Exeunt

I put the key in my trouser pocket and looked back at Alice, who was holding a second item out towards me. I shivered, and the hair on the back of my neck began to rise. It looked like a couple of small magpie feathers bound together by a twist of bark and grass. I could sense the dark magic radiating from it and was reluctant to even touch it.
‘Take it,’ Alice said, thrusting it at me firmly. ‘You may well need it. It’s called exeunt and is a spell of undoing. It ain’t too far removed in what it does from the special key I gave you. It opens a door. Sometimes an underworld won’t release those who enter it. So just separate those feathers and, in an instant, you’ll be back in this world. But if you find Tom and Johnson, you need to be touching them so they can come back with you. Understand?’
