  1. Small communities of fishermen often have an atmosphere of dreariness; the activities are monotonous, their surroundings boring, and their sources of joy are often restricted to the skipping of pebbles across the water's surface.
  2.
  3. Such a situation seems hopeless, if you disregard the power of the human mind.
  4.
  5. When burdened with the grueling monotony of life, these fishermen rely on their imagination to brighten their otherwise dull existence. Tales of heroes and monsters alike stir within the minds of these men and women, and over time, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur.
  6.
  7.
  8. At some point, a small community similar to the previously mentioned ones embraced the possible existence of ancient, incomprehensible monsters that rested deep within the darkest reaches of the ocean. They called them 'Elders,' believing them to be older than the world itself. They supposed that they slept within twisting tunnels of corroded stone beneath the sea floor, waiting to be awakened.
  9.
  10. What was once a fairy tale became a legend that spread across a small portion of the sea, inspiring many young sailors to uncover the location of these supposed resting places; and one day, they did.
  11.
  12. An unusually large crater was discovered on the sea's floor when residents of a small island began reporting an abundance of deceased sea creatures, ranging from fish to sharks, washing up on their beaches from the south.
  13.
  14. Due to the Arcane Government's rule of the island, they were eventually convinced to examine the origin of these deaths (and exterminate it, because these poor folk were starving.) This search resulted in the discovery of a strange green substance polluting the water, initially believed to have been some sort of waste; however, upon further inspection, it was found to be something much more unnatural.
  15.
  16. Like water, it could easily switch between a solid, liquid, and gas; unlike water, there was no reasoning for this. It shifted between states of matter without reason, even with no changes in temperature or surroundings.
  17.
  18. Touching, smelling, or even looking directly at the substance would cause extreme uneasiness, dizziness, and even hallucinations. Many of the people who came in contact with it mentioned lasting nightmares, though they could never remember what they were about.
  19.
  20. Determined to find the origin of this unidentifiable substance, the Arcane Government sent a few divers down to the crater in search of the source.
  21.
  22. It's said that only a single officer came back from the expedition, but it seemed his mind was left behind. The things he told the Arcane Government were never made public, but it was enough to make them re-locate the people of the nearby island and restrict access to the sea around the unexplained crater.
  23.
  24.
  25.
  26.
  27.
  28. This substance does not have a name to this day, and those who know about it choose not to acknowledge its existence; that is, because it simply shouldn't exist, but for some reason, it does.
  29.
  30. As with all other forms of matter, the power of this wretched substance can be harnessed through a "Curse."
