The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he&#39;s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won&#39;t leave the planet without Riddick&#39;s head as their trophy.
Betrayed by the Necromongers and left for dead on a remote planet, Riddick learns to adapt to the harsh environment and rediscover his predatory instincts. When a more deadly threat appears on the horizon, he is forced to activate an emergency beacon attracting two ships: one filled with mercenaries, and another captained by a man with a personal vendetta against Riddick.
I thought it was better than Prometheus, and the reason why this has a low rating is that people went in expecting it to be a car film set in California. it&#39; s full of mucus drenched monsters, and the lines are cynical, delivered crisper than Clint Eastwood shooting aliens. Totally gripping and delightfully OTT. it has a indie film, personally involved, production and will certainly be a cult, if you like monsters and suspense, grittiness, and live silent landscapes, this is great. this is the good, the bad and the ugly of the extra planetary monster flicks. at some points, the film simply cannot be faulted. there are leaps in time where something was going to happen and then illogically, doesn&#39;t, and some slight tackiness, and if you have the ability to shrug off inconsistencies in order to enjoy an exceptional lonestar villain tarzan wildman versus slimy monsters and headhunters film, you will love it.
I like this movie. I have not seen the preludes to this one but I will now. <br/><br/>The movie opens on a strange planet, with strange colors, a hand is sticking out of the rubble as a type of vulture starts picking at it. Suddenly the hand becomes animated, grabs the vulture by the neck and chokes it to death. It is Riddick, hardened criminal, once again left for dead but far from it.<br/><br/>The story here plays on the theme that at some point everyone wants to &quot;go home.&quot; So surviving some of the most vicious beasts imaginable, and eating some of them, Riddick makes his way to a Merc (mercenaries) station and activates a rescue beacon. He is a wanted man, and in fact the bounty will double if he is brought back dead instead of alive. The beacon states who activates it and soon two competing ships of Mercs land, intent on capturing Riddick. <br/><br/>But Riddick has other ideas, he wants them to &quot;leave one ship and go, or die here&quot;, he writes in blood inside the building. So most of the 1:50 running time is the interplay between Ridick and the members of the two bounty hunter groups. <br/><br/>Vin Diesel, who also produces, is of course Riddick. The scum of the Mercs is Jordi Mollà as Santana. The better leader of the other group is Matt Nable as Boss Johns, trying to learn the fate of his missing son. And to add female interest is Katee Sackhoff as Dahl (pronounced &#39;Doll&#39;). She is one tough cookie, doesn&#39;t take any crap from the guys, and is the sharpshooter of the bunch. There is also a short scene where she is topless in a shower. Cute girl!<br/><br/>All in all a very entertaining Sci-Fi fantasy.<br/><br/>SPOILERS: In the jockeying for position Riddick gets captured, but he had stolen and hidden the two energy modules for the two space ships. That was his bargaining power, either he gets a ship or they all perish on that planet. It doesn&#39;t go easily, most of the two crews die in one form or another, but in the end Riddick is in one of the ships alone, headed for destinations unknown. I suppose setting up the next installment.
Too stodgy for B-movie suspense, too silly to shock, too sexist to stomach, Diesel’s return misfires.
Riddick takes place in 2196, i.e. five years after the events of <a href="/title/tt0296572/">The Chronicles of Riddick (2004)</a> (2004), which was set five years after the events of <a href="/title/tt0134847/">Pitch Black (2000)</a> (2000), meaning that all three movies happen within a decade. She says, &quot;Let me ask you something, sweet-like...&quot; We&#39;re not told exactly what her question is but, based on Riddick&#39;s words from a previous scene, it is implied that she is asking him to have sex with her. Of course, she already told Santana that she doesn&#39;t &quot;fuck men&quot; but she may simply have been lying to Santana because she obviously despised him. No. Director David Twohy hinted prior to the theatrical release date that the home video releases could contain a longer version of the survival thriller. It was supposed to contain more of the mythology in the background. The movie&#39;s first cut clocked in at 2 hours and 20 minutes, a runtime that is unsuitable for most of today&#39;s cinema films. Twohy shortened it until it reached the desired 2-hour mark but promised to enrich the Unrated Extended Cut with some of that material. And that&#39;s what he did. While the theatrical version is quite short on the matter that Riddick left the Necromonger throne, the Extended Cut shows that for him staying on wasn&#39;t really a life-prolonging option. And the ending was also notably prepared for the theoretical possibility that a 4th film could transport the story in Chronicles of Riddick directions once again. It remains to be seen if that ever happens but in the meantime, fans of Riddick can raise their hopes a little more with the Extended Cut of the film that makes another adventure of their hero more plausible.  a5c7b9f00b
