- Just after quick scan I've got some suggestion. It would be good to add
- additional dimension to this dictionary: user (regular computer
- user/office user, manager, software programmer, network/admin
- specialist, phone user or digital photography user). The same word in IT
- can have multiple meanings depends who is using it.
- Interface is a good example (for application/software user it will be
- just GUI graphic user interface or how the application looks like,
- network engineer talking about interface would mean particular socket
- types available on device to connect it to network, similar will be for
- hardware specialist: all kind of sockets on circuit boards, for
- programmer it will be a peace of code API (application programming
- interface) allowing to communicate with some library/hiding some
- implementation details).
- Other good example is hacker, hacking - it's has a very positive meaning
- in software industry meaning top of the top specialist knowing some
- system to the bottom, hacking means solving very difficult problems
- using such a deep knowledge. So no surprise if some bank is looking for
- good hacker. On the other way the polish translation "haker" is matching
- more to cracker. Sometime hacker is being used in newspapers with the
- cracker meaning as well, so not for software/hardware engineers but
- targeting rather regular computer users (as audience).
- There is still a room for more IT words.
- Some example proposal from me of word that software engineers might
- meet: spike, spike code, doing spike - a peace of very initial code (or
- coding of such initial code), the one which is kind of draft, proof of
- concept and is not going to be a "production" code.
