- I want Kris to ignore that damn phone so badly. I want him to fucking jump out the window and sprint towards Susie. I want Susie to have barely any time to turn around when hearing the splashes behind her before Kris hugs her tight and comforts her. I want them to cry in each other's embrace, knowing they'll always be there for each other.
- -
- So yeah I was harsh thinking of the last story I wrote on how they'll suffer at the start of Chapter 5. But now I remember all the chapter ending fakeouts Toby has given us before.
- Maybe...
- >"...Kris? You awake, buddy?"
- >You slowly open your eyes to what is both your room and not your room.
- >You appear to be lying in your bed in the Dark World. Susie's bed is still visible on the opposite side of the room.
- >Several of the more bulky pieces of your armor lie on the floor, along with another pair of boots and some spiked bands.
- >You slowly turn your head behind you. Susie is sitting next to you, wedged in the upper corner of your bed, her back resting against your headboard.
- >One of her legs is pulled up while the other is stretched out next to you, and you can see her hand resting gently on your shoulder.
- >"What's with the blank look? Did you really forget already?" Susie says with a sheepish grin.
- >"I mean, I dunno what possessed me to walk back in the rain and climb through your window to check on ya, but... guess I'm glad I did."
- >"Hell, you uh, looked as bad as I felt. Maybe even worse, huh?"
- >"Knew I had to get you outta there. Don't know how we even got here though, I practically had to carry your ass most of the way..." Susie's small grin has faded as she recounts the event.
- >You ask if she was the one who took off your armor.
- >"The hell kind of question is that?" Susie sputters.
- >"Not like I was gonna let you sleep in something that clunky! What, did you want me to put you into your goofy ass dog onsie?"
- >"Actually... don't answer that."
- 1/2
- -
- >Susie can't help but let out a small smile as she remembers something.
- >"Your mom was right y'know, you do sleep like a puppy."
- >You let out a small bark in response.
- >"Heh, god dammit Kris, don't make me regret this."
- >You cautiously ask why Susie is sitting with you in your bed.
- >"Oh, uh... yeah. Hoped you wouldn't mind or anything, but, you didn't seem like you were in a state to be left alone."
- >("Honestly, I felt the same way.") she mutters.
- >She seems to realize she's been resting her hand on your shoulder this whole time.
- >However, she makes no move to withdraw it.
- >You also can't help but notice her jacket has been partially draped over you.
- >"S-so, uh, you feeling any better, Kris?"
- >"I mean, besides... all the shit we gotta deal with."
- >"...Maybe that was a dumb question."
- >You quietly ask Susie if the two of you can stay like this for a bit longer.
- >"Huh?? I mean... I guess your bed is kinda comfy."
- >"Besides, not like I'm going anywhere, right?"
- >You notice Susie gives you a meaningful look as she says this, and gives your shoulder the smallest of squeezes.
- >You close your eyes again, feeling a level of comfort and peace that has eluded you for days.
- >As sleep takes you once more, you're vaguely aware of Susie sliding down alongside you, as she rests her body against yours.
- >Despite everything, in this moment, you think things might still be okay.
- END
- (You're welcome, Indianon)
