- A non-exhaustive list of words that are identical or similar in both English and Dutch. A basic introduction to the Dutch language, spoken in Belgium, South-Afica, Suriname and The Netherlands.
- I have left out any obvious Romanic words. These are most words ending in -(i)al, -ic, -ion, -y, as they have equivalents in many languages. For example:
- Artificial -> Artificieel
- Electric -> Elektrisch
- Fascination -> Fascinatie
- Relativity -> Relativiteit
- If I were to include the Romanic words with those endings as well, the list would contain thousands of words. Now only about 350, which is what I got to after a few hours of thinking.
- [English word here] = [Dutch translation]
- For a word carrying multiple meanings in either language, I have included a note if the translation counts only for one meaning. An English word followed by (n.) means that the translation counts only for the noun-form, not for any verb-form. Same for verbs, in which case I have added a (v.).

- IN CASE YOU WANT TO PRONOUNCE THE DUTCH WORDS (Examples from the list)
- -Book (n.) [English] = Boek [Dutch]. [Oe] sound = exactly the same sound as [oo] in "book" or "moon", this counts for all [oe]-words.
- -Claw (n.) = Klauw. Both [au] and [auw] sound like [ou] in "hour" and [ow] in "meow"
- ----> Same for all Dutch words containing the [ou(w)] sound. [Au] and [ou] are identical in Dutch. Also, the [w] sound in [ou(w)/au(w)] is always pronounced, even when there is no letter [w] in the word.
- -Light (n.) = Licht. [Ch] sound does not exist in English. Sounds like the [j] in Spanish (Jalapenõ, Javier), but with a lot of force on the [j], like a hissing sound.
- -Man = Man. Sound does not exist in English, imagine a Jamaican saying "Man".
- ----> Same for Apple = Appel
- -Moon = Maan. [Aa] = Does not exist in English, imagine a smiling Jamaican saying "Man" and hold the [a] for just a little longer than in "Man".
- -Shadow (n.) = Schaduw. Like the [J] from the "Light = Licht" example, but with an [s] in front of it.
- -Stone (n.) = Steen. Sound does not exist in English, Google Translator (the sound option) is the best way to find out.
- Those are the most important ones. Additionally, I should also mention that a [J] in dutch is always pronounced like the [y] in "year" or "canyon"; that a [d] at the end of a word is always pronounced like a [t]; and that the Dutch words "account", "baby", "bitch", "cruise", "fun", "musical", "pony", "weekend" are pronounced exactly the same as their English equivalents.
