  1. I got Luigi's Mansion for Christmas in 2003 and beat it months later along with some friends. It was a great memory that I hold dearly, however one of my friends, Austin, kept insisting it would have been so much more fun had it been released on the N64 like planned and that if this initial plan gone through, there's no way my parents would have bought it for me, because it was not meant to be played by children. Now, Austin was a rather odd and quiet kid, but he when he had stuff to say, most of the time, it'd be serious matter. So, after years later, finding out that it indeed was a game planned for the N64, or at least rumored, it started to peak my curiosity more.
  2. A lot of fan theories revolve around a game like Luigi's Mansion, particularly the beta version that many fans have a strong desire to play for different reasons, but I guess mostly because the beta version is known by those who bought and or played the game during its initial release have known the beta version to be much darker by comparison and that it was going to be given a T for teens rating, which to me, honestly sounds too unheard of to be true for a game centered in the Mario universe, especially if this one was planned to be the launch title for the Nintendo gamecube. But then I wondered a little more after hearing rumors that this game was actually planned to be released on the Nintendo 64 system, but scrapped due to the lifespan of the N64 sort of... dying down in those days.
  3. I searched for weeks looking up any chance of playing a beta ROM of Luigi's Mansion and finding no luck whatsoever, I even posted a thread on reddit just because I became so obsessed wanting to try this sucker out, but still nothing. Then after a month or so I received a private message on reddit from a programmer who did coding for some company in New York, he said that he knew somebody who worked on the Americanized version of the game and from all of the astonishing beta testing that he did, he was actually given a beta copy as a reward, but it wasn't a disc for the Nintendo gamecube, it was instead a cartridge for the N64. It had no label on it and was just a plain black color. He asked me if I was at least 17 years old, which gave me a slight chill given what my friend Austin said so many years ago, I simply replied "Yes." and not a character more. He offered it to me for 49.99 us dollars, and out of my obsessed desire, I payed him not a cent less, after about a week and a half, I received the game in the mail finally. Don't worry, I'll spare you the nerdy details about how it was packaged and setting it up and all that and just jump right into the gameplay.
  4. It started with Nintendo logo popping up only in this game, it sounded like there was a crowd out in the middle of nowhere speaking. The title screen then appears outward in a horizontal manner rather than vertical like it does in the final version. Instead of the title music you would expect to play, I hear the same music that plays whenever you're playing a minigame with a ghost, like the Twins or Jarvis or Van Gore. I hit start and am taken to a file loading screen that simply says to select "Continue" or "New Game". Considering there was no original file on here, the "Continue" feature was not enabled, so of course I hit "New Game" A cut scene plays of Luigi walking up to the mansion, only he looks VERY different from the final game's version, he looks like a slightly upgraded Mario 64 sprite with more detail added in such as the nose, eyes and overalls. Crows were flying around the mansion in a slow mesmerizing disturbing manner. He opens the door with no flashlight. Instead after the cut scene finishes, Luigi pulls out the light from his cell phone (flip phone, because 90s) and walks around frantically in a circle making these disturbing grunts and groans that didn't even sound like Luigi but I it had to be him since his mouth was moving. Not knowing if this was a cut scene I move the joy stick around, and I can now control Luigi. The health meter read 100/100hp and there was a clock in the bottom right corner which had a timer on it. The foyer was instead called the Entrance. The first thing I did was what I would in the gamecube game and walk upstairs to try and open the parlor door. Instead of a ghost dropping a key, I see what looks like a ghost shoving a Toad hat up its.... don't make me say it! ASS! There! It was making these horrific sounds I could not tell if they were out of pleasure or pain, this is a ghost we're talking about after all. The scene kept looping so I hit the A button, and Luigi does his thing by yelling for Mario. The ghost reacts to this by looking over at me, rather breaking the fourth wall and letting out a ghastly yet woman like sounding scream, even though it sounded like a male ghost. It comes toward me, and because I can't run all I could do was try to stay away from it, but to no avail, as it punched me 3 times from behind until out of the parlor doors opens up the Professor E. Gadd who is equipped with the poltergeist 3000 only it looks a lot bigger, and I do mean A LOT. It has several extensions on the back of it, making it look like some kind of generating system. At this point the ghost is trying to hump Luigi's head in the cut scene! Oh, I wish I was kidding! E. Gadd nearly sucks it through, but then the ghost sucked... sucked itself through its mouth and then it vanished.... E. Gadd then explains he's glad that it killed itself so he wouldn't have to. I then hear him say the f-word with no text bubble. Just the "FUCK!" plain and simple. I couldn't believe this game so far! It was just bizarre. He takes me back to the lab to introduce me to the device and give me the training I needed to rescue Mario. Only in this version unlike the final, I was able to walk around the lab a little more. I explored to the left to find a table of dildos that were squiggly shaped, as if they were meant for the ends of ghosts? At this point, I couldn't help myself. I had to laugh. Clearly this was some sort of joke beta hack given to the tester as a tease to please kind of thing. Or it was created just to screw with me or anyone else that just so happened to be curious about the beta version of Luigi's Mansion? Either way, I had to admit I was impressed by how much trouble went into it. The right side of the lab had a wall full of ghost portraits performing anal on one another, then I climbed a latter to what nearly scared me shitless! It was a statue on top of two ghosts 69ing one another! It looked real! Like they were actually in the middle of doing it! I needed a break from all this crap! It was funny sure, but come on! I went outside to get some air, then came back to play more of this x-rated Luigi's Mansion.
