  1. Lewis, Anthony, and Johnny: The Enemy from Egypt
  2.
  3.
  4. Anthony Monday is visiting a Museum in northern Minnesota with his friend Emerson Eells. The museum has a brand-new Egyptian exhibit. A Museum somewhere in Massachusetts also has a new Egyptian exhibit, but Anthony doesn't see any connection between the two. His cousin Becky lives in the Massachusetts town where that other museum is located, but when Anthony called her on the phone to talk about how both museums got new Egyptian exhibits at the same time, all she wanted to talk about was some boy named Johnny Dixon whom she has a crush on. Anthony had asked Ms. Eells, the town's librarian whom he is friends with, to accompany him to the museum, but she was preoccupied so her brother Emerson went with Anthony instead.
  5.
  6. "My sister doesn't know what she's missing", Emerson remarks.
  7.
  8. "The Egyptian artifacts they are displaying are newly acquired. I hope they aren't cursed or anything." Anthony worries.
  9.
  10. "I brought a little something in case they are", Emerson reveals. He produces a pendant from his pocket that is shaped like an Ankh, a cross-like Egyptian symbol that represents life.
  11.
  12. They soon arrive in the Egyptian wing of the museum ("wing" refers to the different sections of the museum, which house different kinds of exhibits). I notice 3 huge sarcophagi propped against a wall. These are coffins that pharaohs were buried in. One of them is open, with a mummy visible inside it.
  13.
  14. "Its probably just a wax figure", Anthony reassures himself. Emerson walks over to a triangle-shaped structure, a model of an Egyptian pyramid that is big enough for a person to walk into. As Emerson enters he model pyramid, Anthony hears maniacal laughter coming from somewhere nearby. Moments later, the model pyramid's door slams shut, trapping Emerson inside.
  15.
  16. Anthony begins scanning the area, searching for the source of the laughter. He spots a shadowy figure, standing atop the head of a model of the sphinx. The figure seems to spot Anthony as well and looses a bolt of energy that strikes the ground mere inches from where Anthony is standing. When the smoke clears, Anthony finds himself face-to-face with a jackal-headed warrior. The warrior lunges at Anthony, brandishing a halberd. Anthony manages to grab two staffs from a statue of a pharaoh: one that ends in a hook shape, and one with a spiked ball on its end. he knows these are called the crook and flail, and are symbols of the pharaoh. Using the crook and flail, Anthony fends off the jackal warrior and makes his way to the pyramid. Once he's close enough, Anthony pounds the door with the flail while using the crook to hold off the jackal's halberd. After a few minutes, Anthony manages to punch a small hole in the pyramid's door. Emerson's hand reaches through the whole, clinching the ankh necklace. The necklace begins to glow and the jackal warrior dissolves into nothing.
  17.
  18. "This ankh necklace repels Egyptian spirits and curses", Emerson explains. Anthony and Emerson notice Ms. Eells walking towards them, with newspaper and TV reporters right behind her.
  19.
  20. "The curator called the papers and TV station to report strange happenings in his museum. I figured you two would be right in the middle of such happenings", Ms. Eells explains. Anthony turns to look at the sphinx, but the shadowy figure has vanished.
  21.
  22. Johnny Dixon and his friend Professor Childermass are on their way to the Massachusetts Museum. Prof. Childermass has been invited to the grand opening of the museum's new Egyptian exhibit and he brought Johnny with him. They also tried to invite Fergie, another of Johnny's friends, to come along, but Fergie is away visiting relatives in Michigan. When Johnny and the Prof arrive at the museum, the curator is waiting just outside the front door to greet them. A pig-tailed, pre-teen girl in blue skirt is also waiting for them. Johnny recognizes her as well. Her name is Becky Monday, and she has a huge crush on him. Johnny would find Becky's consistent flirting annoying, but she also loves telling him about her cousin Anthony, who lives in Minnesota. Apparently, Anthony has had his share of weird adventures, just like Johnny has. Johnny often tells Becky about his own adventures, which are often as exciting as any of the stuff she has said Anthony got involved in. The curator asks Prof. Childermass to step into his office for a moment, leaving Johnny and Becky alone.
  23.
