  1. ==Rainmakers==
  2. Something strange was going on with your charge, today. Normally she was giddy to be outside, but now?
  3.
  4. Drip. Drip. Drip.
  5.
  6. She was staring, searching the air for something.
  7.
  8. "Orchid?" you asked.
  9.
  10. "Th-there's something wrong with the sky, anon."
  11.
  12. "What, the rain? It's just water."
  13.
  14. A series of heavy thuds played out over the ground as the massive beast turned around, eyes wide. The grey day making her bioluminescent blues stand out all the more as lights in her mane stopped pulsating and her antenna bulbs were opened wide like a couple of spring flowers.
  15.
  16. "I know what water is! It's supposed to be below you! Or pumped in from a hose! In the ocean! Why is it up there?!" she asked, pointing at the dark clouds, head swiveling back and forth between the ominous clouds and her caretaker. "Why would humans put it up there?"
  17.
  18. All you could do for a moment was return that questioning look.
  19.
  20. "We didn't?"
  21.
  22. The kaiju turned all the way around now, crouching down to look at you more closely. "What do you mean you didn't? How else did it get up there? I've seen helicopters. I know you can fly up there. Why is it up there?"
  23.
  24. "Orchid, that wasn't people. We don't make rain."
  25.
  26. "Then who does?!"
  27.
  28. You shrug. "Just a normal part of the world. Nature, I guess."
  29.
  30. "Nature, like the fish? Fish can't jump that high, anon." The way she said that was via a chiding tone like a teacher telling a child that one and one was two.
  31.
  32. "No it just sort of does that. Water goes up, and then it goes back down. Evaporation and condensation."
  33.
  34. The kaiju looked up again, surveying the bay and ocean in the horizon. Not seeing any columns of water shooting up into the sky, she started smiling like she was finally getting the joke."You're making this up," she retorted, standing up to her full, imposing height. "It's okay, I like stories. Let's keep walking."
  35.
  36. "Wait-" you started, but she was already walking along the beach, giggling as softly as a carhorn to herself at your 'joke.'
