* Starting conversation with Cadair

<Cadair> If you had to pick a second choice project what would it be?
<VaticanCameos> Hmmm. I never thought of that. Should I think of one?
<Cadair> I am just thinking. We have what is looking like 3/4 strong applications, for two projects.

<VaticanCameos> Which is the second?
<Cadair> I am not suggesting you apply for a different one, but last year once we had the applications in we asked a couple of students if they would be interested in swapping voluntarily.
<Cadair> This one a LC I think
<VaticanCameos> LightCurve refactor, I see
<VaticanCameos> Right, so I should be ready with a second choice?
<Cadair> We don't have the mentors for more that 2/3 students so it might be redundant anyway, I was just wondering how firmly you were attached to this project.
<Cadair> of course once we get the apps in we might decide we want you to do this and offer the swap to a different student
<VaticanCameos> I had some idea in mind as to how to go about it. The main grunt work will be creating the new framework and implementing methods using astropy.
<Cadair> fair enough
<VaticanCameos> I can be ready with a second choice if needed. Its just that it is usually recommended to focus on one idea and thus I never thought of a second choice.
<Cadair> it's my favorite as well ;)

<Cadair> As I say it is something we will discuss with you if and when the situation arises, I was just being curious
<VaticanCameos> I want the experience of oss work, so I wouldn't mind switching if I really had to.

<VaticanCameos> Also it depends on the number of slots innit?
<Cadair> yes
<VaticanCameos> it all boils down to that
<Cadair> I think that the number of mentors we have available is more limiting. Last year the PSF got all the slots it asked for
<Cadair> of course it might not this yeart
<VaticanCameos> Obviously there's no guarantee of slots
<Cadair> Anyway, don't worry about it. The knowledge that you are not totally adverse to the swap is nice.
<Cadair> Indeed
<VaticanCameos> Let's see how it pans out. Is there any 2nd choice you'd like me to look at in particular?
<Cadair> anything that isn't LC refactor is a good bet
<VaticanCameos> Hah
<Cadair> as I say, it is more important that you focus on making your application as good as you can
<VaticanCameos> LC refactor must be facing a lot of competition :D