  24. "How about we take a...romantic...tour of the museum?", Becky suggests, leaning up against Johnny. Johnny pulls away from Becky, but she grabs his arm and drags him through the museum. They come to a replica of the Titanic, a famous cruise ship that sank on its maiden voyage, despite supposedly being "unsinkable". Becky drags Johnny up onto the ship's deck, and over to the front of the ship, just above the figurehead. When Johnny stands at the edge of the ship, he momentarily forgets that Becky is there. overlooking the entire inside of the museum, which the ship's deck is high up enough for one to see the entire museum from it, Johnny feels like he's king of the world. Becky takes this moment to plant a kiss on Johnny's lips, bringing him back down to Earth. He instinctively pushes Becky away, causing her to fall over the side. Becky clings to the ship's rail and Johnny pulls her back up. The two of them hastily disembark from the Titanic, which is scheduled to "sink" in 20 minutes (the ship is animatronic, and every two hours it "sinks" like the real Titanic did, only to sail back out through an opening in the wall a few minutes later). Johnny and Becky head towards the Egyptian exhibit, meeting up with Professor Childermass along the way.
  25.
  26. "The curator tells me there was a strange incident at a museum in Minnesota, involving that museum's Egyptian exhibit", the professor explains.
  27.
  28. "I know all about that", Becky remarks, "My cousin Anthony was there when it happened". The three of them walk into the Egyptian exhibit. Johnny gets an eerie feeling almost immediately. He hears cackling coming from the direction they had just come from. A shadowy figure is standing on the deck of the Titanic. The sarcophagi in the Egyptian exhibit begin shaking, and a mummy emerges from each one. As the mummies charge at them, Johnny, Becky, and the Professor split up. Johnny runs through the Egyptian Exhibit and into the next exhibit after it, which happens to be a World War 2 exhibit. There are guns on display, including a bazooka, but none of them are loaded (of course). Johnny grabs a bazooka and bashes a mummy upside its head. While the mummy is stunned, Johnny climbs into a tank. He manages to start the tank up (having to "hotwire" it) and jumps out of it as the tank runs over the mummy. Johnny runs back through the Egyptian Exhibit as fast as he can.
  29.
  30. Becky and the professor run the opposite direction, with the professor climbing onto the Titanic to confront the shadowy figure while Becky runs past the Titanic. She ends up at the dinosaur exhibit. As a mummy tries to grab her, Becky trips the mummy. As it falls over, part of its bandages come undone. Becky quickly wraps the loose bandages around the ankle of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton. When the mummy tries to attack Becky again, the T-rex skeleton collapses on top of it. Becky quickly runs back to the Titanic to see how the professor is doing. She meets up with Johnny at the Titanic just as the professor climbs off of the ship.
  31.
  32. "Whoever or whatever that shadow was, they disappeared in a puff of smoke when I tried to approach them", Prof. Childermass explains. The three of them leave the museum as reporters from the newspaper and TV descend upon it.
  33.
  34. "I'm not in the mood to give a bunch of interviews right now", the professor explains, "We should go somewhere the media won't find us".
  35.
  36. "They'll likely be at your house as well as mine", Johnny points out.
  37.
  38. "You can lay low at my place", Becky suggests, "My parents are out of town for a while, so its been lonely there anyway". Not seeing a better option, Johnny and the professor take her up on her offer. Becky leads them to her house.
  39.
  40. "If your parents have been away for a while, who is watching over you?", Johnny asks Becky.
  41.
  42. "The butlers", She remarks, "We have two of them". A big mansion comes into view. Johnny realizes the mansion is Becky's house.
  43.
  44. "I'll instruct the butlers to keep the reporters out. You two should spend the night here", Becky recommends. Johnny and the professor are too tired to complain. Becky leads them into the mansion, which she explains has 30 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, and 10 kitchens. Johnny and the professor rush off to find the nearest bedrooms. Johnny sees Becky head through a big door at the back of the mansion, seemingly going into the backyard.
  45.
  46. Johnny enters the first room on the 2nd floor, which is one of the bedrooms. Professor Childermass picks a bedroom on the first floor. Both of them are asleep not long after their heads hit their pillows. Johnny wakes up only an hour or two after falling asleep. The mansion is dead quiet. Johnny heads downstairs, remembering a 1st-floor kitchen he saw right next to the stairs. After downing a snack, he starts to head back upstairs, but then notices the door at the end of the hall, which Becky had went through. Johnny finds himself curious as to what lies beyond that door. Part of him figures it leads to her bedroom (as the daughter of the mansion's owners, her bedroom is likely a whole lot bigger and fancier than the ones he and the prof are sleeping in) and he's afraid if he goes through the door, he will walk in on an undressed Becky, but another part says the door doesn't even remotely look like a bedroom door (even for a rich couple's daughter's bedroom). Johnny works up the courage to walk over to the door, open it, and step on through to the other side.
  47.
