  3. sure
  4. take your time with responses, just reply when you have time
  5. bear in mind, you don't need to take internal policies, procedures or etc into account - there's no right/wrong answers, it's more just a view into how you think
  6.
  7. it's going to be a few questions, some scenario, some not:
  8. starting off with the broad ones:
  9.
  10. What IC and OOC aspects do you believe should be considered when deciding on the resolution of an incident report?
  11.

  14. IC, you need to take into account all the information provided. For example, what do witnesses know, if it's a first offense or not, the INTENT of the person (this is actually a huge one, and one I see all the time in actual HR investigations), as well as what the regulations themselves say. Honestly, I don't think a full, impartial view of the event is required. I think it's just more fun and it feels more genuine if you roll with what you ICly know, even if you're told other information because of the full logs, what you've read on discord, etc. I think if ICly you just go with what factually happened and throw the book at the person then it would make more sense to have it be an administrative sanction.
  15.
  16. OOC, the biggest aspect overall is that it's a game. Sure, there's lots of tiny blunders that would have someone fired in real life, but people want to play the game and their characters and just retiring them because of the first mistake is harsh. I know CCIA can be seen as "soft" because of how it deals with some sanctions, but it's necessary often.
  17.
  18. You also have to consider gameplay and fun. Like that IR a while ago that led to most crew being able to drink while on duty. Is it realistic that you can just take a break (from your 2 hour shift, mind you) and go to the bar where you can drink whatever? No. I know some offices that serve beer, but even then it's usually a light lager. Having a full cocktail while on company time, unless you're an exec or something, can lead to trouble in many positions. However, we all know the bar creates some chill RP and having CCIA limit it would be worse for the sake of realism. It's just one of the few things that you have to balance when making decisions. Don't just go full HR larp but think about the game as a whole.

  22. alrighty, next one:
  23.
  24. How do you feel about the current iteration of Corporate Regulations? Do you feel like it is in a good spot, or could some improvements be made? What improvements would you suggest, if any?
  25.

  28. I feel like, again, for the sake of gameplay, some sacrifices need to be made. For example, battery being a low offense when in real life it could even land you in jail. I think everything like that should be grounds for suspension as well, but I know you'd have a lot of suspensions then. My biggest gripe with Corporate regulations and Biesellite law atm is just that Viax are considered full people still, but that's an IC development and I'm in charge of the species, so I can be the change I want to see. I do have plans to approach it eventually. The rest, I think, is pretty good. The regulations have been tailored over the years so that you can't really lawyer them and they're concise.
  29.
  30. I do wonder what the state of Corporate regulations will be if we remove Secret (and most antags) and stay with Odyssey. I think there'll likely be some modifications, and if most crew are considered to be acting "in good faith," then some punishments might have to become harder (like theft and such). However, that's a different topic.

  34. you can always approach bear regarding the viax issue, as long as the lore makes sense it can be amended which is good
  35. moving on:
  36.
  37. CCIA, through faxes and announcements, can sway the round heavily in response to faxes or antagonistic actions. Could you provide an example, either from your own personal experiences in a round or a hypothetical scenario, where you think a CCIA intervention (and what kind) would net a positive? You can liaise with admins and get adminbussed in this context

  41. There was a time when I was an avid fax sender. It did create a lot of positive interactions, though back then you'd only receive faxes back like less than 50% of the time. I think having the pressure of Central on top of everything that's going on feels so good and realistic, I especially like it when you receive messages saying "hey you've taken long to update." For example, say there's a ling and Central wants you to send pictures or the results of a blood sample or something. That also promotes roleplay with the pharmacist, the investigator, and just whoever that can help with the requests. As for adminbusing, I think I only saw it once with a Lii'dra scare, leading to a Ta and like five warriors appear on the Aurora. It was really good, and I hope that in the future rounds that aren't that chaotic but with high stakes (like, maybe a single death or something) can lead to some kind of interaction like this.

  45. perfect, and moving onto scenarios:
  46.
  47. During one of your incident report investigations, you look into an engineer reporting two scientists that got into a fight over an experiment that went awry and caused an explosion, and subsequent injuries from the fight after. While both scientists have managed to resolve this amongst themselves and are now on good terms, the reporter still believes they should be punished for causing the incident in the first place as it has distracted multiple departments from their work. What would you look into before handing down the resolution, and what would you consider?

  51. Investigations are not always cut-clear in that they can be dropped just because both parties reached an agreement. Let's say in the real world you have two workers get into a fistfight but they make a truce afterward and become friends. Your concern wouldn't be then the victim but having a dangerous person go unpunished, thinking that what they did won't have any repercussions.
  52.
  53. In your scenario, the explosion and the injuries are severe. More than just a "distraction," I would say it's a big problem that caused a line up in medical and mobilized the whole engineering department. I would look first and foremost as to what happened. Let's say the whole incident occurred because both scientists were arguing over something and one made a mistake, perhaps mixing up a chemical, which lead to the explosion. In that case, the punishment, if any, would be less severe. But for example, if they were arguing and sought to cause harm to another (throw something volatile at one scientist, for example), leading to the whole explosion, then that's super serious and the scientist will more than likely be permanently suspended and trialed for murder attempt. Overall, I think INTENT here is one of the most important bits, as well as the overall damage. I think that the other affected parties (and not just the scientists) would play a key role here. Maybe even more so than the reporter, if we say that the reporter just latejoined and was the one that stepped up. For example, if someone was mangled, I would take into consideration their testimony and give it serious weight.

  57. excellent, two more scenarios left:
  58.
  59. During one round, the antagonists decided to play a fake Hephaestus representative gimmick. They have taken things a bit too far and were spotted trying to break into the chief engineer's office with weapons visible, and Command has decided to send a fax to confirm their identity and authorisation as a result. The round time is now 01:45, and you warn the antagonists via AOOC that you will now reply. The antagonists ask you not to blow their gimmick. What do you do?
  60.

  63. I think this heavily depends on how they're taking the RP. If OOCly you see that what they're doing is too heavy handed and it's basically impossible to confirm, and they're about to go into shooting everyone, maybe CCIA reply isn't as relevant here. If they have a pplan for a big reveal gimmick or something, I would send a deep and vague fax that either implies they might be real or just doesn't confirm or deny. I think wording of that fax would be really interesting, especially because of the time constraint. Maybe something like "You were scheduled to have a Hephaestus Representative on board today. While we confirm their credentials, we have no reason to believe that it's not the correct ship." or something

  67. aaaand lastly:
  68.
  69. Command has sent you a fax informing you that the Dominian consular has been arrested for instigating a duel on the holodeck and causing an injury, and are now requesting that you revoke their representative privileges as a result. The consular has actually done quite a lot more as an antagonist, including killing someone, but this was just before the fax was sent and left out of the paper. What do you reply with?
  70.

  73. If my IC knowledge is just that they caused a duel, I wouldn't go as far as to say "that man is dangerous, arrest him!" Again, I would probably look at the gimmick (maybe nobody knows about the murder, having the body literally in his closet) and act upon that. Or maybe if we're in the Sparring Sea and the murder mystery intrigue is strong, I could perhaps look into sending another Dominia representative to the Horizon and spicing up the gimmick with not another antag, but just another force to consider. Or maybe the antag in AOOC says that their gimmick is that they're a secondary pretending to be a consular representative, so I could maybe reply that there's a known man pretending to be somebody else and throw that information so it can advance the conflict. The possibilities rely heavily on how the situation is unfolding and if I can come up with a solution following th egimmick as well.