  5. There was no Toad! I started my mission in the parlor like normal, but the lights were on, Luigi was whistling and everything was just fine. The one key difference however was that it was next to empty! The only thing remaining were the portraits on the wall and the fire place. I went into my gameboy horror mode and shined on the portraits to see if they'd speak or if Luigi had something to say, and the answer was both. Each one said the same thing.... "you're fucked." to which Luigi's text screen replied "AHHHH!". There was nothing more to explore in this room it seemed, so I proceeded into the anteroom and was met with a most unfortunate and beyond terrifying and annoying, but mostly annoying surprise. There was just about every ghost I could imagine from the game spooking Luigi and attacking him all at once. You name it, gold ghosts, purple punchers, blue twirlers, garbage can ghosts, grabbers of all different colors, among some others. The room was sealed and like I said, they were all around me, so I couldn't suck even three of them up at once without 10 of the others attacking me all around. I eventually was killed and had to start over in this forsaken room again. Being as there was no Toad for me to save with, I thought I'd go all the way back to the start, but I guess it autosaved after each room was cleared so that was nice! It sure was nothing like how it turned out to be, it was probably the most simple room from the whole game, but in this it was just a nightmare. My next attempt however, I was met with a different surprise, slightly less harmful but annoying nonetheless. I was bombarded by poisonous mushrooms from every angle this time! And they kept coming more and more, to an endless extent. Luigi remained tiny due to this endless supply that was impossible to avoid with both doors sealed like before. What could one do? Well, I had no choice but to quit and start over, but this next time those pesky ghosts all came back to assault me again! This time it seemed like there was even more! After a while, I figured out that it was a pattern going back and forth with these two awful things every time I died or quit, it wouldn't end. Then I realized there WAS in fact something I missed in the parlor, it was a mouse hole that I shined on with my gb horror and it brought me to the Wardrobe where there was nothing but a simple gold ghost waiting for me, already spawned in advance. I sucked it up and the lights came back on to reveal a chest I opened and retrieved a red key with horns atop it that led to where Neville's room would be, but I guess it hadn't been made yet, as it was just another room with the lights on like the parlor, only this one just had a lone fire place in it, but there was something written on the wall above. I got closer to see what it said, and not too surprisingly it said, "you're so fucked!" much like what happened earlier, only Luigi didn't respond in text box, he instead shrieked aloud and left the room without my control! I tried to re-enter but then Luigi broke a fourth wall like I'd never imagine. He looked at me and said "Noooo!" Seeing as how that wasn't gonna happen I tried to enter the master bedroom in hopes that I did not need a key for it after all. Thankfully I didn't. But oh, boy! At that point, I wished I did! And never could find it! Because this next part is just fucked up beyond words! I found Neville alright! Neville with Lydia! Neville going down on Lydia ghost style! I can't explain just how it was done! It was not how two humans would do it that's for sure! I boldly approached Neville who actually showed his heart to me after yawning like you would think from the one we all know, only some text appeared from Lydia saying, "Ugh! Not again! You're too old and tired for this! I need someone younger! Much much younger and more built!" He was then vulnerable for me to suck up, since he was unsuccessful in blowing down! It wasn't hard to beat him, I thought to myself. Ironically enough, Lydia spoke again saying, "He hasn't been hard in years, and trying to beat him off is pointless." I got chills. Guess I'm just not the type to find ghost sex very arousing. I tried opening the curtains to let in the wind, thinking like how you would from the final game, but no such luck as they would not slide open at all. I figured that I needed to stop thinking like how I would in the finalized game, and figure some other options out. Lydia still had her legs open, nothing there but a ghost tail mind you, at least I'm pretty sure it's just a tail. I just straight up tried to suck her up, but nothing, then I hit the L button (Not trigger, as you remember it's an N64 controller) and..... yes. Surely you've figured it out by now. Yup. She was moaning. REALLY LOUD MOANING. I was in shock, that I slowly released the L button, and then she grew irritated at me stopping to which then her heart showed up. I successfully sucked her up in one try. Gosh! So many double meanings here! After getting the key to Chauncey's room, I was terrified at what I might see next... Upon leaving the room back into the hallway there was no crying cut scene, so I just walked over and instead the door opened by itself! Which freaked Luigi out... and myself. I entered, and things looked