  48. As Johnny surmised earlier, the door leads to the mansion's backyard. Johnny notes that the backyard seems to have just about everything. There are multiple swimming pools, a patio with at least 5 grills, a mini-golf course as well as a full-size golf course, a small baseball diamond, a basketball court, at least 3 swing sets, a tower with multiple slides emerging from it (like you see on a playground or at a park), a wrestling ring, and an outdoor stage/theater. One of the butlers is teeing off on a hole at one of the golf courses. Johnny hears a splash coming from one of the pools and Becky emerges from it, wearing a swimsuit the same bright blue as the skirt she had on earlier. She quickly notices Johnny.
  49.
  50. "I like to go for a swim before bed", Becky explains. Johnny notices the skirt she was wearing laying on a towel along with a pair of pajamas, also bright blue in color. He hears the sound of a golf ball falling into a hole in the distance.
  51.
  52. "Franky likes to play golf at night. The butlers' house is on the other side of the big golf course. Jacques, the other butler, has already gone to bed", Becky explains.
  53.
  54. "This house seems to have just about everything. Exactly how rich ARE your parents?", Johnny wonders.
  55.
  56. "Millionaires", Becky reveals, "Care for a swim?"
  57.
  58. "No thanks. I should be getting back to bed", Johnny responds. Becky picks up the pajamas and ducks into the boat house near the pool to change clothes. Johnny starts to walk off, but something makes him stop. Becky had to unlock the door to the boat house. This means she likely hadn't been inside it tonight before now. Becky must've changed into her swimsuit standing right here on the towel (explaining why her skirt is lying here). She's gotten so used to being alone here that she doesn't even worry about privacy (she only went into the boat house to change this time because of Johnny being with her). Johnny realizes that, despite being annoyed by her flirting, he actually feels sorry for her. When Becky emerges from the boat house in her pajamas, Johnny walks up to her.
  59.
  60. "Now that I think about it, I'm not really all that tired. How about you give me a tour of this place", Johnny suggests. This surprises Becky, then excites her as she realizes Johnny may be having a change of heart about her.
  61.
  62. "I'll be glad to", Becky muses. She leads Johnny around the mansion's backyard.
  63.
  64. "There are 5 pools in total. If you look under the water in each one, there's a pipe tunnel. You can use this tunnel system to travel between the pools. there's also exit from it that brings you out in the golf course's water hazard. I'd avoid that one if someone's golfing. You might take a golf ball to the head when you surface. The tunnels are used to pump water into the pools and water hazard", Becky explains. She points out a house on a hill past the golf course.
  65.
  66. "That's the butlers' house. The golf courses were added to the backyard because my parents wanted to give the butlers a gift on the anniversary of the day they were first hired", Becky continues, "If you look in the other direction, you'll see where I stay". Johnny looks in the direction she mentioned, and sees a fancy-looking house with a pink roof and pink outer walls. As Johnny and Becky approach it, Johnny realizes the house is quite large. Its probably big enough that you could fit both his house and Prof. Childermass's house in it at the same time. Johnny and Becky step inside Becky's house and Johnny immediately notices that the inside walls are the same shade of light blue as Becky's skirt, bathing suit, and pajamas.
  67.
  68. "If you haven't figured this out by now, light blue is my favorite color. I did allow my parents to make the outside of the house pink", Becky explains. She steps into one of the house's bathrooms to relieve herself, leaving Johnny to explore the house on his own. Making his way down the hall, Johnny notices the bedroom at the end of the hall is bigger than any of the side bedrooms. It must be Becky's bedroom. Johnny steps into one of the side bedrooms and contemplates sleeping in it tonight. The bed here is a lot comfier than the ones in the mansion's bedrooms. Johnny can't resist lying down on the bed. He must've dozed off because the next thing he knows, Becky is sitting on the bed beside him stroking his hair and humming what sounds like a lullaby. Johnny jumps out of the bed in a hurry, accidentally knocking Becky to the floor.
  69.
  70. "Sorry. I didn't mean to nod off in your bed like that", Johnny apologizes.
  71.
  72. "No problem. This is just a guest bedroom. MY bedroom is at the end of the hall", Becky explains, "There's a Ferris Wheel in our backyard right near here. You could probably see the whole mansion grounds from the top of it". She leads Johnny out through the back door of her house and over a hill to where a gigantic Ferris Wheel is standing. Franky has just finished his Golf round, so Becky signals to him and asks him to start up the Ferris Wheel. Johnny and Becky climb into one of the seats as Franky walks towards the controls.
  73.
