- What is the nature of the attack? In general, there are three types of DDoS attacks: Network, Protocol, and Application.
- The mitigation method depends on the type of attack.
- You can find a good description of these attacks and resolution methods here:
- Larger scale attacks usually have to be resolved upstream from the server.
- You cannot block a network DDoS attack at the server if the attack exceeds your server's network limits. Application attacks may be mitigated with some filtering on the server. For example, I had a customer's server being hit with a specific attack on their search forms. The search functions of the web app were resource intensive, so the server overloaded. We use mod_qos to put in rate limiting rules as well as blocked specific Countries using mod_geoIP. This was sufficient to mitigate the attack. Since we move the site to Cloudflare and use their services to mitigate attacks.
- For basic/low-level attacks, I have found Cloudflare's Pro level service to be sufficient. For larger attacks, I've employed the services of Incapsula, Impervia, and Akamai.

- We save you time, money, and frustration by handling the server management tasks required to run an online business successfully.
- No prodding required. We just do it right the first time. Red Hat, MySQL, Plesk, and cPanel certified staff.
- I agree with huck, adding to it.
- There isn't any single way to solve DDos attacks, depending on the type of attack you need to take counter measures.
- Please explain / provide logs / details on the type of attack are you getting and how did you get to know about the attack.
- To be safe, you can just look for a DC with DDOS protection from the network level.

- The best solution would be to go with a host that is offering DDoS Protection. Like OVH.

- centos 7 hosting
- adz2you.net
- yakuza 1 make money
- x-host header
- host 550

- However, DDoS is not a Turnkey solution, you need to understand the nature of attacks and customise your setup.
- an other good option for DDOS protection in app level setup good WAF in your server .
- Not going to lie, I have experienced many DDoS attacks before and those have always resulted in slowing down my webserver. However, it depends on your server and the protection it has against these types of attacks. It could be slowloris, UDP, TCP or any other kind of attack.
- A powerful server deals a more powerful type of attack, your server won't always be able to defend or even if it does - it will slow down your website while it tries to evade the attack. Thus, it is recommended to set up firewall rules like using IPtables to limit IP connections or patching certain things in the web-server you are using. For example, Apache easily gets taken down by slowloris, but there are modules that are supposed to stop slowloris so if you use Apache, consider installing certain modules that are used for evading DDoS attacks.
- After all, if your server is able to detect the DDoS attack quickly before it hits off your server and triggers a certain firewall, then congrats your server can successfully evade DDoS attacks up to a certain limit. You may think of using Cloudflare, and sure that may hide your IP and save you against these DDoS attacks, but what is the use if the person who is attacking your server, finds your server IP? You may want to get a new IP and move to Cloudflare, make sure not to expose your IP at all and keep it hidden, it will help you defend against those DDoS attacks as your server will be protected by Cloudflare.

- This is a bad idea, there are many firewall scripts online and they are all ueless.
- Why? Because if you are going to handle DDoS attack using the resources of your own server, it's the same thing as handling the attack itself. (more or less).
- The best solution would be to understand the type of attack. Mostly, adding a firewall like Cloudflare will do your work. But again, you need to understand the type of attack to completely fix it.
- If you need more proper way of handling load, go for load balancers but it will be costly and will require good knowledge to implement it.

- Unfortunately you didn't understand what my meant.
- i said : if any attack on Application layer can also handle it with WAF . not simple WAF but powerfulf WAF , if you have worked with powerful WAF you could see what happen in action . also "cloudflare" has this Feature . this is not new idea ..
- Glad to know that you are aware.