normal for the most part, but I couldn't help but wonder why the game would give me a key if the door was going to open anyway? I then discovered that I had to open the crib with this key. As it was no ordinary crib, it was sealed from the top, and Chauncey could be heard crying very realistically! It sounded like actual crying from a real baby! It sounded like they took a raw recording from an old camcorder from someone's dusty old home movie collection. It was beyond creepy, disturbing and unnerving. I unlocked the sealed door, and beyond my control, Luigi was holding Chauncey and cradling him! He was shhhing and humming softly to him to calm him down. I was half touched and half creeped. However, what seemed like a surprisingly precious moment from this messed up adventure, turned darker than ever as Chauncey began to growl! His head morphed into an odd shape and his expression was demonic looking. His head then got bigger, while his little body remained the same. Luigi was then locked in and had to fight a possessed giant headed Chauncey with not 100, but 150 hp! I had no idea what to do, so instinctively I just did what I was doing before and thought like how to win from the finished product! I hit him with the ball and to my surprise, it worked! The head got smaller! I kept this up after dodging many rocking horses, teddy bears and flaming fire balls shot from a demonic Chauncey's mouth! As he was about to get sucked inside of the Poltergeist, it was extremely uncomfortable, as I watched him struggle trying to break free of the suction cycle pulling him in. Even more so, before the room was light again, I heard more of that real life baby audio, only it was echoing and slowly trailing off. Area 1 was complete and the portraits all looked as how they would at a gold rank like in the final game. So, it was onto area 2! All of the hallway ghosts were worth noting as mostly what are called bashers! They're the ones that stun Luigi and make him crawl back out of your control for a brief amount of time, and I could not figure out how to beat them, but it seemed they would only scare you if you stood still. So, I kept moving as much as I could and reached the bathroom but there was nothing in there. There were no ghosts at all, as the lights were all on, but there was plenty of treasure to get so I went for it. So, I decided to try the washroom before heading into the ballroom, and it was the same result. The lights were on and there was no Toad at all. There was a key in the toilet like the final game however, so after getting this key which indicated unlocking the fortune teller's room, I really didn't care. I did stop by the ballroom because I did need to after all. But what was inside were not dancing shy guy ghosts, but instead dancing goomba ghosts that with mechanical gas masks on that made truck noises... almost like the sound of trucks shorting out of battery. As I approached one, a text box appeared from it saying, "!!!!!!!!!!" to the sound of another odd truck noise. I didn't see what the point of it was, but I sure found it disturbing. It then started to blow fire at me! As they all did! So much fire that I had to walk a good distance away, and wait for them to turn around before coming back, as it seemed like that was the strategy here! I did not need to suck up their masks, but instead blow them off from behind, using L. This did take a while, probably a good 26 minutes or so. There were about 13 of them. So probably 2 minutes for each. I awaited what ghost would appear in place of the dancing couple, but instead it was far from a dancing couple in an old fashion setting! It instead was a male ghost, that was possibly an early version of Biff Atlas, the weight lifting ghost, having butt sex with a female ghost to this typical porno beat! I was appalled at this sickening act! No, it was not hot! It was just weird, unless you're into that sort of thing! The sound of the buff looking ghost going in and out of the female kept making this corny cartoon sound effect which is actually the same sound effect used for when Biff Atlas is lifting his weight bar up in the air from the final game. I scanned their hearts and both of them say, "Yeah, now that's what I call Ghost Busters!" Thinking back to Lydia, I decided to try the blowing feature on my vacuum, because why not? And it just got freakier than I could've thought! I knew something might happen, but good lord! She was enjoying my "services" just like Lydia! And this made the macho looking ghost very annoyed! He started swinging his fists at me really fast almost the same manner that Biff does, but this ghost's face looked a lot more furious and demonic! He looked like he could've crushed Luigi into a pile of blood! The female ghost was nowhere to be found. Out of panic, I pushed L on the furious attacking ghost and looked away, believing I was going to die, but nope! This game is dirrrrty! The macho ghost liked it! He put his hands behind his back and got down on the floor and started laughing like an absolute lunatic! But thankfully, his heart was showing (thank god nothing else was!) and I could suck.... you know. I got him! But still the question of the female ghost! Where did she get to? Well, within seconds after my victory, a cut