- [22:34] lpf so i have watched kara no kyoukai.
- [22:35] lpf i don't think my feelings have ever been so mixed.
- [22:35] lpf to start with what i love.
- [22:37] lpf i love how nearly everything happens at the same time of the day - how everything happens in a VERY restricted number of places with FEW characters, plus how the ending (before the credits) directly connects to the beginning, offering both a satisfying closure and a boundary in time at both ends of the story.
- [22:39] lpf that's similar to the point santetjan made on to-y. except i found it MUCH more stressed in kara no kyoukai.
- [22:41] lpf the boundaries in time create a sense of focus, of literal 'slice' of life. the limits in terms of places and characters create a brilliant comfy atmosphere and contribute to the focus.
- [22:42] lpf (with the aforementioned time of the day to unify the whole in terms of aesthetics)
- [22:42] lpf however, story-wise...
- [22:42] lpf there is the issue of the dialogues.
- [22:42] lpf first of all.
- [22:44] lpf the entire 'scenery, mixed with the 'soul' stuff was too abstract to connect to actual happenings without resulting in a contrived plotline.
- [22:44] lpf 'scenery'
- [22:45] lpf a lot of the characters' insights are also simply empty, with much less depth than it tries to make it sound.
- [22:46] lpf and in that respect, the dialogues were often cringeworthy.
- [22:46] lpf as for the story, i must say i liked how you don't understand what was happening (whilst the characters do) until the end.
- [22:46] lpf though it turned out to be contrived.
- [22:47] lpf meaning that the execution is commendable, the substance isn't.
- [22:47] lpf a conclusion that also applies to my first remarks.
- [22:50] lpf as for my opinion, i should say that i loved the 'atmosphere' (which is much more than visuals, a considerable part stems from the writing, and some of it appears AFTER watching the whole thing, while one could assume 'atmosphere' is only the immediate feeling)
- [22:50] lpf as in, loved.
- [22:50] lpf but! i hated the dialogues, and found the story an interesting idea, but ridiculously contrived.
