- Nothing happened—except that Gideon and Ajani appeared in a shower of golden light, followed by Jaya arriving in flame. Teferi’s blue whirlwind signaled his arrival, and Karn’s was preceded by a clear, silvery tone.
- Looking around, a worried Gideon just had time to say, “Where’s Chandra?” before she appeared in a blaze of orange and red. Jace heard Gideon breathe an audible sigh of relief. The soldier didn’t want to lose another comrade. And Jace couldn’t blame him. Ajani turned to Jace’s illusion and said, “Be on the alert. This is your base. He’d count on you coming here.”
- Jace’s illusion nodded and raised a finger to its mouth, while the real Jace linked them all psychically. (Linking Karn was a bit of a struggle, the golem’s inorganic mind was so alien, but Jace managed.) He broadcast his thoughts: Proceed carefully and quietly. There’s dust everywhere. Looks like no one’s been here for weeks.