scene played of her shooting herself! So... I guess that took care of that! Boy, this game sure wanted its M rating regardless of there being no label on the cartridge. I thought Conker's Bad Fur Day was the most crass video game on the N64 I'd ever play, but this twisted adult Mario game just couldn't be beat! Nope! Well, "I guess it's time to go and release the boos", I thought to myself. But obviously I didn't know what to think at this point. Much to mine and your disappointment if you've been reading with interest this far, there were no boos! There was no storage room. Just wall. Empty. Nothing to see or unlock here. The boos were scrapped from the game. Well, geez. No toads? No boos? Perhaps no Bowzer at the end either? This just didn't feel like much of a Mario game hardly at all! But it did have Luigi and as far as I knew I was still going to rescue Mario. I mean that's what Professor E. Gadd has mentioned like how he would in the final, so surely all of that is as it should.
  6. Instead of a key to the storage room, I get a key to unlock the stairway to the basement, which mind you was never locked in the final game, so I wondered what would possibly await me down there. Well, it wasn't anything too exciting, just bats! Lots of bats! About as many bats, as there were ghosts attacking me from every angle like in the anteroom from area 1! Thankfully, they were not that hard to beat since I could just suck them all up simple as that! But they still took a lot of hp from me! I was down to 45! Luigi now looked terrified in his expression as I tried to find health the best that I could. I hit A just for some amusement to hear him call out for Mario, but it was not like the final game's voice at all! It sounded as if they had Charles Martinet (the voice actor of Mario characters) crying into an extremely small microphone. It sounded narrow and terrifying like Luigi felt as if he was going to have a heart attack! I tried every pot, drawer and closet I could find, which plenty gave me money but nothing would give me health! I proceeded to the fortune teller's room in hopes to find some hearts in there, but still nothing! I shined the light on the pearl to reveal Madam "Clarence" as her name was in this game. She restored my health to full out of kindness, which was really nice! She told me about the five items of Mario I need to retrieve and a bonus item, she said that she needed for herself in return to fortune telling all about these items for Luigi. It definitely seemed odd. I always never had the best feeling about her to begin with really. Well, I proceeded to the mirror room seeing as how my health was up now, but oh man! Was it horrible! Blue grabbers in every direction! I must've died about 35 times in a row! Unlike the first time, I NEEDED to clear this room to keep going! But how? After talking with Madam Clarence again, she in fact gave me the fire element and advised me to use a supply of fire whenever I felt surrounded! I managed to burn every one of the blue grabbers in the mirror room who trembled at the fire as if they were actually melting! But they're ghosts, how? It was extremely morbid! All of their faces were melting off in a grotesque manner until they were all reduced to floating skulls with eyes bulging out the socket holes! It was a terrifying site, but within seconds they all dropped to the ground and the lights came on, leaving all but their skulls disintergrating into the floor with a faint, low but echoey sound of screaming monster despair after the little jingle that plays when a room turns light. It was really unnerving. Alright, yes I'm well aware you could've probably come up with a drinking game from all of these words I'm using to describe the game over and over, but I just don't know how else to put it! A chest full of money popped up and it was a lot! Blue, green, red, purple, light green, yellow and white diamonds by the masses! Coins dollar bills and gold bars everywhere! I went on to find what I’d hope to be the watered down version of the Butler ghost Mr. Shivers, but there was nothing in the hallway except mice and occasional basher ghosts! I went down to the other side of the hallway to the very end and there was no laundry room! It instead was a window that I looked through via the Gameboy horror and saw something beyond disturbing… it was a giant Mario’s head being pulled by a blimp driven by a goomba. I scanned it with the Gameboy horror and Luigi says “M…mmm… Mario?” When I returned to game mode, a flash of lightening struck and I could see Luigi’s shadow hanging himself much like you do when you reach the telephone room! That was too freaky! Well, no boos, no butler, I figured there had to be a Melody in that music room so I went for it. There was no Melody but instead a ghost by the name of Harmony! Right as I entered a cut scene played with a loud shrieking scream! He was flying around the room picking up the instruments as they played by themselves and tossing them at me very violently! I would have scanned his heart to see what he'd say but it was impossible! It was so startling I couldn’t figure out what to do so I left the room, and could still hear his echoing shrieks of evil from the hallway. Reentering, I thought of trying to pick one up