  2.
  3. Downgrading your console using PS3Xploit
  4.
  5. This process will use a recently released software hack to to allow the installation of custom firmware. Check to make sure that your console is downgrade compatible.
  6.
  7. >> NAND or NOR?
  8.
  9. It is recommended to check the model number on the back of your console and compare it to the chart below to determine if your console is NAND-based or NOR-based.
  10.
  11. Model Flash
  12. ------------------------------- ----------------
  13. CECH-A through CECH-G NAND
  14. CECH-H through CECH-Q NOR
  15. CECH-2000 through CECH-2XXX NOR
  16. CECH-3000/4000 Cannot downgrade
  17.
  18. If you have a CECH-25XX console, you will have to use MinVerChk to check if it's compatible. Instructions: https://pastebin.com/2MAeD9Ke
  19.
  20. >> (Optional) Backing up the NOR [NAND] flash
  21.
  22. Materials needed:
  23.
  24. - ps3_dump_checker.exe from Swizzy's Dump Checker (https://github.com/Swizzy/PS3DumpChecker/archive/master.zip)
  25. - An MD5 Checksum verifier (google it)
  26. - A USB thumb drive, formatted as FAT32
  27.
  28. Dumping your NOR [NAND] is not necessary for this process to work. Doing this is recommended however in case something happens during the flashing process.
  29.
  30. 01. Ensure your USB drive is formatted as FAT32, and that it is recognized by your PS3 by checking that it shows up on the XMB under Photos, Music, or Videos column.
  31. 02. Ensure your PS3 is on OFW 4.82. If it is not, update to it via USB.
  32. 03. Plug the USB drive into the slot closest to the BluRay drive (aka the rightmost port from the front).
  33. 04. Navigate to the Network column of the XMB and select "Internet Browser". Press Start and enter the URL for the PS3xploit website: http://ps3xploit.com/dumper/index_nor.html [http://ps3xploit.com/dumper/index_nand.html]. You should receive a message indicating that your console is compatible. If you do not, reinstall 4.82 OFW. Press Cross to dismiss the compatibility message.
  34. 05. Press Triangle, scroll down one option and select Tools → Home Page. Scroll down two options to "Use Current" and press Cross. Scroll down to OK and press Cross to exit this menu.
  35. 06. Press Circle and choose Yes to exit the browser.
  36. 07. Launch the Internet Browser again. Read the warnings on screen, and ensure "/dev_usb000/dump.hex" is selected.
  37. 08. Hover over the "Initialize exploitation" button and press Cross. A success message should almost instantly appear indicating "Exploit Initialization SUCCESS...!". If it fails, follow the on-screen instructions to refresh the page.
  38. 09. Now select "Dump 16Mb NOR to USB/Card device" ["Dump 239Mb NAND to USB/Card device"] and wait until you receive a message saying "[...] Flash dump operation completed!".
  39. 10. Unplug your USB storage device and plug it into your PC. Drag your dump.hex file over the file "ps3_dump_checker.exe". The program will open and validate your dump. If the dump comes up as "OK" it's okay to proceed. If it comes up as "BAD" and lists the only failures as ROS0/ROS1, click the ROS0 or ROS1 option in the left column and look at the value listed. If either ROS0 or ROS1 is 4674CA6C38D45171F45C48191528E36F, it is a good dump and okay to proceed. If not, try the exploit again from the beginning and do not restart your console until you get a good dump or you may have a partial brick. Report your problem to the developers of PS3xploit if your dumps keep coming up as bad.
  40.
  41. >> Flashing the NOR [NAND] chip
  42.
  43. Materials needed:
  44.
  45. - flash_482.hex (http://ps3xploit.com/writer/flash_482.hex)
  46. - An MD5 Checksum verifier
  47. - A USB thumb drive, formatted as FAT32
  48.
  49. 01. Ensure your USB drive is formatted as FAT32, and that it is recognized by your PS3 by checking that it shows up on the XMB under Photos, Music, or Videos column.
  50. 02. Plug the USB drive into your computer, and copy over the "flash_482.hex" file to the root of the drive.
  51. 03. Verify the MD5 checksum of this file (D05BE52F8D21700052FBD1FC0174ACAE) before continuing. If they match, you may continue, otherwise you will need to redownload the .hex file and verify again.
  52. 04. Ensure your PS3 is on OFW 4.82. If it is not, update to it via USB.
  53. 05. Plug the USB drive into the right-most USB port.
  54. 06. Navigate to the Network column of the XMB and select "Internet Browser". Press Start and enter the URL for the PS3xploit website: http://ps3xploit.com/writer/index_nor.html [http://ps3xploit.com/writer/index_nand.html]. You should receive a message indicating that your console is compatible. If you do not, reinstall 4.82 OFW. Press Cross to dismiss the compatibility message.
  55. 07. Press Triangle, scroll down one option and select Tools → Home Page. Scroll down two options to "Use Current" and press Cross. Scroll down to OK and press Cross to exit this menu.
  56. 08. Press Circle and choose Yes to exit the browser.
  57. 09. Launch the Internet Browser again. Read the warnings on screen, and ensure that the "/dev_usb000/flash_482.hex" option is checked.
  58. 10. Hover over the "Initialize exploitation" button and press Cross. A success message should almost instantly appear indicating "Exploit Initialization SUCCESS...!". If it fails, follow the on-screen instructions to refresh the page.
  59. 11. Select "Patch NOR Flash Memory" ["Patch NAND Flash Memory"]. A message should appear saying "Proceeding to patch [...] Flash Memory...". After a few minutes, it should change to "[...] Flash memory patch operation completed..!". If it takes longer than 5 minutes to complete, exit the browser and try again.
  60. 12. Restart your console and proceed to install a 4.82 CFW (see below).
  61.
  62. >> Installing CFW
  63.
  64. Materials needed:
  65.
  66. - Rebug 4.81.2 CFW (patched to work on 4.82) http://www.mediafire.com/file/yt5ph1ujrhkp3ct/Rebug+4.81.2+REX+4.82Syscon+Thibobo.PUP (MD5: BEABB70067E56DAFCFAE466E1218C1C2)
  67. - An MD5 Checksum verifier
  68. - A USB thumb drive, formatted as FAT32
  69.
  70. This guide will show you how to install 4.81 REBUG spoofed to 4.82. If you'd like to install a different CFW, you can choose one from this list (the installation process will be pretty much identical): https://www.reddit.com/r/ps3homebrew/wiki/firmwares
  71.
  72. 01. Remove the USB Drive from your PS3 and plug it into your PC.
  73. 02. Create a folder on the root of the drive titled "PS3", and inside of that folder, create a new folder called "UPDATE".
  74. 03. Rename the 4.81.2 REBUG PUP to "PS3UPDAT.PUP".
  75. 04. Copy the PUP to the UPDATE folder on the USB drive.
  76. 05. Remove the USB drive from your PC and plug it into the rightmost port on your PS3. Make sure to remove any disc inside your console.
  77. 06. On your PS3, navigate to Settings → System Update, then Update from Removable Media.
  78. 07. Go through all the necessary prompts to install REBUG onto your system. If all goes well, you should now be on CFW.
  79. - If you get a error saying "The data is corrupted" and you had verified the MD5 hash, then the PS3xploit patch most likely failed and you should try the exploit again.
  80. - If you receive error 8002F1F9, check that your disc drive and Bluetooth are working. If they are not, you need to use a No-BD firmware.
  81. 08. Profit.