  74. "The young mistress has finally found love", Franky mutters to himself as he starts the Ferris Wheel moving. Becky asks Franky to stop the Ferris Wheel when the seat she and Johnny are in reaches its highest point so Johnny can see the entirety of the mansion's grounds. When the Ferris Wheel stops, Johnny realizes he can see more than just the mansion grounds. he can see all the way into town. He can even tell where his house and Prof. Childermass's house are. As Johnny looks around, he finds himself drawing closer to Becky as she draws closer to him. Without even realizing it, the two of them are in position to kiss. Just as they are about to lock lips, a bolt of lightning strikes a roof somewhere in the mansion's backyard. After the resulting smoke clears, Johnny recognizes the shadowy figure from the museum standing on the roof where the lighting struck. Franky notices the figure and aims a flashlight at the roof where it is standing. Before the shadowy figure can be illuminated, it fires a bolt of energy at Franky. The butler is hit right in his chest and tumbles to the ground. Johnny and Becky can tell Franky is dead.
  75.
  76. Jacques, the other butler, was woken up by the bolt of lightning. He rushes out of the butlers' house and runs towards the Ferris Wheel, where he notices Becky and Johnny high up in a seat. When he reaches the Ferris Wheel, he sees the dead body of Franky. Johnny points towards the roof where the shadowy figure is standing. Jacques draws his gun and begins shooting, but the shadowy figure is seemingly unfazed by the bullets.
  77.
  78. The sound of gunfire rouses Professor Childermass from his sleep and he rushes into the backyard. Still half-asleep and in a hurry, he steps on Becky's swimsuit (which she had dropped on the ground when Johnny asked her to give him a tour), slips, and falls in one of the pools. Meanwhile, the shadow figure blasts Jacques and knocks him out (he's still alive, though). Then, it turns its attention to the kids. The figure hurls a bolt of energy towards Johnny and Becky. It misses them, but strikes the Ferris Wheel. The wheel itself dislodges from its legs and begins rolling across the yard toward the golf course. The Figure fires more blasts at them, but the wheel is moving too fast for him to hit them. Johnny and Becky jump from the wheel and roll into a sand-trap. The wheel eventually rolls into the water hazard and sinks until it is half submerged in the water. Johnny stands up and realizes Becky is out cold. He picks her up and runs toward her house. The shadowy figure turns to blast them again, but a blast comes out of nowhere and hits the figure before it can. Johnny sees a chubby man with a bushy beard rushing towards them, holding out a cane in the direction of the shadowy figure. A blast of energy fires from the cane and hits the shadow figure.
  79.
  80. "Get to the house!", the man yells at Johnny. Cradling Becky, Johnny rushes into her house. He walks back to the back bedroom, Becky's room, and deposits her on her bed. For some reason, Johnny feels the need to crawl onto the bed from the other side and tuck Becky into bed. After all that, Johnny is exhausted. Before he can climb back off the bed, Johnny collapses.
  81.
  82. Johnny wakes up some time later and notices a large number of dolls scattered around the room he's in. He then notices a sleeping girl in the bed beside him. She has her back turned toward him. Johnny realizes the girl is Becky Monday, and she looks cute when sleeping. Then, he realizes he's in Becky's room, and had been sleeping in the same bed as her. Johnny freaks out and falls off of the bed. The noise rouses Becky from her sleep. She slips out of bed, exiting it from the side Johnny was on. As Johnny pulled a blanket down on top of himself when he fell of the bed, Becky doesn't see him. She sits down on the blanket (not realizing Johnny is under it) and removes her pajamas, then slips through a door beside the bed into her closet. Johnny crawls out from under the blanket and makes his way out of the room.
  83.
  84. In the living room, Johnny finds Jacques the butler and the chubby big-bearded man who saved their lives chatting with each other. Prof. Childermass is in the kitchen fixing breakfast. Jacques is in no shape to have tried to fix breakfast. He has an arm and a leg each in a sling. Johnny takes a seat at the kitchen table. A few minutes later, Becky walks into the living room. She's wearing blue shorts and a blue t-shirt. The chubby man walks over to Johnny and Becky.
  85.
