CHAPTER 2: FUELING THE FLAMES. BY MEGABOY

X has been presented with the challenge of fighting eight of Sigma's most powerful Mavericks. His first location is to travel down to the Prototype Weapons Plant to retire Flame Mammoth.

DATE: JULY 5TH, 21XX.
LOCATION: PROTOTYPE WEAPONS PLANT.
MISSION: RETIRE FLAME MAMMOTH.

X teleports into a factory filled with lava, X activates his Buster and proceeds forward. As he moves through out the stage, he sees a conveyor belt move broken down reploids into the lava.

X: Wait a minute...

He notices one of the reploids still has a shining light in their eye crystal. X approaches the conveyor belt and tries to give a hand to the reploid.

X: You must have gotten thrown into the trash by accident, grab my hand fast! I'll pull you out.

As X gets closer, he notices the reploid's eye crystal is glowing brighter.
X squints a bit to realize that it's actually firing a laser! The reploid fires the laser at X. X quickly jumps out of the way and shoots the reploid. He, lands onto the ground and sees a fragment of their head on the ground. He simply walks away and continues throughout the area...

X: Flame Mammoth did a good job hiding, I'll have to search through this entire facility just to find him...

He decides to sit down a moment, and contact HQ.

NAVIGATOR: This is the Maverick Hunter navigation line, what do you need X.

X: I need a map of the Prototype Weapons Plant that Flame Mammoth is occupying.

NAVIGATOR: On it, I'll get back to you as fast as I can.

X gets off the line and stands up.

X: I wonder what Zero's doing...

Meanwhile...

DATE: JULY 5TH, 21XX
LOCATION: DOWNTOWN ABEL CITY.

Zero is going through waves of Mavericks, he is currently on a mission to obtain information about Sigma's location. He has already lost the Death Rogumer, if he looses another chance he knows he won't be able to defeat Sigma. Suddenly, out of nowhere. He sees Vile approaching him with his Ride Armor.

ZERO: Why are you here?

Vile stands up from the seat of his ride armor.

VILE: I came here to tell you about a little proposition Sigma has come up with, you know those eight Mavericks you sent X to go after?

Zero has a persistent look and questions Vile.

ZERO: What about it?

VILE: Well Sigma caught wind of this and decided to give you the location of his base... IF. X can retire all eight of his Mavericks.

ZERO: Why the hell would he do something like that.

VILE: Nobody knows, hell I don't even know!

Vile looks around for a moment.

VILE: Considering the fact you haven't arrested me yet, I'm just going to go.

Zero fires a fully charged Spiral Crush Buster shot at Vile, however he teleports out before Zero's attack lands.

ZERO: Damn it... Vile is too persistent to get Sigma's location anyway.

Meanwhile...

DATE: JULY 5TH, 21XX
LOCATION: PROTOTYPE WEAPONS PLANT.
MISSION: RETIRE FLAME MAMMOTH

X has spent around an hour destroying Mavericks through out the stage. He finally locates Flame Mammoth's location and enters the room he is occupying. X steps inside and aims his Buster at Flame Mammoth.

X: Flame Mammoth! Why did you join Sigma's revolt?!

Flame Mammoth turns around, he towers over X as he looks down onto him.

FLAME MAMMOTH: Sigma promised us potential, I was tired of being stationed in the Middle East. So when Sigma was gathering other units, I took the call to not betray my commander.

X: Betray him? He's probably just using you to get what he wants!

Flame Mammoth takes a step closer to X.

FLAME MAMMOTH: You shouldn't have betrayed the commander X, he's going crazy talking about you. But who cares, I'm going to crush you to prove my potential!

WARNING: MAVERICK APPROACHING.

Flame Mammoth shoots out large fire balls out of his Buster, gets hit and is knocked onto the ground. Flame Mammoth snaps his fingers, suddenly the floor turns into a conveyor belt.

FLAME MAMMOTH: Let's see what a puny weak reploid can do against my large and powerful body.

He shoots out oil with his trunk around X

X: What the-

FLAME MAMMOTH then sets fire to the oil field around X, cornering him into a burning circle.

X: Gyah?!

FLAME MAMMOTH: Let's see if you can get out of this situation X!

Flame Mammoth taunts X as he is cornered by the surrounding flames, the conveyor belt pushing X towards a wall... Suddenly, X's head crystal begins to glow and his eyes sharpen. He begins climbing the wall behind him, then he jumps off it towards Flame Mammoth.

FLAME MAMMOTH: What- How did you avoid one of my most powerful techniques?!

X starts charging his buster, he then aims it at Flame Mammoth's trunk.

X: Take this!

He fires a charged buster shot at Flame Mammoth's trunk, letting oil spray out everywhere. It covers Flame Mammoth's blinding him from any on-coming attacks.

FLAME MAMMOTH: Why you puny pest!

He blindly starts firing fire balls in multiple directions, X takes the opportunity to properly charge an X-Buster shot directly at Flame Mammoth's head.

X: I'm sorry... But I'm going to have to retire you for siding with Sigma!

X fires.
Flame Mammoth's main processor is pierced, the gigantic Maverick falls onto the ground. The rest of his body starts sparkling, it then explodes! X takes deep breaths, this was his first time retiring a large scale Maverick... He never wanted to do this, but he had to just to protect people. Then, Flame Mammoth's Buster rolls over to X. He picks it up from the ground.

X: I wish we never had to fight Flame Mammoth, I'm sorry.

Suddenly, X's hand starts glowing and so does Flame Mammoth's Buster. In a sudden change, X's armor changes colors to Red and Orange. He looks down in amazement, he checks his Buster. When X fired, it shot out a wave of flames like a flamethrower.

WEAPON GET: FIRE WAVE.

X: How long have I been able to copy weapons?

X's armor changes back to Blue and Cyan, he then drops Flame Mammoth's buster. After that, he teleports out of the area.
