  30. Ah, here's something different all right. Fresh arrival into the Fifth City, marvelous place that it is. And early in my misadventuring, an urchin came across me and became something of an accessory to my mishaps. Or perhaps more properly dragged along. On the plus side this does mean that the urchin will actually survive to adulthood, but on the other hand, he's probably going to see a lot more weirdness than he normally would. And here in London, that's definitely saying something.

  32. Still, ten years playing the Empress and the Masters all off of each other, life was a very interesting thing. My existence is a thing of many aspects, but being the very source of the first natural light my young companion saw by dint of my being a star myself was certainly interesting; his being able to smuggle starlight about without the need to actually go out of the city to obtain it brought enrichment to he and his friends, and I saw to it that they received a proper education.
  33.
  34. That is to say, an education in what they needed to know and how to survive such a world, not simple schooling.
  35.
  36. There's not a great deal else to say; the urchin eventually grew to adulthood and I aided him in the publication of a newspaper, while I did what I did. Research into the local flora and fauna, into Neathly things and colors, and occasionally a consulting detective when the city had need of it.
  37.
  38. And then from there, to the sea.