  86. "I am Jonathan Barnavelt, a friend of Becky's parents. I came here to take Johnny Dixon, Professor Childermass, and Rebecca Monday to New Zebedee, Michigan for their own safety. Dangerous evil forces are after them, but my friends and I can offer protection", the man explains, "I suggest we leave after breakfast. My friend Mrs. Zimmermann, along with my nephew Lewis, went to Minnesota to pick up Miss Monday's cousin Anthony, who has also been targeted". Johnny realizes this is the first time he's heard Becky called by what must be her full first name. Everyone eats breakfast in a big hurry, and then Becky returns to her room to pack her bags. Jonathan asks Prof. Childermass to leave his car here (Jacquez promises to look after it), as Jonathan plans to drive everyone to New Zebedee in his car. Becky emerges from her room lugging two suitcases and wearing a light blue backpack that is obviously stuffed full. Jacquez instinctively tries to carry the suitcases for her, but his injuries prevent him from lifting them. Johnny takes one suitcase, while Jonathan grabs the second one. Jacquez pulls Johnny aside before he can leave the house.
  87.
  88. "Take care of Becky for me. Since her parents are always away on long trips, Franky and I were pretty much all she had, and Franky's gone now. I know you and Becky like each other. I also know that, after last night's hectic, you ended up sleeping in Becky's bed with her. Try to take your relationship with her a bit slower, please", Jacques requests. Johnny blushes, but agrees to the butler's terms. Jacquez says he is going to call someone to fix the Ferris Wheel and make preparations for Franky's funeral. Johnny hurries out the door to where Jonathan's car is waiting. Johnny realizes that Becky never knew he was in her room, and decides to keep it that way. Jonathan stops at Johnny's grandparents' house so Johnny can pack his own bags, and Prof. Childermass walks over to his house to fetch his own luggage. Once everything is loaded into the car, Jonathan heads out of town en route to New Zebedee, Michigan.
  89.
  90. Fergie Ferguson, a friend of Johnny's, is already in New Zebedee. He is visiting his aunt and uncle, who live on the outskirts of the town. After hearing about the attack at the Massachusetts Museum on TV, Fergie calls Johnny's house to check up on him. Johnny's grandfather answers and explains that Johnny is heading to new Zebedee at the moment, with a man named Jonathan Barnavelt. Fergie recognizes that name. His aunt and uncle have mentioned the Barnavelts as being the town eccentrics. Fergie hangs up from Johnny's grandfather, then called Father Higgins, a priest that he and Johnny are friends with. Father Higgins is aware of what happened at the museum. When he finds out Johnny is headed out-of-town, Father Higgins decides to pack up and go to New Zebedee himself, and check up on Johnny. After the priest hangs up, Fergie rushes out of the house and into town. He wants to be at the Barnavelt House when Johnny arrives. As he runs through town, Fergie encounters a tall, dark-haired girl. He recognizes her as Rose Rita Pottinger, a friend of the Barnavelts.
  91.
  92. "You heading for the Barnavelt house too?", Fergie asks Rose Rita, "A friend of mine will be arriving there soon".
  93.
  94. "Yes", Rose Rita replies, "I heard that Jonathan and Mrs. Zimmermann were bring some special guests to New Zebedee. I'm worried that whatever attacked them will come after my friend Lewis". Fergie and Rose Rita continue walking to the Barnavelt House, with Rose Rita leading the way (as she actually knows where it is). As the two of them walk through the heart of town, they suddenly get an eerie feeling. They notice an ominous-looking house nearby that gives both of them the creeps. another boy and girl are standing in the house's front yard. They appear to be slightly younger than Rose Rita and Fergie. Both have blonde hair and dark-colored outfits. The boy has on a black vest and black trousers. The girl is wearing a black skirt and blue jeans. They both seem as interested in the house as Rose Rita and Fergie are.
  95.
  96. "Is this your house", Fergie asks the boy and girl.
  97.
  98. "No. we're just here to investigate it. Word on the street is, this place is haunted", the boy explains, "I'm Chucky Crier btw, and this is my sister Coraline". Coraline points up at one of the house's windows.
  99.
  100. "I think I just saw what looked like an old lady in that window", Coraline reveals. Then, she takes off running into the house (the front door is hanging off its hinges, adding to the creepy vibes of the house). Her brother runs in after her.
  101.
  102. "I've had experience dealing with the supernatural. If those two encounter anything like that in there, they will need my help", Rose Rita explains. She runs into the house.
  103.
  104. "Same here", Fergie adds, and he too runs into the house. Immediately after Fergie enters the house, the front door slams shut. Rose Rita and Fergie hear Chucky's and Coraline's voices come from a higher floor and rush up the nearest flight of stairs. All manner of formless spirits are flying around everywhere. Rita and Fergie dodge ghost after ghost and make their way up to the third floor, where they notice a light coming from a room at the end of the hallway. Rose Rita and Fergie rush into the room to find Chucky and Coraline tied up with ropes. The "old lady" is in the room too. judging from the jet-black cauldron simmering near the old lady, Rose Rita and Fergie have to assume she's a witch, and not a good one. The witch holds a broom out towards Rose Rita and Fergie and fires green energy blasts from it.