myself, which was indeed the case! I picked up the harp and tossed it at him (hard to believe Luigi was that strong), but I missed and the harp fell into pieces and could no longer be used, so then I went for the trombone and I got him! His health was exposed! I began to suck him up but was ambushed by none other than that famous haunting hungry piano! That’s right! The same piano from the boo mansion in Mario 64! It was becoming more and more difficult to beat this ghost, but I finally managed to suck him up, the piano however would not stop! Even with the lights now on, you’d best stay away from that piano unless you have a death wish because it wasn’t going anywhere! When I got a distance away I could hear it growling at me! I left the room and came back in to see if it’d stop, nope. It kept growling on. I scanned it with the Gameboy horror and it said “Fuck off!” much like in Neville’s room! I got the key and got out of there! I walked down the hall slowly and with deep disturbia running through my knuckles on the controller as I wondered just how this watered down version of Mr. Luggs was going to be. If you thought he was a disturbing enough ghost, well if you saw this version you might shit a weeks’ worth! Mr. Luggs was ginormous! He was so morbidly obese, his head almost touched the ceiling! He had glasses on and a shirt that didn’t come down all the way revealing a big and bloated belly on the table. He was eating some kind of slop by jamming it into his mouth with two hands scooping it up per bite. I scanned his heart and he said this: "After this helping, I'd love something Italian! You'll do just fine!" Yikes! But after that a flash close-up revealed his portrait on the screen with a caption reading: "You're going to hell inside of me!" Mr. Luggs had devil horns in the portrait and the backdrop was completely blood red! It will haunt me forever! Much like this whole game! After lighting the candles, I was able to suck up some of the food from his plate, and then the butler ghosts came to bring in some more, but I was too fast for them. He realized the plate was now empty and shrieked a loud angered roar that made the butlers flee and the whole mansion shake causing Luigi to fall on his butt. Mr. Luggs was so mad he did more than just projectile fire balls at me! He tried to assault me with his belly by flying toward me and flinging it at me! It seemed like too much for me at first so I left the room into the hallway (as I wasn’t sure what awaited me in the kitchen), still hearing his sounds of angered fury. But they never stopped like how he would run out of breath in the final release, so I knew that there must be something I have to do. I tried to launch a fire ball at him by tapping the L button really fast and this blinded his vision before coming at me again, making him vulnerable to suck up! It was quite morbid watching his eyes turn red and slightly drip to the side, I couldn't help but be hypnotized by the gritty and gorey graphics for a little while, but I snapped to and got to work! He took quite a while to get but I got him finally and the lights came back on. I opened the chest and instead of money like in the final game, it was a key to the next room. Yes, to my surprise the kitchen was locked and I could now open it. That means he was not an optional ghost in this game.
  7. The next room, unlike the kitchen we know, had another portrait ghost! His name was Chef BarnaBowl and he had this to say when examining him, "I never make enough money to constantly be feeding that Lugg in there! I wish someone or something would just suck all the life out of him already!" I did laugh from that, but it was only after this, he started moving around and throwing pots and pans all over the place and grumbling weird grumpy gibberish. He didn't seem to even notice me, but if I dare got in the way, I would be hurt pretty badly! As he took away 30hp each hit! So, I went way off to the other side of the room and found a candle to light. In doing so, however the whole table caught fire! This triggered him to panic and scream out, "No, not again! This is why I need insurance!" He was now visible and ready to be sucked in (Boy, it's been a while since anything sexual has happened and I'm glad!). He took a while for me to get. I got him down to 40hp but then he got away and put the fire out with a GIANT fire extinguisher and vanished. I tried to light the candles again, but they were gone, so then I tried lighting the whole room on fire but nothing happened, so I exited and came back in. It all re-spawned back to normal and I lit the same candles, sucked him in finally and the room was brightened, but ruined mind you! As almost the entire kitchen was burnt to a crisp, thanks to me! Well, I had to do it. I got the water element which fell to the ground the moment he was sucked into the vacuum and the room lit up, almost as if it was in his pocket. What would a chef want with a water element? Anyway, after getting the element, I wondered what they would have put in the chest instead, but it was only the key to the backyard, so I guess they thought it would be cooler to have the door on fire and make you put it out rather than an epic chef ghost battle? Thanks Nintendo for keeping it interesting.
