  1. >"I want you on your best behaviour for the princesses!"
  2. >You nod.
  3. >The princesses have invited you to dinner, in honor of you saving their lives.
  4. >Twilight, the spoilsport that she is, wants everything to go smoothly.
  5. >Whatever, you'll give her this one.
  6. >You have breakfast, have a shower, change your clothes and pack an extra set just in case.
  7. >Shortly thereafter, a carriage arrives.
  8. >One of the ones pulled by pegasi, so it flies.
  9. >You climb aboard after Twilight, and try your hardest not to fall asleep.
  10. >Through infinite amounts of willpower and fortitude, you manage to remain more or less attentive throughout the entire ride.
  11. >You land somewhere near the Canterlot Central Station.
  12. >Exiting the skycarriage, you give a small bow and thank you to the drivers.
  13. >They look much happier for it, and ride away to wherever they need to be.
  14. >Twilight starts off in a direction, and you follow.
  15. >At the sedate pace Twilight seems to insist on adhering to, it's quite easy to admire the architecture of Canterlot.
  16. >As far as you're concerned Canterlot is, in a word, fancy.
  17. >All the golds everywhere, the pointy top things to the tower that probably took a mason quite some time to put there, and the fact that the roads are dyed a different color.
  18. >Fancy.
  19. >At any rate, Twilight and you arrive at a sort of private suite in one of the more fancy parts of the fancy city that is Canterlot.
  20. >Celestia has this place set aside for special visitors, apparently.
  21. >You toss your meagre pile of clothes into a corner, and flop onto the bed.
  22. >You stare at the ceiling and listen to the quiet bustle of the city around you for about half an hour, then Twilight manages to snap you from your reverie.
  23. >She packed more stuff than you, and it took her this long to get it organised.
  24. >"Let's go get lunch, shall we?"
  25. >You nod, and leap off the bed.
  26. >Landing on your feet, you make for the door, stopping to let Twilight through first.
  27. >She knows where she's going, so you follow her.
  28. >You tail Twilight through the twists and turns of Canterlot.
  29. >The city seems to have woken up, with everypony going from here to there, there to here, and anywhere to everywhere.
  30. >Fortunately, all the ponies seem to have distinct color schemes and mane styles, so you manage to not lose Twilight by looking for a lavender pony with straight hair whenever you lose sight of her.
  31. >A few minutes of walking later, you find yourself at a doughnut shop.
  32. >Not exactly your first choice for lunch, but it'll do.
  33. >You sit in one of the booths lining the walls and let Twilight do the talking.
  34. >A short while later, she approaches carrying two rather large doughnuts in her telekinesis.
  35. >One is passed to you and the other she keeps to herself.
  36. "Not exactly lunch food, is it?"
  37. >"No, but I doubt you mind so much."
  38. >She's right. You don't.
  39. >You bite into your food, and listen to the world at large.
  40. >The sound of the hustle and bustle of Canterlot, muffled by the walls of the shop, is rather relaxing.
  41. >You continue to eat, and in far too short a time, you're done.
  42. >You quietly wait for Twilight to finish eating.
  43. >When she is, you both stand up at the same time, and exit the building.
  44. >You give a quick wave and a smile to the pony at the counter as you leave, and notice him smiling in kind.
  45. >Twilight continues out into the busy streets, and you follow.
  46. >You notice that you're backtracking to the suite, so you forge ahead of Twilight.
  47. >With your absurdly long legs powering you forwards you get back to the suite ages before Twilight.
  48. >You curl up on the bed, and have a nap, letting the ambient noise of the city lull you to sleep.
  49. >The sun raises slightly, then starts to lower in the opposite direction.
  50. >Twilight returns, and goes and does her own thing.
  51. >The sky turns different colors, and touches the horizon.
  52. >Simultaneously, the moon starts to peek out from behind the opposite horizon.
  53. >You are awoken by a hoof nudging you.
  54. >"Wake up and get ready, the dinner is in an hour."
  55. >You stretch, rub your eyes, and stop yourself from tapping your purple, unicorn shaped alarm clock on the head.
  56. >You gather your clothes from the corner, and step into the bathroom.
  57. >You have a shower, change your clothes and step out of the bathroom.
  58. "How do I look?"
  59. >"Exactly the same as you did before."
  60. "Good. That's the look I was going for."
  61. >Twilight steps into the bathroom, with a bundle of cloth in her telekinesis.
  62. >You sit on the edge of the bed, and consider the nature of twiddling ones thumbs until Twilight exits the bathroom.
  63. >She's in a dress of some sort. You aren't exactly a dressmaker, or a fashioneer or some sort of tailornaut, so you can't really give an opinion on it.
  64. >It's sort of plain, you guess. Practical.
  65. >"So, how do I look?"
  66. "Alright, I guess."
  67. >She gets a sort of irritated look on her face, but it passes quickly.
  68. >Everything prepared, you both set out for the castle.
  69. >As mentioned earlier, Twilight has a better idea of the layout of Canterlot, so you trail behind her.
  70. >In a few minutes, you arrive at the gates, and are allowed in by a pair of guards.
  71. >Then, you are escorted to a sort of waiting room, as there's still about five or so minutes until the dinner begins proper.
  72. >You wait as patiently as you are able, Twilight sitting beside you.
  73. >Then, all of a sudden, you are escorted into the dining room proper.
  74. >It's a lot smaller than you would've expected from a monarch, but it fits.
  75. >There's room for you, Twilight, Celestia and Luna, and a couple extra spaces without chairs in them.
  76. >Ponies come in, serve food, and exit.
  77. >You notice that your food is lacking in hay, grass and flowers, which are on the other ponies plate.
  78. >You bring this up to Celestia.
  79. >"I've learned about your dietary needs from letters that Twilight has sent me, and made sure you were catered for."
  80. "Thank you, Celestia."
  81. >Twilight shoots you a look briefly, but goes back to her food almost as soon as she starts.
  82. >You eat your food. It's decent.
  83. >You enjoy your meal in silence.
  84. >Other conversations bounce around the table, but you only talk when spoken too, and even then in short sentences.
  85. >You finish your meal, and politely wait for Twilight to finish hers.
  86. >Eventually, she does. Both you and her pardon yourselves at the same time, and let yourselves out.
  87. >The two of you wander back to the suite in the dead of night.
  88. >The sound of business is still there, but much quieter, as one would expect.
  89. >When you get back to the suite, you curl up in a corner and go to sleep.
  90. >But before you finally slip away into dreamland, you tell Twilight something.
  91. "Y'know what, Twilight? Today was pretty alright."
