- (THIS IS NOT EVERYTHING, THIS IS JUST WHAT I CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW)
- Just a quick note, 3 frames may sound like nothing, but it really adds up over time. OoT runs at 20 FPS unpaused, so 3 frames = 0.15 seconds. This adds up really quickly over time and can save minutes.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Movement:
- - Movement is the most important aspect of the game.
- - ROLLING: As a general rule, you want to Roll every 16 frames. Before you start your first Roll, you want to Walk for 4 frames to get to full speed. Sometimes it's better to Roll immediately for your first Roll, but it depends on distance.
- - Here's a LOTAS of Optimal Rolling: https://youtu.be/jqmqkcIwXsg
- - BACKWALKING: Backwalking is the fastest movement speed (as adult) and the 2nd fastest for Child. Backwalking and Rolling are the same speed, but Backwalking gets to top speed faster than Rolling does. You want to Backwalk if you have to do 4 or 5 more Rolls and if you don't have to cut any corners.
- - SIDEHOPPING: As Child, this is the fastest form of Movement. However, it's only faster if done frame perfectly, so it's better to Backwalk in most cases. Sidehopping up Slopes is very fast though. Sidehopping is also good to Sidehop off of ledges, but this is usually only faster if you have the angle for it. For Example, after Savewarping after Jabu, you want to Sidehop off of Link's house instead of Backflipping and keep Sidehopping.
- - BOX MOVEMENT: Try to avoid Box Movement. This is combining Backwalking and Sidehopping together to move in a "box" like pattern. Don't underestimate how fast Rolling is. There are some places where Box Movement is good, and sometimes it's good for the sake of reducing Lag.

- **Quickdrawing, which includes:
- - ROLL QUICKDRAW: If you target before you roll, you can pull out an item such as Hookshot and Roll 3 frames after pulling it. You can do it without stopping optimal rolls.
- - SHIELD QUICKDRAW: The most common one. Just target and hold Shield after pulling out an item. You can do this while backwalking, running, jumping, sidehopping, etc. You can also press B to pull out the sword then hold Shield right after to quickdraw it.
- - DOOR QUICKDRAW: You can pull out items in front of doors 3 frames after pulling it out. With first person items, Link doesn't aim if you pull it in front of a door.
- - LEDGE QUICKDRAW: You can draw an item right before Link grabs a ledge. You can also do this right before Link walks off a ledge to grab it. Additionally, you can press an Item in front of a ledge and press A 3 frames later to grab. If using Hookshot / Bow / etc., hold Target. This one isn't useful in a lot of places.
- - JUMPSLASH QUICKDRAW: Like Roll quickdraw, you can press B then 3 frames later press A (while targeting) to Jumpslash without pulling out your Sword.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Targeted Aiming
- - If you hold Target while using a First Person item (Bow, Hookshot, Boomerang, Slingshot), you can aim faster. However, if you have to aim really high, this is not good.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Quick Vine Climbing
- - If you Wiggle the stick between Up/Down and Left/Right (only works sideways), you can Climb a tiny bit faster. This is really hard to do when going purely sideways so it's better to do this when you're staircasing climbs.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Skipping Fall Damage Animation
- - If you hold target before you touch the ground, you will skip Link's fall damage animation.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Ledges
- - 3 things here.
- - 1: You can press A in front of a ledge to climb it faster.
- - 2: If your shield is in your hand BEFORE you walk off a ledge and grab it (i.e. backwalking off a ledge), Link climbs about 1 second slower each time. Try to use an item to prevent this when possible.
- - 3: If you want to let go of a ledge, you can hold A and he will let go on the first frame. You can hold A from anywhere at any time and he will always drop ASAP. This applies for grabbing blocks that you push; you can just hold A to grab.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Aiming
- - To aim optimally, DON'T FLICK THE STICK! You want to put light pressure on the control stick when aiming. This will give you more precision and will make it overall faster to aim.
- - When killing something with Hookshot in FIRST PERSON mode, you can tap Target to cancel out of it while the Hookshot is going to skip pressing A to cancel it after. This is useful on Moblins in Sacred Forest Meadow and Skulltulas scattered throughout.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Text
- - Mash A, B and C-Up for text. Yes, C-Up advances text for some reason.