  8. Anyway, outside where you'd expect the guard dog, instead was a guard wolf! It was 3 times Luigi's size! And was not easy to find either! I walked up to the dog house and there was nothing there! The wolf then attacked me from out of nowhere pouncing on Luigi and mauling him violently! I rotated the control as fast as possible! Luigi was down to 35hp and whimpering loudly, almost hysterically! The wolf was back in the far right corner of the yard growling slowly and progressively getting louder. I had no clue what I could do, so I examined the wolf on the gb horror and it said nothing! Instead it growled even louder! I tried to examine again and then it stood up and looked right at me in the gb horror! I stupidly examined it again and then it started to charge me! I tried to open the door back into the kitchen but it was way too fast for me! It began to maul me again but then a cut scene played of a strike of lightening hitting him right in the head! He was now ready to be sucked in and despite my health being down to 24hp I was ready! He actually didn't put up much of a fight. I got him in on one try no problem. I guess that lightening really knocked out everything in him. Makes sense. I had to take a break and breathe some more before entering the graveyard and dare battling whatever was awaiting me there!
  9. After getting a breather in, I entered and the boss battle was all set! I didn't need to battle any bone heads. Bogmire was already there, I just had to walk up to him first. Before that I made sure to check the grave stones for hearts but there were none, of course! "Fuck it!" I said. I walked up to him and the first thing that happened was him letting out a big furious hiss at me then he grew eight times my size! I was transported to the battle arena you'd expect to fight him in and it was mostly the same except all of the shadows and Bogmire were much much much much much MUCH bigger! I couldn't even make out their heads at some camera angles. They took much longer to pull into the vacuum. I died many times, as you might expect. Still, I wouldn't give up! I was able to get him eventually but when I got down below 50hp, the ground opened up and I fell into a deep abyss of black terror and had to try again. This time being more ready for it, I stayed to the side the best that I could, as it did not open up quite all the way. Once he was down to 50hp and the ground opened again, this time I was off to the end barely hanging on. Then the creepiest part of the whole game thus far took place! His face came out of the abyss and tried to eat me! Before I knew it I was in his mouth but he spit me back out thankfully! I was now down to 6hp. I felt like a goner but then I realized I had a source of fire from a torch in each corner. I probably would have noticed sooner if the elements spawned before the battled started just like they did when you're about to fight Boolossus. It became clear that he hated fire, like Frankenstein. He screamed as I lit him up and actually, I just beat him by burning him to death at that point. The battle was over.
  10. Well, after collecting all of these bizarre portrait ghosts back into their original habitats, it was off to area 3. In entering the courtyard, I was met with several unnamed exploding ghosts going off one after the next. It was almost like they were self destructing machines. I walked as fast as I possibly could, but still took damage of 10hp each time, and was eventually reduced to 60hp. I had reached the well at this point and what awaited me down there, was far from what you'd expect in having played the gamecube version. It was a bunch of morbid looking monsters playing with the body parts of Mario. Luigi let out a gut twisting scream of terror, as almost did I as well! Then a call came in from Professor E. Gadd. He assured Luigi that there is some kind of chemical down in the well that makes you see things that aren't there. Some ghost known as the "gas can" is the known culprit for this. "In fact, I think he's right behind you! Be careful, Luigi!" Sure enough there was indeed a green ghost that had fumes and odors around it. It was basically the same ghost you'd encounter in the well from the gamecube version, but instead with the details mentioned above. I simply had to stun it with my flashlight and sucked it up no problem. Then appears Mario's hat as my reward. I was beginning to wonder when that would appear since there wasn't a laundry room. When the light turned on in the well, I walked back over to see what was at the end this time now that the "gas can" ghost had been taken care of. But there was nothing there.... It was just a wall. Then I heard something slowly getting louder. It was a bunch of muffled whispering voices slowly assaulting my speakers. I didn't what to do or where it was coming from, but it was driving me nuts so I left but then decided to go back down again and see if it had stopped which it did. Nothing but silence now. I left and went back down again, still nothing. "What was the point of all that? Surely, it's a sign of something" I thought. I proceeded through the courtyard and did not bother with anything around me, I just went for the bird house to get Mario's letter which was there no problem. Seemed kind of poor that they had those first two items so close together but whatever. Now it was on to the rec room. Instead of the familiar Biff Atlas, he was a much larger muscular beast! Scanning his heart he said this: "Get that shit away from me you little meatball!" Well, it