Shin Red - Mostly Vanilla, tries to tackle bugs and oversights from the original game alongside some new trainer AI and QoL features.

Red Full Color - Exactly what it says on the tin. It's mainly a colorization hack made to take advantage of the GBC. Overworld, sprites, everything. Imports trainer sprites and HUD from Gen 2.
There're two patches, a vanilla one and another that imports gen 2 sprites.

Red++ - Take a wild guess. It does a lot of things. Takes many features from the second gen like shinies, gendered mons, and breeding.

Intense Indigo - A VERY difficult hack inspired by the Stadium games. Fixes movepools of many of Gen 1's unforunate mons as well.

Red Star + Blue Star - A graphics update based on the Spaceworld demos. Also has changes like gendered mons and shinies, as well as conveniences like running shoes and "talking" to use HMs.

Gen 2 Hacks:

Prism - Romhack of Crystal. Infamously got a C&D because of its popularity. Now with new devs, it continues progress. The first region, Naljo, is done. Don't bother with Rijon, it's unbalanced as of now. Has mons from up to Gen 4, physical special split, and even abilities. Definitely worth playing.

Bronze - A hack of Gen 2 that "feels like an official Pokemon release". Set in a new region with a new story. Isn't especially difficult.

God of Arena - A Crystal "minigame" hack based on the official Battle Spot format found in the 3DS games.

Polished Crystal - It's Crystal, but... polished. Has plenty of changes in music, graphics and otherwise. Like Red++ but takes features from the gen 3 games and beyond.
Also consider giving the beta 3.0 a try, it adds even more things like a box system very similar to the 3rd gen games.

Pokemon Throwback - This hack is meant to evoke the feel of the original Pokemon idea. Some trainer sprites are edited to resemble the original Sugimori illustrations, there's a key item to change the music to the original Gameboy games and more. There's an Addendum patch that add things like harder battles if you want too.

Radical Red - You know this one, for most, the ultimate FR hack. While mainly being a difficulty hack, it adds options like having perfect IVs or a Restricted Mode to make you think your strategies while not being impossibly hard.

R.O.W.E. - Or Rom Open World Emerald, to many considered the Radical Red of Emerald. Shares some features with RR like DexNav, all pokemon, forms, and more things but the main draw being it's an open world game which completely changes the way you play Emerald.
