Judging from those examples, thinking about killing him wasn’t enough to amount to “killing intent.” There needed to be some sort of concrete action associated with it. Yogiri seemed to perceive any action or phenomenon that could potentially kill him, and simply eliminated whatever he needed to in order to remove the threat.