  105.
  106. "Her broom is her wand", Rose Rita explains. She and Fergie do their best to dodge the blasts, but both of them eventually get hit and ropes materialize and bind them just like Chucky and Coraline.
  107.
  108. "Now that I have all of you little annoyances under control, I can finish my potion. It will allow me to vanquish my enemies", the witch cackles. Then, everyone hears the sound of footsteps rushing up towards them. Second later, Father Higgins bursts into the room.
  109.
  110. "Let my friends go, you witch", He demands, holding out a small bottle of holy water. He moves towards the witch's potion and motions like he's going to dump the holy water into it. The witch panics and tries to blast Father Higgins with her broom. The blast its the bottle of holy water, shattering it and splattering holy water all over the witch. The ropes binding Rose Rita, Fergie, Chucky, and Coraline vanish. The witch tries to walk towards the five of them, but she appears to be dissolving into liquid.
  111.
  112. "She's melting", Chucky realizes. The witch's legs and arms have vanished. She's nothing but a little bit of torso, neck, and head.
  113.
  114. "You all are fools. A great battle will soon befall this town. Nothing will survive. THEY were only after Lewis, Johnny, and Anthony at first, but now all of you have made them your enemies, and none of you will leave this town alive", The witch rants. She dissolves completely before she can say another word. Father Higgins leads Rose Rita, Fergie, Chucky, and Coraline downstairs and out of the house. Rose Rita brings the witch's cauldron with her so Mrs. Zimmermann can dispose of its contents properly.
  115.
  116. A short time later, everyone arrives at the Barnavelt house. Lewis, Anthony, Johnny, Mrs. Zimmermann, Jonathan, Ms. Eells, Emerson, Prof. Childermass, Becky, Rose Rita, Father Higgins, Chucky, and Coraline are all present. Anthony and Johnny chat about each other's adventures (and Anthony is surprised to learn his cousin Becky is now essentially Johnny's girlfriend). Mrs. Zimmermann hid the witch's cauldron in her basement to dispose of later. Fergie is surprised to see a really fancy car in the driveway. Prof. Childermass explains the car is called a DeLorean. Since he left his car in Massachusetts, Prof. Childermass wanted to rent a car to drive while in New Zebedee. Becky, however, wouldn't settle for that. Being wealthy, she insisted on buying a car instead on just renting one, and she insisted on buying the fanciest car they could find. Chucky and Coraline take this opportunity tell everyone a bit about themselves. For starters, they are orphans. Their parents had been magicians like Jonathan and Mrs. Zimmermann, but weren't very good at controlling the magic they produced. The both lost their lives when a spell they cast backfired. They were sent to live with an "uncle" who turned out to be an evil sorcerer. After thwarting his evil plan, the two of them ran away and have been staying with various members of the Capurnaum County Magicians Society. Mrs Zimmerman admits that the CCMS had asked her to look after the Crier siblings until the current crisis has passed. She explains that the "crisis" which began with the attacks at the two museums likely involves a group of sorcerers. The shadow figures that appears at the two museums and Becky's house may have been 3 different sorcerers, or the same sorcerer launching 3 different attacks. The Sorcerers have targeted Anthony at one museum, Johnny at another, and likely Becky at her parents' mansion.
  117.
  118. "Becky and Anthony were never aware of this, but Becky's parents are magicians. They had been members of the CCMS when they lived in Minnesota. When they became rich, they decided to move to Massachusetts to try and get away from all this magician stuff. They didn't want to risk having some evil sorcerer kidnap their daughter, but magic eventually followed them to Massachusetts anyway. They have been going on trips to investigate reported of sightings of known sorcerers in locations close to Massachusetts. Unfortunately, the CCMS lost contact with them a while ago. If we can defeat the threat that is coming for us, we may be able to learn where Becky's parents are", Mrs. Zimmermann explains. Everyone is ready top take up arms and prepare for battle, but Mrs. Zimmermann suggests that they all eat supper first. They'll have an easier time fighting the ultimate evil with full stomachs. As they eat supper, Anthony sees Lewis and Rose Rita eating together. Johnny and Becky are also eating together. It makes him wish he had a girlfriend to eat together with. He notices the Crier siblings sitting off to the side. Now that he can get a good look at them, he realizes Coraline is kind of cute. Anthony walks over and sits down beside Coraline, earning a dubious look from Chucky. Chucky gets up to put his plate in the sink, then heads for the bathroom. Anthony uses this opportunity to speak with Coraline.
