Hana: Heehee, just a bit! Lady Sakura, Subaki and I sometimes train each other in our respective specialties, so none of us are ever off-guard.

Hana: [smile] Alright! First lesson: stretching!
Kana: [sad] Aww, can’t we start with the cool flips?

Kana: Hey, Mama, did your Mama teach you all this stuff?
Hana: [smile, sweat] My mother’s more one for tea ceremonies than training yards.
Hana: I could never get her to so much as look at a katana.
Hana: It used to bug me when I was your age, but I kinda get it now.
Kana: [confused] Why’d it bug you?
Hana: [sweat, frown] Well… there are some people who say women shouldn’t be samurai.
Kana: [surprised] What?! That doesn’t make any sense!
Kana: [worried] Wait, your Mama didn’t think that, did she?
Hana: [eyes closed, smile] No. Although there were times when I thought she might’ve.
Hana: I always wished she’d practice with me, but she never did. She didn’t even want to watch.
Hana: Luckily I had Lady Sakura there to patch me up!
Kana: [surprised] Even back then? You and Aunt Sakura have been friends for a long time!
Hana: Yep! She’s the most important person to me in the whole world after you and Avatar.
Kana: Do you think I’ll have a friend who loves me as much as you and Aunt Sakura love each other?
Hana: [smile, closed eyes] I’m sure of it!

Hana: Of course. C’mon, let’s go get some water while we talk.
Kana: [smile, closed eyes] Right! Gotta stay hydrated!
Kana: [worried] So, um… why didn’t your Mama watch you practice?
Hana: [surprised] Oh, did I forget to tell you the real reason? Whoops!
Hana: [sad] It was because of my Father.
Hana: He was a great samurai who guarded Lady Sakura’s father, King Sumeragi.
Kana: [surprised] That’s my Grandfather!
Hana: [smile, closed eyes] Sure is!
Hana: [sad] Or… was.
Hana: Father died, alongside King Sumeragi. He did his duty as an honourable samurai to the last.
Hana: When I wanted to follow in his footsteps, Mother forbade me at first. She only let me start training after she saw how important it was to me.
Hana: I used to think she was like all the others, thinking I wasn’t fit to be a samurai just because I’m a woman.
Hana: But I get it now.
Hana: I’m so proud when I see you in battle, Kana, but it’s also scary. It’s the same fear when I see Avatar or Lady Sakura in the field, but a thousand times worse.
Hana: And Mother had already lost Father, so…
Kana: [sad] She didn’t want to lose you too.
Kana: [determined] Don’t you worry, Mama! No-one’s gonna get lost! Not while I’m protecting everyone!
Hana: [smile] Heehee, I know. And Avatar and I are here to protect you!
Kana: [smile, closed eyes] Yeah!
Kana: I can’t wait to meet your Mama, after the war’s over.
Hana: [smile] Well, you can’t meet her, but how about we write to her together? I’ve already told her all about you.
Kana: [surprised] Really?
Hana: [smile, closed eyes] Yep! Explaining the whole Deeprealms thing took some doing, but she’s really excited to meet you.
Kana: [smile] Yay! Let’s write to her, c’mon!
