- JJK OP 1 Extended Description
- I was hella sick with COVID-19 for a couple weeks in August. Coughing, congestion, sore throat, extreme drowsiness. When I felt healthy enough to get up and do things, the first thing I did was play some super loud super fast intense music. Of course. Probably set my proper illness recovery back by a whole month. Worth it though
- Ok. Now for my thoughts on this song. Kaikai Kitan. I didn’t like it that much at first but it grew on me and now I think it’s a banger. I didn’t know the drums were programmed until recently. They sounded so real. In fact, every instrument in the song is a virtual instrument. Eve programmed/produced all the parts and wrote lyrics and sang the song all on their own. Super impressive. In my arrangement, the first thing I decided to do was use block 7th chords for the harmony during the chorus. I stuck with that decision all the way through because I love how they sound. Also check out the wacky six-stroke-roll-based drum fill with 4:3 polyrhythmic hi-hat clicks at 1:12. I felt like that was cool. I have an issue with speeding through this song when drumming because it gets me so hype and excited that I can’t help but rush. So I played really hard for a while until my arms were tired and then started recording after that so I had no choice but to slow down.
- I also experimented with sending the drums to a return track with reverb on it instead of putting the reverb right on the drum track. I think it sounds cooler this way and I think I’m going to do it this way for all my future mixes, unless I change my mind again. Every time I mix a piece of music I make, I just mess around and try random stuff and hope something sounds good, so this is nothing new. I also also did some EQ’ing to bring the snare out a little more. This was something I did when I produced my cover of Heir Conditioning, and I liked how it sounded, and then for some reason I just never did it again. My fault og.
- JJK is a really cool show. I watched it with my friends from Davis this one night when it was hella rainy, and it just kept raining and I couldn’t bike home so I just stayed longer and longer into the night and kept binging JJK with them on their TV. My favorite character so far is Kento Nanami, the blonde dude with the round shades and suit. He’s cool as fuck. One of my favorite quotes of the series is attributed to him: “It’s the accumulation of little despairs that makes someone an adult.” Besides him, I also like Gojo because he’s so ridiculously OP and Maki Zenin because her curse glasses are a cool mechanic.