  119.
  120. "You know, you're kinda cute. Perhaps you'd be willing to hang out with me some time. Becky, the rich girl over there, happens to be my cousin, so I can easily access money when I need it", Anthony suggests. He's never been much good at flirting with girls. Before Coraline can respond, the power goes out. Everyone rushes out of the house to find the power is out for all of New Zebedee. With a chorus of creepy cackling, 5 shadow figures manifest on various rooftops. Then, a 6th figure appears with a flash of lightning. This figure appears to be a buff man from the neck down, but the head on his shoulders is that of a jackal, rather than a human.
  121.
  122. "Anubis", Mrs. Zimmermann announces.
  123.
  124. "Explains the shadow figure's habit of conjuring Egypt-related entities. It must've been Anubis all along", Lewis realizes.
  125.
  126. "The other 5 must be the sorcerers that have been targeting us. They more than likely conjured Anubis to give themselves a powerful ally for this final confrontation.", Jonathan adds. Anubis lets out a loud howl and all sorts of Egyptian horrors appear throughout the city: Mummies, Jackal warriors, sphinxes, and the like.
  127.
  128. "Charge!", he yells. As Anubis's army converges on the Barnavelt house, everyone takes off running in different directions. Lewis and Rose Rita flee down Main Street with a horde of mummies chasing them. They manage to slip inside a hardware store, but the mummies soon enter the store as well. As the mummies get closer to where Lewis and Rose Rita are hiding, Lewis notices a small chainsaw nearby. He fires it up and begins tearing into the mummies. A mummy tries to sneak up behind Lewis, but Rose Rita arms herself with a sledgehammer and brains the mummy before it can reach Lewis. The two of them burst out of the hardware store brandishing their new weapons.
  129.
  130. Johnny and Becky bypass the hardware store, not seeing Lewis and Rise Rita duck inside it. Two jackal warriors are pursuing them. After a couple of streets, Johnny notices a gun store nearby. He and Becky rush into the store. The jackal warriors follow them, freaking out the store's owners and employees. While Johnny and Becky hide, the jackal warriors begin killing the employees as they search the store. The Eells siblings arrive and hold out their ankh pendants. Johnny and Becky grab the nearest guns and shoot the jackal warriors. Already weakened by the pendants, the jackal warriors drop dead. Now armed, the Eells siblings continue using the pendants to weaken Anubis's monsters and make them vulnerable to gunfire. Johnny and Becky flee from the gun store and head back in the direction of Barnavelt house.
  131.
  132. Anthony and the Crier siblings find themselves at the three-story house where the witch was. The ghosts are gone, having been exorcised by Father Higgins. The three of them decide to hide in the house for a little while. A sphinx lands on the roof shortly after they enter it. Anthony, Chucky, and Coraline begin searching the house for weapons they can use. Anthony finds a large pitchfork in a 1st-floor room containing a broken fireplace. The Crier siblings manage to find a crossbow and 3 arrows. Anthony meets up with them on the third floor, and they walk up another flight of stairs to the roof. The sphinx has been pacing back and forth on the roof, but takes flight when the three of them appear and lunges at them. The crier siblings attempt to fire their arrows at the sphinx, but it dodges all three by climbing higher into the sky. It swoops down and grabs Coraline, knocking Chucky to the side at the same time. The bow lands at Anthony's feet. The Sphinx is too high up to stab with the pitchfork, but Anthony gets an idea. He picks up the bow and notches the pitchfork like it is an arrow. he aims at the sphinx and fires. The pitchfork impales the sphinx in its side. Carrying the added weight of Coraline made the sphinx unable to dodge in time. The sphinx drops Coraline and falls to the roof. Anthony catches Coraline in his arms. The sphinx slams into the roof and the roof collapses, dropping the sphinx down into the house and causing the whole house to shake violently. Anthony scoops up Chuck and rushes down and out of the house. Moments later, the house collapses. Prof. Childermass drives up in his DeLorean, having seen the house fall down. Anthony puts the Crier Siblings in the backseat and then climbs in himself.
  133.
