  7. Built to Spill - Carry the Zero: 4 college radio core
  8.
  9. Cam - The Otherside: 7 This isn't RHCP
  10.
  11. Coldplay - Shiver: 6 :chris:
  12.
  13. David Bowie - Heroes: 11 What do you expect. It's Heroes. It's got a strong claim to be the greatest song ever made. It's got a captivating story about doomed love and stuff. It's got the dramatic Cold War backdrop about the Berlin Wall, the hated symbol of oppression you could get shot dead trying to approach it. It's got Fripp on guitar! It's got some of Bowie's most impassioned vocals. It's got dolphins. You can't fuck with this song, it is untouchable. it is The Perfect Rock Song. It's melancholic, [long list of RYM tags]. It was inspired by a sight of a guy cheating on his wife which is kinda weird but still. It's one of the most human songs ever made. And it had better win. I'm on one right now lmao I'd better cut myself off before this turns into a Wane-type ramble I just really love music that conjures up the feeling of another place and time this well. also the guitar line shreds did I say that

  15. Dido - Thank You: 10 Quoth I in Charity Rate 5 - "vayyiqra (10): Sometimes, inexplicably one must channel the spirit of a 2000s mom in a minivan who is stuck in traffic while it's pouring rain, sighing deeply. Frazzled and stressed, late for an appointment, but the car's heater is on, the windshield wipers are going, and there's coffee in a travel mug beside her in the console. Whenever that need arises: there is Dido."
  16.
  17. DR. GABBA - Celestial Trash Collection: 8 This must be that gabber style I've heard so much about, only in a non-rhotic accent
  18.
  19. Family Force 5 - Kountry Gentleman: 2 This is the worst Rage Against the Machine song I've ever heard
  20.
  21. Fight Like Apes - I’m Beginning To Think You Prefer Beverly Hills 90210 To Me: 1 She's so quirky! Can't take her anywhere!!! 🤪
  22.
  23. Guided By Voices - Hey Hey, Spaceman: 2 This isn't Bif Naked
  24.
  25. Hudson Mohawke - Cbat: 1 Awful song and awful meme make it go away
  26.
  27. Huey Lewis & The News - Heart and Soul: 7 You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
  28.
  29. IU - Holssi: 9 IU has so many dull ballady tracks I was afraid this would be yet another one but this is a good ditty. Definitely the best K-pop song of 2024 that is about turning into a flower spore and being blown around by the wind.
  30.
  31. Jack’s Mannequin - Dark Blue: 3 "Oh no why does this guy have the pop-punk voice" "Orange County oh"
  32.
  33. Jane Remover - Census Designated: 4 I like the grungy sound but I cannot get past the vocals also I hate the ending I'm sorry Marmite
  34.
  35. Lukas Graham - Strip No More: 2 I can fw the retro vision I just don't like it. Oh this is rancid bro get over her
  36.
  37. Mecano - Cruz de Navajas: 8 I fw the 80s sound of this so much it would really hit in a shopping mall and that's a favourite sound of mine.
  38.
  39. Meet Me @ The Altar - Kool: 6 A fairly alright 90s alt-rock LARP
  40.
  41. Mosaic. Wav - ないしゃおだくーにゃん: 10 Banger. Keeping up the trend of half-ironic self-orientalism in electronic music that was trailblazed by YMO. I love that shit. uh these lyrics sure are !?
  42.
  43. Napoleon XIV - !aaaH-aH yawA eM ekaT oT gnimoC er'yehT: 0 One of the dumbest novelty cuts ever made and he somehow made it even more of a gimmick, beyond what musicology thought was possible, nearly impressive in how bad it is, it's a shitpost tune that was intended to piss me off and it worked all these decades later. Infamously once cleared out a whole restaurant, likely more than once. I salute this man for his commitment to the bit of "making the most annoying song ever made".
  44.
  45. Of Monsters and Men - Alligator: 5 🐊
  46.
  47. Pinback - Tripoli: 4 Arguably the best alt-rock song that is either about Death himself, or brutal Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi
  48.
  49. PJ Harvey - Dress: 8 Hi Nimz :irenenose:
  50.
  51. Six Feet Under - Total Eclipse: 1 I saw about a 99% eclipse yesterday it rocked
  52.
  53. The Beths - Jump Rope Gazers: 6 🧹
  54.
  55. The Cure - Close to Me: 5 Being real I don't really like the Cure I merely like the meme of Robert Smith being a wife guy and about three songs of them but I can't say it's bad either
  56.
  57. The Stone Roses - Made of Stone: 4 I don't get this band. They have the jangle, I like the jangle, but that's it.
  58.
  59. This Heat - The Fall of Saigon: 1 I hate everything about this so if that was the goal it worked
  60.
  61. Times New Viking - (My Head): 2 The 90s college radio vibes are there but still I wish to never hear more fuzzy alternative rock that sounds like it's coming out of a broken speaker again in my life, or indeed any music that sounds like that
  62.
  63. Trippie Redd - Super Cell: 6 Nigh-unrateable track, one of the dumbest (complimentary) songs ever made, I felt my brain melt but also I lolled a bit so
  64.
  65. END
