- [[Siegfried's downy swan hair was splayed against the crisp pillow. His muted frown was highlighted by the vivid flush of fever on his otherwise colorless face. Twitch. Breathe. Toss and turn.
- Something about the melodious prince was disjointed, though it was merely the stumbled note, the distraction claiming the attention of a practicing musician. Nothing serious. Just a cold. Just enough to sew a wish into his limbs, a faint desire to stay in bed, half-curled under the sheets that warm him and away from the sheets that he must grace with his seal.
- He couldn't, of course. Duty was foremost, as it had to be, but surely he could uphold his princely responsibilities just as well if he lay there for a mere five minutes longer?
- He pressed his thin fingers against his mouth to cage a sneeze, but a puffed "'choo" escaped, echoed by louder coughing. He closed his eyes with what serenity he could muster, a cool sigh signalling his brief surrender. It was a small matter, he meant to rouse himself fully in a few moments.
- Yet drowsiness was stronger than he had anticipated in the blackness, and when he blinked into the stickily humid awareness that followed an ineffectual nap about three hours later, realization quickly dispelled the fuzziness from his mind. He smiled apologetically, not that anyone he wanted to apologize to could see it, and ran a bemused hand through his hair. How rather troublesome this was turning out to be. Well, he would do what he must, to make up for the late hour...
- Another sneeze, this time with the tuneless accompaniment of a loud sniffle.]]
- ((ooc: Y-yes, I know I was the last person to post here... ^^; But there was this mental image. And I'm getting a cold, so what better time to make the prince sick, as well?))

- [It was unusual for her prince to be up later than her, but when she awoke that morning to see him still lying next to her, she thought little of it. For he did look so peaceful. However, when those few minutes of solitude had become half an hour, then an hour, she became concerned. Procuring a tray of breakfast from a nearby maid, she made her way back to the upstairs bedroom.]
- My prince...?

- Ah, good morning, Princess...
- [He made himself sit up to greet her, though a noticeable tremor dashed through the motion. His hand caught his forehead, and he shook his head to clear it. He found only dampened success, and peered at her groggily for a moment through half-lidded eyes. However, that was enough to spot her concern, and he smiled quickly around a quieter cough.]
- I'm sorry, I neglected the time... I'll be up in a moment.

- [Rue narrowed her eyes. Something was wrong here. There was something about the slow, languid way Siegfried moved, like the air around him had become thicker. His skin, too, normally imbued with such a pleasant pink hue, seemed paler. Too pale, she decided.
- Without another word she set the tray down and crossed the room to sit at his side, placing a caring hand on his forehead. As she suspected, the poor thing was burning up.]
- You're not going anywhere with a fever like that. Why didn't you call me if you were feeling like this?

- [That smile dimmed briefly at her words, and there was something strained about it when he recovered it. But, more than anything, he had no wish for his princess to worry. He laughed, intending to be dismissively pleasant-
- But perhaps not the best of ideas, as it lead to more coughing. He waited until he had most of his breath back to continue, though there his words were slightly ragged.]
- It's really nothing... Don't trouble yourself.
- [He brought his hand up to take hers, though the soft coolness of her palm had been wonderful against his heated skin, pulling it away from his forehead to give it reassuring squeeze.]

- [Her expression became worried, then stern at the sound of his coughing. His hand felt clammy against hers, like he'd been bathed in ice. His face looked the same.]
- It isn't nothing. You've a terrible fever, and that cough doesn't sound very good either. You should at least lay back down while I fetch the doctor.

- [When he opened his mouth, it was to insist that he was at least well enough to walk, but as he watched her, he softened under her steely gaze. And it was, admittedly, a tempting idea. A chill in the air that only he seemed to feel set a thin shivering along his spine, and he blinked drowsily despite himself, casting a resigned half-smile at her.]
- Very well, but it will take more than a mere cold to keep me abed.

- [Rue's expression softened. It was hard for her to stay angry with him for long, not when he looked so pathetic already. Standing up, she gave his hand a fond squeeze before turning to the door.]
- I will return shortly, alright? And I expect to find you in that bed when I do.