was now or never, so I punched the punching bag in his direction and oh man! Was he mad alright! He started growling and slowly got louder and louder, his skin turned blood red and he grew horns and then within seconds he transformed into a bull! Biff was now a bull! This bull began to charge at me and knocked a bunch of equipment on the wall beside me down crashing. I attempted another punching bag at him and sure enough his horns were stuck in the punching bag and was now vulnerable to suck up. It must have taken a good 6 tries in a row to finally suck him up, but I got him and was now down to 40hp. Trying to find health in this mansion was like trying to find a hospital in an apocalyptic wasteland. I got this ice element now though, there was nothing very different about the room worth mentioning. A few different ghosts than how it should have been, but that was it. With this in hand, I tried it on what would be Miss Petunia in the final game, but instead was in fact a naked hippo. Very cartoony looking at that. I launched the ice and sucked her up no problem. I went to Nana's room and she looked pretty normal except for one key detail: Her head was missing! Dear God! After scattering the yarn balls in the room her head came out of nowhere and started launching fire out her mouth at me which took 20hp away! Now I was in fact down to 20hp so if I got hit one more time that was it! Hitting her for the third time, I could see that I had to first suck up the body, then the head! This was one twisted nightmare! Once it was all over finally I needed to rest myself. I later remembered that Madam Clarence healed me at the beginning, so I went back with my two items found to see what she'd tell me and hopefully would heal me. She did thankfully! Full health! I just needed to come back to her for health. At least until I had to get rid of her that is. She basically said the same dialogue as we know her to say, except that with Mario's hat, instead of "It's as if somebody just washed it!" she says, "Pew, my goodness, someone really ought to wash it!". But there was still the questioning of that one bonus item she mentioned I would need. Before catching the next two ghosts, I went to the observatory room to get the star, to my surprise the ghosts had already spawned without me lighting the candles. There were goomba shots, gold shots, purple punchers, garbage can ghosts, red grabber ghosts and blue twirlers all at once! After taking them all out with much trial and error I was now down to 50hp. Still, I proceeded to get the star. After launching a ball toward the moon a bridge appeared similar in graphic design to that of rainbow road in Mario Kart 64. I got the star on the other side of it, but then the sound of an earthquake started as I was walking back, the bridge was now collapsing! I ran for the other side as fast as I could and thankfully didn't fall down into that nothing abyss! I could only imagine.... There was nothing that different about the pool shark Slim Bankshot. He looked slightly less detailed, but he had an eye patch on. That was really the only difference. The Cinema room had a "family reunion" of grabber ghosts of all colors, including different ones like: Yellow, Dark Green and Gray! All of which took damage from me, except the white ones of course. I must have died at least 10 times, because it just wasn't possible to get more than three without taking damage from the others or being drug around the room like crazy! I needed fire! Or some kind of element! Fire will do! This helped, and I cleared the room, but still took some damage leaving me only at 40hp again. I got Mario's shoe and gave it to Madam Clarence. It was on to the twins' room! Only there were no twins! This ghost was different. This ghost seemed like a downgraded version of Sue Pea, the ghost you would encounter on Area 4. She was sleeping on a single bed surrounded by toys, so many toys! Scanning her heart, she said: "It's mine! All MIIIIIINE!" This had me curious to learn more about this ghost. I attempted to return to the Study where I thought I could read more about this her, but Luigi still would not allow himself to be taken in there like just like in Area 1. He simply refused to go in there ever again. It was almost as if there are books in there not meant to be read, and Luigi could feel if he did attempt to read one, he wouldn't come back out of the room alive. Strange. Extremely. Well, enough was enough. It was time to vacuum this spoiled ghost girl up. All I had to do was knock over her pile of stuffed animals with my vacuum and suck them up. I was interrupted with her angry text shouting: "Heeeeey, stop it!", but I kept going. The text appeared again. "Heeeeeyyyyy, stop that!", I kept on. Then the panic music started and she awoke in a fury and began to launch ice at me! She was flying and launching ice at me! The doors were sealed. This was not going to be easy by a long shot I thought. But then out of impulse, I kept sucking up more toys, which further angered her, making her shake her fists and cock her head back and throw a tantrum. This had her heart vulnerable! She could now be sucked up. Thank God! I thought I was in for some Exorcist shit! Her pull was surprisingly weak! I guess upsetting her really brought down her powerful hold. In a weird way, I felt bad when it was all over. Much like some other ghosts earlier, I could hear her faint screams of anger, terror and torment echo throughout the room, now lit up. I am still speechless about it to this day...
