  2. When Beryl settled next to her on the bed, an arm around her, a little tremor shot through her, an involuntary flinch. The first time someone had touched her in months, most likely. "...They were stupid for voting him in, anyway," she said, trying to sound nonplussed by it. At the mention of her scar, her right arm gave a little spasm, but Cari seemed to ignore it. "The Chinese--they made it here first. They rounded up as much of the survivors as they could, and when some of them got all violent and revolutionary, one of them opened fire." She swallowed past a lump in her throat. "I was..lucky. Just got my shoulder. My parents, though...dead. A dozen people, and Mom and Dad, dead, like that. Maybe they were the lucky ones..." She trailed off, her eyes staring down at the floor barely more than a few inches below her face, yet they seemed to be looking far, far away.

  5. "He may be my commander in chief, but he's a complete moron who ignored all advice including that of the best military analysts in the country and my team. Everyone said to evacuate at least the coastal states, but no, he knew better, we'd have them beaten within the week," she says wrapping her arm around the girl. "I'm sorry your parents had to pay for my boss' idiocy. and how'd you get that scar?" she asks

  8. The girl kept stealing glances towards whatever panties or underwear the woman might be wearing, trying to hide it behind her hair, or in the guise of following the movement with her eyes. Her cheeks were still a soft pink as Beryl came closer, the girl practically eye-level with the soldier's hips. "...Y-yeah. Everyone thought it was impossible," she replied after a few seconds, the time it took the hormonal teen in her distracted state to register she'd been asked a question. As her thoughts shifted back towards the occupation of the Western States, though, her hand reflexively reached up to her right shoulder, where her scar was. Nerve damage still occasionally sent fiery tendrils of pain all the way down to her fingers, but she'd grown used to the sensation and the slightly limited range of motion of her shoulder, at least. "When they started evacuating, my parents refused to believe it was happening. The President had said they were going to be safe, and they preferred the President's word to the news."

  11. Beryl finally finished wrapping the wound and then took her pack and vest off and walked over to the bed carrying her pants but not putting them on. "Hard to believe isn't it? Never thought I'd be deployed domestically," she said as she set her weapon next to the bed

  14. Cari had been staring at her own fingers, fidgetting as they were with the sleeves of her sweatshirt, when she heard the belt come off. Instinctively, she looked up, just in time to see Beryl slide her pants down; her cheeks lit up pink immediately, a color that darkened particularly as the officer commented in a suggestive tone. Put on the spot, the girl felt her hips wiggling from side to side, her thighs pressing and rubbing together a little. "...M-maybe that is how I meant it," the raven-haired teen replied, trying to sound coy, but just sounding nervous, instead, betraying her inexperience with the subject, particularly as concerned the same sex.

  17. She had done all she could as she was so she undid her belt and slid her pants off to inspect, pack, and dress the wound. "I will take you up on the offer of the bed, and company if that's how you meant it." she said in a suggestive tone. "But I won't take the fire side, this is your home and I am used to dealing with the elements." she said as she dug around in the wound for bits of fabric.

  20. A sigh escaped her, along with any hope of an immediate rescue; the winter storm brewing up outside would ground any air traffic that wasn't above cloud level, and make the mountains impassable for days. "I don't mind, n-not at all!" she stammered. "It's been so long since I've had anyone to keep me company...my name's, er--Carissa Bates, but you can call me Cari." She felt like she was tripping over her own tongue, but it wasn't every day that a pretty woman in uniform collapsed on your floor with a hole in her leg. "You can stay as long as you need, really--there's only the one bed, but I don't mind sharing. You can even have the side closest to the fire." Cari offered her a sheepish smile.

  23. "Sadly not. I'm the last of my squad, the rest were killed in the ambush I'm sure you just heard. I'm Master Chief Petty Officer Beryl Aternus of the Navy DEVGRU, you would know it as SEAL team six." she said as she began dressing the wound. "Would you be willing to let me stay for a while? I can provide you protection and supplies, even a weapon from the drop that will be coming tomorrow."

