Rules of the Above and Below

Commonalities of Both Sides:
-Once a person has traveled Above or Below, they can only be affected by things that also exist on whichever set of planes they have arrived in. (Ex: If a person travels Above, they can only be affected by other things that have appeared Above)
--In addition, persons and entities appearing on a level Above or Below can only be affected by those on their same level or beyond them.
-The further Above or Below a person travels, the more difficult it is to remain connected to the ground level. This disconnect manifests itself in visual distortions and disparities between what the traveler sees and what is "real" on the ground level.
-The longer a person stays Above or Below, the greater their affinity with the place becomes.
-With sufficient training, those who manifest abilities within the Above or Below can further manifest them on the "ground level", as well as affect things on the ground level from positions Above or Below.
--People who work with belief systems (religious, occult or otherwise) and are sufficiently attuned to the Above/Below are often able to manifest their abilities through their practices. It's not uncommon (inasmuch as anything regarding the Above/Below can be "not uncommon") to see people channeling powers through ritual, prayer and other practices dismissed by others as superstitious.
-Once you pass a certain level in either, time begins to stand still, and after passing a certain level beyond that, time appears to flow in reverse unless the traveler actively focuses on it. Despite this, re-entering the "ground level" places the entrant in the exact same point in time in which they left. (Though it is rumored that some have found ways to appear in the past and future.)

The Above/The Upstairs:
-Generally "brighter" than the Below/Downstairs.
-Entities native to these planes

The Below/The Downstairs
-Generally "darker" than the Above/Upstairs.
-It's common for people to see after-images whenever anything moves on this plane. This effect can diminish as a person's affinity with the place grows.
-Colors are often tinted strangely whenever a person is Below/Downstairs.
