!:joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:
  98. Omg
  99. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:58 PM
  100. at that point it could live in lava, but now we have to deal with sensor organs
  101. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:58 PM
  102. yep, we get into matter
  103. Sik San - Today at 4:58 PM
  104. lavafish4life
  105. Schmuky - Today at 4:58 PM
  106. We sure as stubborn
  107. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 4:58 PM
  108. assuming the re-entry heats it at a fast enough cfm to warm the "center" of the rock before reaching inner-spheres of atmosphere(edited)
  109. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:59 PM
  110. being able to see is off the table, eyeballs would boil in an instant
  111. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:59 PM
  112. even solicon based lifeforms would die...
  113. Omnires - Today at 4:59 PM
  114. yes
  115. 7ux0n0 - Today at 4:59 PM
  116. as long as they are hydorgen based too..
  117. hm...
  118. Mr Arca9 - Today at 4:59 PM
  119. i was thinking like a sharks sensory, electromagnetic sense
  120. Watson Dynamite - Today at 4:59 PM
  121. you can't even pass light, since light is energy and energy heats
  122. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:00 PM
  123. maybe organs that can feel electro magnetic radation otehr than normal light?
  124. infrared?
  125. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:00 PM
  126. depends on what can go through carbon
  127. lemme see
  128. Watson Dynamite - Today at 5:00 PM
  129. lava exudes a lot of infrared
  130. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:00 PM
  131. no, the outter carbon layer will send off infrred isnce its heating
  132. Schmuky - Today at 5:00 PM
  133. You know, when civilization pictures "gamers", i dont think they picture a bunch of them staying on a chat room discussing... The existence of a certain creature that could survive vacuum, re-entry and life within magma
  134. What i try to say is
  135. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:00 PM
  136. electro magnetic could work as a base sense
  137. Schmuky - Today at 5:00 PM
  138. Pleased to be a part of it
  139. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:00 PM
  140. *will send off infrared sicne its heating
  141. Schmuky - Today at 5:00 PM
  142. :muscle:
  143. Omnires - Today at 5:01 PM
  144. Silicon-based life would use oxygen to make quartz in its body. You canuse that quartz to do things like make a shield
  145. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:01 PM
  146. it would be effective out side the lava for dealing with organic life that useses electricity to muscle movement
  147. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:01 PM
  148. its jsut which electro magnetic radiation? normal light is outta question
  149. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:01 PM
  150. yea just with that
  151. there is probably more, just haven;t though about it yet
  152. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 5:02 PM
  153. then again, kittinger survived above mach speeds in nothing but a parachute and high-altitude clothing
  154. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:02 PM
  155. we use electricity for muscle movements too...
  156. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:02 PM
  157. true, but the organ can probably filter that out
  158. else sharks would be all kinds of fucked up
  159. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:02 PM
  160. ?
  161. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 5:02 PM
  162. creature probably isn't heavy enough to get the same terminal burnup speeds
  163. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:02 PM
  164. what ya talking bout?
  165. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:02 PM
  166. sharks have that sensory
  167. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:03 PM
  168. yes, electricy isnt radiation..
  169. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:03 PM
  170. called a lateral line, they sense the eletrical impluses of fish
  171. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:03 PM
  172. and i sjut said we use electricy for muscle movements
  173. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:03 PM
  174. which means they would also be able to sense their own too
  175. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:03 PM
  176. since all our signals in the nerve system are electric signals
  177. they probably doo
  178. Omnires - Today at 5:03 PM
  179. You mean the things that sharks and rays use to see the electricy in the musles of other animals so they can find them even if they can't see them.
  180. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:04 PM
  181. yup, that
  182. little1 - Today at 5:04 PM
  183. beware these are maken a IRL Pacific Rim bot :stuck_out_tongue:
  184. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:04 PM
  185. they cant see, but feel
  186. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:04 PM
  187. feeeeeeeel
  188. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:04 PM
  189. you cant see electricity except it produces radiation
  190. except electro magnetic radiation...
  191. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:04 PM
  192. also, depends on the wavelength of energy too, the less dense the shell the more that can pass through it, but the weaker the animal becomes
  193. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:05 PM
  194. you knjwo which radiation i mean..
  195. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 5:05 PM
  196. if it's an invasion, they wouldn't just throw the rock, they'd aim it at the facing reentry pathway at optimal speed :sunglasses:(edited)
  197. Omnires - Today at 5:05 PM
  198. they use to find fish and stuff because even if they stop moving they still can't stop their own harts. So sharks and rays can still sense you as long as your heart is beting
  199. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:05 PM
  200. and aslong you feel, hear and see
  201. TORGUE F*CKING JOE - Today at 5:05 PM
  202. ARE YOU ALL DRUNK OR WHY HAVE EVERYBODY GONE SCIENTIFIC
  203. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:05 PM
  204. we arent
  205. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 5:05 PM
  206. drunk
  207. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:06 PM
  208. then there is also how the creature would consume food
  209. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 5:06 PM
  210. :eggplant:
  211. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:06 PM
  212. and science is the only thing that makes your explsoions possible
  213. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:06 PM
  214. ^
  215. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:06 PM
  216. probably turtle-like
  217. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:06 PM
  218. unless there is a way for it to create energy from the lava
  219. !?OrangeJuice¿¡ - Today at 5:06 PM
  220. vancian magic don't follow no rules :sunglasses:
  221. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:06 PM
  222. they cant
  223. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:06 PM
  224. i mean, food is just a primitive form of energy
  225. Watson Dynamite - Today at 5:06 PM
  226. I would say it could consume thermal energy
  227. or do some sort of photosynthesis shenanigans with the lava
  228. but I dunno
  229. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:07 PM
  230. but they probably got moveable shields thats press agaisnt eachotehrs hard enough to not let gasses through
  231. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:07 PM
  232. if the photons could pass through the shell it is possible
  233. vedrit - Today at 5:07 PM
  234. thermosynthesis
  235. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:07 PM
  236. again i think that deals with how dense the shell material is
  237.
