  1. Gaz Lloyd, Feb 6, 9:04 PM UTC:
  2. User Gaz Lloyd reports a problem with feature "Semantic MediaWiki".
  3.
  4. URL to problem page:
  5. (many, see text)
  6.
  7. Description of issue:
  8.
  9. Following the SMW upgrade in November 2016, we've had a few issues with SMW not performing correctly. It's taken a while, but I'm now fairly confident that this isn't a front-end issue that we can solve.
  10.
  11. Properties sometimes aren't being set correctly. An example of this is on http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Crystal_tool_siphon
  12. Notice that http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Browse/Crystal_tool_siphon has nothing on it, not even categories - compare to http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Browse/Monkey_mind-control_helmet which uses the same templates ({{Infobox Item}} and {{Infobox Recipe}}) and has properties correctly defined. This means that pages that use an #ask for these properties - for example http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Crystal_parts#Devices - simply don't show the tool siphon at all.
  13.
  14. This also applies to {{Infobox Monster new}} and {{DropsLine}}: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Browse/Chaos_Giant has no properties, compared to http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Browse/Chaos_dwarf_hand_cannoneer which works correctly. Thus, #asks for this don't show Chaos Giants http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_pickaxe#Drop_sources
  15.
  16. I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, since it seems so sporadic. Seemingly random pages - http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Browse/Celestial_dragon - have no properties defined even though similar pages - http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Browse/King_Black_Dragon - are fine. (Possibly linked to interaction with scribunto/lua? If so, why aren't categories being displayed on Special:Browse?)
  17.
  18. If it helps, Infobox Item, Monster new, and Recipe all have a hidden pre tag containing the SMW data defined by the template (just above Recipe, and just below the other two). This correctly appears on all the linked pages, and can easily be seen by disabling the display:none on them in inspect element.
  19.
  20. I appreciate that our wiki has a fairly complex setup with respect to infoboxes and such, so if you need additional information or whatever to find/diagnose/fix the problem, let me know.
  21.
  22. Cheers,
  23. Gaz
