  1. Pocket Gaiden 2 FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What is this game?
  4. A: This is Pocket Gaiden 2, a romhack that just came out on August 11th and was created by Ocean for the Relic Castle Game Jam 6. See here for more information about Game Jam: https://reliccastle.com/threads/2568/
  5.
  6. Q: Is it related to Pocket Gaiden?
  7. A: Yes, and no. It's not a direct sequel with the same characters, but is made by the same creator, is a short hack and has some interesting, challenging mechanics which made it fun to route.
  8.
  9. Q: Are you playing on emulator?
  10. A: Yes, on Bizhawk which uses an mGBA core, so pretty much mGBA.
  11.
  12. Q: What Pokemon do you use in the run?
  13. A: I will be manipulating the Wailmer that you start with, as well as picking up a free Cubchoo and catching a Zubat which is traded for a Cottonee (Bomba).
  14.
  15. Wailmer has a Quiet (+SpA, -Spe) nature, Hidden Power Electric, and has IVs of 28 HP, 29 Att, 28 Def, 23 SpA, 13 SpD, and 20 Spe. The SpA could be better, but Electric Hidden Power is super key for the run so that makes this specific Wailmer very good to have.
  16. Cubchoo will be used as fodder.
  17. Cottonee is useful because it has Prankster, Leech Seed and Stun Spore. This will be useful to assist on a couple of the late game fights.
  18.
  19. Q: Why are you fighting so many optional trainers?
  20. A: There are only 16 mandatory fights and if you just fought those, you'd be massively underlevelled. I am working on rerouting to remove some of the optional fights but you'll still need to fight 18-20 of them.
  21.
  22. Q: So much grinding...is there really nothing better than the Wailmer?
  23. A: There are some decent pokes that you can catch, but for the purposes of going fast in a speedrun, Wailmer really is the best thing (its moveset is pretty good but has sub-par stats). Hidden Power is very useful, and he also learns Rain Dance, Ice Beam, and Titan Splash (a custom physical Water move with solid power) as well as some other useful moves along the way. Wailord is very bulky but you get him very late unfortunately.
  24.
  25. Q: Any weird mechanics in this hack?
  26. A: Yep. You can only use a maximum of four items per battle, you cannot use Revives in battle (this one makes things challenging), and there are no X items. Also, although this has some of the gen 6 mechanics like +50% crits, EXP is not scaled by level. If it were, we'd be able to skip some optionals for sure.
  27.
  28. Q: What is the WR?
  29. A: 1:31:09 RTA by me.
  30.
  31. Q: How good could the time be?
  32. A: I've gotten IGT of 1:13 on my PB, which had 9 deaths, so realistically maybe a 1:16-1:17 with no deaths? That'd be insane though. I'd be happy with a sub-1:25 and am not planning on grinding this too much.