  238.
  239. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:21 PM
  240. @Mr Arca9 overhere!
  241. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:21 PM
  242. sounds good
  243. there is a paper that says nano tubing doesn't generate heat from electrical current but that doesn't help with figuring out convectional heal transferance(edited)
  244. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:22 PM
  245. maybe lets dispose of the vacuum idea... vacuum woudl require the shell to be hard enough to support the vacuum
  246. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:22 PM
  247. depnds on the nano tubes too though
  248. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:22 PM
  249. no, i guess nanotubes wont help
  250. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:23 PM
  251. if you can populate it with mostly tubes, then the minor vacuum might be able to excist
  252. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:23 PM
  253. we need enough space between so the radiation doesnt get too strong
  254. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:23 PM
  255. distance between the two plates right?
  256. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:23 PM
  257. yes
  258. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:24 PM
  259. what if the tubes are long enough
  260. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:24 PM
  261. lets take a gas with low energy transfer
  262. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:24 PM
  263. that works
  264. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:24 PM
  265. you know the tubes work on micrometers? i talk about milimeters...
  266. they work beyond micro meters
  267. sry
  268. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:24 PM
  269. the tubes can be long, well any length i think
  270. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:25 PM
  271. still, its about usign them as beams
  272. and they are veeeeery thin
  273. so using single tubes wont work
  274. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:25 PM
  275. nope, need a lot
  276. but i was thinking the thin-ness would keep heat transferance down
  277. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:26 PM
  278. we need jsut a metrial that is able to support the shells while nto letting enoug energy pass through over the 5 min
  279. and they conenctiosn can be only a under milimeters for that too
  280. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:27 PM
  281. the gas idea would still need that support to prevent the shell from popping off, i am not sure the ablities of the nano tubes from expansion vs compression
  282. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:27 PM
  283. well, the pressure of the heavy lava vs the pressure of the gas
  284. and maybe let the hull be "inflatable"
  285. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:28 PM
  286. but what about surface pressure, the creature would have to walk on land too.
  287. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:28 PM
  288. pumping the gas in and out on need
  289. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:28 PM
  290. actually, heating the gas could expand it back against the lava, and on land the gas would cool and contract(edited)
  291. minor heat transferance could actually work in our favor here
  292. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:29 PM
  293. yes, while it is itself already highpressure so more energy needs to be absorbed
  294. so it could maybe be 1-2m under lava for the 5m
  295. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:29 PM
  296. so what's holding the outer shell back then?
  297. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:29 PM
  298. *5 min
  299. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:29 PM
  300. on land when the gas is still hot and expanded, something needs to keep the shell from just, falling off
  301. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:29 PM
  302. whats the weight of normal lvava per liter?
  303. liek i said, pumping in and out on demand
  304. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:30 PM
  305. hmm, depends on the compisition i think
  306. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:30 PM
  307. so it could release or cool it
  308. hm.. depends on the core too..
  309. i think we need to ask grummz about the planet core composition
  310. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:31 PM
  311. maybe i can diagram this. right now i think you are thinking something like | | but we need |--| to keep the shell attached to the lower layer
  312. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:31 PM
  313. iron, tungston, aluminum, copper, tin, whatever
  314. yes
  315. little beams
  316. zdoofop - Today at 5:31 PM
  317. if the volcanoes are icy, it's reasonable to assume that the core is cold as well
  318. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:31 PM
  319. think the nano tubes could do that?
  320. depends if the planet has a magnetic field or not
  321. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:32 PM
  322. so we got
  323. __
  324. || ||
  325. -----------------------
  326. darn, doesnt take _
  327. wait a sec
  328. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:33 PM
  329. yea, top layer, support, bottom layer
  330. i see what you mean
  331. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:33 PM
  332. ------------------
  333. || || ||
  334. ------------------
  335. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:33 PM
  336. i could see the creature filling it with gas to equalize the pressure
  337. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:34 PM
  338. and from above:
  339. x x
  340. x
  341. yes
  342. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:34 PM
  343. if they do it well enough the beams will take minimal impact. as the create can offest the pressure on them
  344. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:34 PM
  345. the beams should be strong enough too though
  346. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:35 PM
  347. pressure shock, needs to be able to handle rapid pressure changes
  348. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:35 PM
  349. it shiould maybe be able to pump the hot gas out and pump cold gas back in
  350. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:35 PM
  351. such as lava to air
  352. the viscosity of lava should allow us to do that
  353. also, guess my internet is slow, so replies are popping in like 1 minute after i send them lol
  354. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:35 PM
  355. so its a bit liek a venting system
  356. a bit here too
  357. sometimes, soemtimes not
  358. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:37 PM
  359. but the outside venting system would have to be pressure based
  360. 7ux0n0 - Today at 5:37 PM
  361. like just now...
  362. Mr Arca9 - Today at 5:37 PM
  363. exsesive pressure could pop open the ports