  11. After retrieving Mario's shoe to Madam Clarence she informs me that this Bonus item is the most important of them all! Well, I searched every nook and cranny from the first 2 floors but no luck. I figured it must be in Safari Room which I had no idea was not locked. If you remember, the rumors of the Safari ghost, well a Hunter like ghost was there, but it looked far more menacing than you would've thought him to be. This ghost indeed seemed like a fitting Australian hunter that could've made it into the game, but his expression was just too furious looking. Scanning his heart, he said: "I hate the afterlife! I've never felt so unfulfilled. Hey, plumber boy. If you dare touch those bucks on the wall, your head's the next one going on there!" This was terrifying.... As I got closer to him he kicked me over with his ghost tail! I took 10hp and was down to 90 since thankfully Madam Clarence had healed me earlier. As I shook the mantle that the heads were mounted on, he grunted at me very loud. It got louder and louder until finally he pulled out a knife and started slashing around really fast. An Ice element ghost then spawned out of nowhere. Luckily , I did think to get ice before entering the room so I attempted to get rid of him first. The hunter then shrieked! "Noooo! He was the only one! The closest thing I had to a friend!" The Hunter was ready to be vacuumed in now. His pull was unbelievably strong. It took me seven tries to get him finally. I guess despite the depression of me taking his "friend" away, he still would resist the thought of being turned back into a painting. Well, that was that.
  12. There it was! In the chest was the bonus item! It was a bag of something. I returned it to Madam Clarence and she said to meet her on the Balcony of the third floor. The room then lit up and she disappeared. A key appeared that would open up the door to the Balcony on the third floor to meet her at. When walking all the way up stairs, I felt a feeling of unsettlement and sadness go through me. I totally had the instinct that Madam Clarence was evil and if there were no boos and she wanted to meet me on the balcony, it could only mean just that, likely! When I reached the floor, I saw her in the center looking much larger than before! "Do you know why you do what you do? Do you know why you were chosen to be here? If not, you need to open your eyes, my mortal." She then reveals what was in the bag: It was the head of Princess Peach! Luigi shrieked! "If he, your brother is to find out about this, he will surely be driven to suicide! But if you procrastinate much longer he will be killed anyway." I then remembered as she said that, my clock was down to 2 hours left in the day. I was totally stumped and not sure what I could do at this point! "What'll it be Luigi?" an option box then appears: "Give up", "Keep going" or "Who are you and why are you doing this?" I tried the second option first and she said: "Now, do you really believe that's going to pay off? I'll ask you again, Luigi. What'll it be?" I tried to "give up" but she then said: "Oh, Luigi. I know you are not the kind to do such a thing. I'll ask you one more time, what'll it be?" I went with option number 3 and she said: "..... I AM the mansion." she then giggles and disappears. The head of Peach sits in the center where Madam Clarence was. I walk up to touch it, like you would a key or any other item, and as Luigi picks it up he screams in terror instead of the peace animation, accompanied by a horrific organ sound playing. I then get a call from Professor E. Gadd who claims that because Luigi only has one hour left, the mansion will start to crumble. He claimed his brother was a goner at this point. He asked "What are you going to do Luigi?" With dramatic silence, the wind blowing harder now and overwhelming terror within the pupils of Luigi's eyes, he threw the head of Princess Peach off the balcony and ran out of the mansion as fast as he could. Professor E. Gadd watched in awe as he fleed out the front gate, with a saddened frown on his face, knowing he would never return and that it was all over for his brother. Then E. Gadd spotted the head lying in the ground. With a look of astonished shock, he said: "Bless your soul, Luigi. You protected your brother whether he knows it or not." The poltergeist was thrown off Luigi's back at the front of the gate. E. Gadd slowly picks it up and returns to his lab. The screen slowly fades out.

  14. The game then ended with two side by side gravestones. One reading: RIP: Mario Mario: 1943-2000 and the other reading: RIP: Luigi Mario: 1951-????. Then the game fades out to a still image of Luigi with the poltergeist on his back looking pissed at the camera then it slowly fades out once again into nothing more than some text reading: "Good Night!", but then the exclamation point slowly disappears and instead, a question mark slowly appears in its place.
  15.
  16. "Good Night?"
  17.
  18. The game was done.