  134. "You saved me", Anthony hears Coraline say. Unlike her brother, she hadn't been knocked unconscious. Prof. Childermass drives back to Barnavelt house. Jonathan and Mrs. Zimmermann are battling the sorcerers along with other members of the CCMS, while Father Higgins keeps Anubis busy. Anubis's army has been pretty much decimated, but a good chunk of New Zebedee is in ruins. Lewis, Rose Rita, Johnny, Becky, Anthony, and Coraline head into Mrs. Zimmermann's house to try and find some kind of magic they can use to fight Anubis and the sorcerers. Prof. Childermass takes Chucky into Barnavelt house to treat his injuries. The Eells Siblings join Father Higgins in fighting Anubis. The attempt to use their strategy of ankh pendants and gunfire against Anubis, but Anubis blasts the pendants away and melts the guns.
  135.
  136. Lewis, Rose Rita, Johnny, Becky, Anthony, and Coraline enter Mrs. Zimmermann's basement, where she keeps all her magical items. Rose Rita notices the witch's cauldron is in the basement as well, the potion still inside it. Rose Rita begins to get a strange feeling about the potion in the cauldron, and one by one the others can sense it too. They lift the cauldron and carry it out of the basement (it takes all 6 of them to move it because they are all exhausted from the battle). They carry it towards Mrs. Zimmermann's front door. Outside, Anubis has his back to the house.
  137.
  138. "All of you are fools. Mere bullets won't stop the Egyptian Lord of the Dead. Once we're through with you, my sorcerer friends and I will conquer this world", Anubis taunts.
  139.
  140. "Conquer THIS!", Lewis, Rose Rita, Johnny, Becky, Anthony, and Coraline yell in unison. They dump the cauldron's contents at Anubis's feet. The potion gives off an eerie green light and begins to surround Anubis. A vortex appears at Anubis's feet and he begins to be sucked down into it. Anubis begins screaming and energy streams shoot out of him, grabbing each of the five sorcerers and pulling them toward Anubis. Anubis and the sorcerers disappear into the vortex, which then closes, leaving no trace of the potion, Anubis, or the sorcerers behind.
  141.
  142. About a week later, everyone is gathered at Becky's parents' mansion. The deceased butler, Franky, is laid to rest in a cemetery just up the road from the mansion (Father Higgins insisted on overseeing the funeral service himself). The other butler, Jacquez, has pretty much recovered from his injuries. The Ferris Wheel has been fixed as well. Jacquez decides to adopt Chucky and Coraline, so they will be living at the mansion from now on instead of bouncing between CCMS members' houses. The CCMS repaired all the damages to New Zebedee and modified New Zebedee residents' memories (best not to have the whole town aware that there are a large number of the magicians in their town). Miss Zimmermann also has a possible lead on the location of Becky's parents, but Becky wants to rest up a bit before going on what would likely be a wild goose chase.
  143.
  144. "How did you kids figure out that the potion in the cauldron was meant to vanquish Anubis?", Ms Zimmerman asks Lewis, Rose Rita, Johnny, Becky, Anthony, and Coraline.
  145.
  146. "It occured to me that the witch didn't need the potion to vanquish us, if that's what she'd intended to do. She could have easily strangled us with the ropes she conjured to bind us. She said the potion would "allow her to vanquish her enemies". Why would she need a fancy potion to do away with a bunch of non-magician children? Furthermore, when Father Higgins melted her, she warned us about the coming battle. if she was working for the sorcerers, why would she want us to know in advance that they were gonna attack us", Rose Rita explains.
  147.
  148. "Quite clever, Rose Rita. To be honest, I recognized the cauldron the moment I saw it. The witch you met was an old acquaintance of mine. And don't worry about her. The whole "melting" thing was her way of pulling a disappearing act, so she's very much alive somewhere. She knew Rose Rita would bring me the potion to dispose of, and I would know what to actually do with it", Mrs. Zimmermann admits.
  149.
  150. "What exactly happened to Anubis?", Becky asks
  151.
  152. "The potion reacted with him to open a portal to the underworld. Anubis was forced to return there, and thankfully he took his sorcerer friends with him. We shouldn't have to worry about them attacking us again", Mrs. Zimmerman confirms. She walks off to get a drink. Lewis walks away with Rose Rita, while Johnny walks off with Becky, leaving Anthony alone with Coraline. Anthony starts to talk to her, but Coraline stops him.
  153.
  154. "Please don't try to flirt with me again. you're terrible at it", Coraline remarks. Then, she grabs Anthony and kisses him. After a second, they break off the kiss and turn to face Chucky, who is sitting on a bench nearby. He gives them a thumbs-up and they resume their kiss. Music starts playing somewhere nearby. Anthony notices Lewis is dancing with Rose Rita, while Johnny is dancing with Becky.
  155.
  156. "Shall we?", Anthony asks, holding a hand out to Coraline. She takes his hand, and the three young couples proceed to dance the night away.