  26. She tucked her hair back behind her ears, reaching to open the kit, but she paused when Beryl spoke. "O-oh--of course, ma'am; are...are there any more soldiers coming? Friendly ones?" she asked hesitantly, shifting to sit back on the edge of the mattress, drawing her knees up to her chest. She was a small, slender teen by the looks of her; she wore a pair of tight black leggings that clung to her shapely legs, and a red sweatshirt that hung loosely on her, though both were torn and frayed in spots, exposing patches of pale skin on her thighs, and one on her right shoulder, where an angry scar from a bullet that had grazed her peeked out.

  29. "Yes. I apologize for barging in like this but I needed to get off the street before any opfor saw me. I can take care of the wound if you allow me to stay for a while." she told the young woman as she got up and looked out the door before closing it.

  32. The hut itself was well hidden; set at the end of a dead-end alley where three apartment buildings met, and hidden from line-of-sight at the other end by piles of rubble from the surrounding buildings. By the time Beryl got there, Carissa had found what little courage she still had, and already had a fire burning inside, the smoke vented through a small hinged metal hatch on one side of the makeshift shelter. Thankfully for Beryl, the floor was covered in half-burned and tattered rugs (save for a pothole she used for the firepit, positioned just below the opened hatch on the wall), cushioning her fall against what would have otherwise been solid asphault. For Carissa, however, it was a moment of terror; a woman in a military uniform and carrying a machine gun had just burst in, only to collapse, bleeding, on her floor. For a heartbeat, she did nothing but stare at Beryl, her heart pounding in her throat, it felt like, before she realized that the soldier was clearly American. "Oh god..." Carissa breathed, seeing the wound in the woman's leg; her hands shook, and her stomach churned at the sight of blood, but she didn't hesitate to grab her first aid kit and kneel beside the woman. "A-are--are you still awake?" she croaked, while trembling, pale hands untied Beryl's boot and gently tugged it off, not wanting to cause any undue pain.

  35. Navy DEVGRU Alpha Team, better known as SEAL Team Six, stood at the back of the C-130 preparing for a HALO jump, on American soil. the unimaginable had happened, a foreign power had successfully invaded the Continental United States. Nobody said a word, the silence emphasizing the solemnity of the assignment. They had been tasked with dropping behind enemy lines and support an insurgency in Seattle. They were dropping tonight and the guns, ammunition, and other supplies would be dropped in tomorrow. The light went from red to green and they all jumped out of the aircraft hurtling toward the ground from thirty thousand feet. At 3,000 feet she pulls the cord to deploy her chute and soon hits the ground and rolls, quickly repacking her parachute into the bag and and setting up a perimeter for the others. The team quickly made their way into the city meating surprisingly little resistance until the whole street around them lit up with gunfire, an ambush. She immediately began laying down suppressing fire with her m249. She made her way to a nearby alley and eliminated the last hostile only to realize that she was alone, and wounded, she had taken a round to the leg and not even notices. It had passed cleanly through put as the adrenaline wore off it was starting to hurt like hell. She limped to the other end of the alley where she found a set of footprints leading to a shack. Being careful to erase both her own and the other's footprints she limped to the makeshift hut and stumbled through the door and collapsed on the floor.

  38. The day had started out good enough; bundled up in her oversized coat and fleece-lined boots she'd scavenged, young Carissa had made her way to a dollar store half-buried by the rubble of a high-rise apartment building, and made out with a backpack full of canned food and frozen bottles of water, and a duffelbag stuffed with extra blankets and fresh clothes. Shortly after leaving, however, it had started to snow, and the wind began to pick up--and through the howling wind, she heard the distinct, all too familiar sound of gunfire. The sound had briefly thrown her mind back to the initial invasion of the city--but the continued retorts of automatic weapons fire drove her out of her traumatic memories and into a dead sprint. How she made her way back home through the tears in her eyes, she'd never quite remember, but soon she was ducking into the entrance of her shack, kicking off her snow-covered boots, and practically diving into the veritable next of blankets that covered the queen-sized mattress inside, as if hiding under the covers could help her...particularly once she realized that in her fear-fueled haste, she'd forgotten to disguise her tracks through the snow. Carissa's heart sank in her chest as she realized that she might've just lead someone right to her shack--someone armed and dangerous, and all she had was a folding pocket knife.