- - When playing Warp Songs or using FW, you can press B to be able to select the options faster. It's basically quick text.
- - There are some cutscenes where the text auto scrolls, but there is no blue box at the end of it. For these text boxes, you can press B at the start and with some text boxes this saves time. For example, in the Light Arrow cutscene where Zelda talks about how she gave you the Ocarina of Time, you can press B during those dialogue boxes to save 2 seconds.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Equips
- - Everyone has preferences for where their items go. Route your equips based on where you want them, but if you have to put that item on a button that's not your preferred button, don't change it; you lose about half a second each time you swap where it is.
- - Memorize your equips! Don't have to look at a route for every equip every run, or just halfass it and equip what you think.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Cutscenes
- - You can Jumpslash, Slash, Backflip, Sidehop, or Jump into Cutscenes to gain more distance. Cutscenes cancel your Rolls so these are good options to get distance.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Jumpslashing
- - Some people surprisingly don't know this, but you can get more distance with a Jumpslash if you hold a direction on the stick. If you don't hold anything, he'll stop moving after a second or two. If holding nothing is not required for a setup, hold a direction!
- - With Hammer, your analog inputs get REVERSED if you recoil off of the wall due to the speed you get.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Curving Backwalks
- - You can actually curve your Backwalks if you hold slightly Left / Right of down. It's hard to get good at this and it's easy to lose time to this, because if you hold more than you're supposed to, Link stutters.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Jumping
- - You get more distance with a Jump if you jump at the end of your Roll, since that's where your max speed is. Using a Bomb at the ledge makes you Jump even further, but how far it pushes you depends on how close you are to the ledge.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Hookshot
- - For some reason, if you Sidewalk or Sidehop and pull out Hookshot Link's arm is closer to the wall and further down. Without this, the Water Temple Hookshot setup wouldn't work. Additionally, you can pull out Hookshot / Bow, press A to cancel, and while holding Up or Down, you can press Hookshot / Bow again and hold to extend Link's arm forwards. This isn't very useful though.
- - It's important to note that where your Hookshot goes depends on how you use the button. It's different if you hold the button down VS tapping the button. Know when to use both.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Damage
- - Slashes are the weakest attack, Jumpslashes are the Strongest. By default, your Crouch Stab does 1 damage but changes depending on what Attack you do. Quickspins / Weak spins do the same amount of damage as a Slash, but Great Spins do the same amount as a Jumpslash. Interestingly enough, Great Spin damage stores as Slash damage to your Crouch Stab.
- - Storing Damage: In most cases, it's optimal to store Jumpslash damage while Jumpslashing into a Cutscene, when you have nothing to do and are waiting (i.e. Twinrova), or just Jumpslashing the enemy before Crouch Stabbing.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Blocks / Pots / Bomb Flowers / General Item Pulling
- - You pick things up slower if you have something in your hand. It's the slowest if Sword is in your hand. If you can't conveniently put away your Sword, pull out a different item instead, like Stick or Hookshot before grabbing something. It's a few frames faster.
- - It's generally the same speed to pull an item out regardless of something is in your hand or not. However, this is different with Hookshot / Bow / Slingshot and Boomerang. Link actually pulls these items faster if something is in his hand already.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Camera Stuff
- - When you Target, hold a direction that isn't where the camera is facing, and let go of Target, the camera snaps to that position. You can use Inverted Camera by tapping Target during this snap. It's easier to do Inverted Camera when moving forwards.
- - This applies to Doors with Door Knobs only. If you target as the Camera is turning around to be behind Link, you will Target on the first frame you can. This does not work if the Door is locked though. This is useful in Water temple when going up to Morpha.
- - You can manipulate the Camera by simply holding a direction. For example, you can Slash left or right to change the camera to be in your favor. This can be useful for setups. You can also hold a direction into a wall to force the camera to be a certain way.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Swimming
- - You can mash B faster to swim. However, if you mash B too fast, you actually slow down. You need to do it in a quick rhythm.
