- It was utter panic.
- The Trainride to Canterlot was anxious, and you barely got any sleep on the way there. It was only from some convincing from your closest friends and a stern look from Fluttershy that you got any rest.
- As you watch from the train, approaching the seat of all ponykind, you are glad you got what little rest you could. In a few moments, you would desperately need it. The city was in poor shape, and in the midst of the final stages of evacuation. Lances of light occasionally speared through the palace and into the night sky; The unnaturally dark night sky.
- You are Twilight Sparkle, and this may be the final moments of a free Ponykind under the benevolent rule of Celestia. You shudder to think of what may come next.
- The train pulls into the station easily enough. You and your friends hop off of the caboose to best avoid the throngs of scared ponies who are eager to catch any means that can to leave the city. The battle was slowly tearing it apart, Celestia and Luna careful to avoid any more damage to the peasantry than they could. Nyx, on the other hand, held no such qualms, and was actively delaying the evacuations to keep an edge.
- Applejack is in the lead, bucking her way past a barricade erected to keep the panicked mob from destroying anything within, and the six of you take stock of the situation.
- “Things aren’t lookin’ good, are they?”
- “Are you kidding me, Applejack? If things could get much worse, I’d like to see it happen.”
- “Rainbow, that kind of Attitude is going to get us nowhere.” You can’t help but scold, “We need to keep together, and get up to the palace, before things degrade further.”
- “Agreed. We had best hurry, before more damage is done.” Rarity responds, and moves to leave, followed by Pinkie Pie.
- “But.. What about Anon?” asks Fluttershy timidly, “Shouldn’t we wait for him, maybe?”
- “There’s no time, Fluttershy, we gotta move now!” Applejack responds, and pushes Fluttershy out the door eliciting a small “meep!”
- Your friends hurry as fast as they can, galloping to the palace. The sounds and signs of conflict were growing more sparse, apparently both sides were growing weary, or Nyx was playing with Celestia and Luna. There was no time for idleness.
- You arrive inside the palace in time to see Luna fly across the palace entry hall, and land in a crumpled heap next to the door. Nyx stands upon the landing, and laughs boisterously.
- ”Foolish Princess!” She scoffs “You never should have left me. All the power we had, and you run off to live like an idealist…”
- Nyx laughs cruelly again, just as you see a dirtied and bruised Celestia arrive by your side.
- ”Princess!” you cry, as your beloved teacher and mentor arrives looking far worse for wear than Nyx.
- “Twilight, as glad as I am to see you have the Elements-“ she begins, but is cut off by Luna.
- “Thou’st not safe within the palace walls, Our Subject. Fly, lest the Nyxt destroy thee utterly.”
- You look up at Nyx, who wears a half-smirk, oozing pretentious superiority. You feel sheer horror at what she has done to the two Princesses, and as you suspect, how she instigated the rise of Nightmare Moon.
- “Position, girls!” you call, as you prepare to engage the Elements. You can feel the magic of friendship focusing. You have what you need to put away this evil, to stop this horrible monster. Friendship would prevale, now and forever.
- In a tempest of light, a beam of rainbows slam into the landing of the staircase, right where Nyx stands. You grow groggy from the effort, and land with a thud, into the ground. You hear five other ‘Thump’s, and slowly open your eyes.
- The haunting, boastful laughter of Nyx from directly infront of you rocks you to your core.
- “You’ve already tried that before, Twilight Sparkle. Twice, infact.” She says, haughtily, “I’ve sense learned how to avoid such methods. You cannot beat me.”
- Your hope vanishes, as Celestia stands between you and Nyx, ready to fight to the death to protect you. Luna tries to rise, but cries out as her leg bends in an impossible fastion.
- ”Perhaps…” says a low, almost whispering, voice, “But, then again, this was never about Twilight Sparkle, nor even Princess Celestia, was it Nyx?” You turn to see none other than Anonymous slowly walking in from another door, his black robes dragging slightly along the ground, “Yes. They cannot fully understand how your powers work.”
- His head tilts downwards, making him look for all the world like he is grinning.
- “But I do.”
- You are Princess Celestia, and you are scared out of your wits.
- Nyx has just badly wounded your sister, evaded the Elements of harmony, and is now ready to try and kill Twilight Sparkle. Every second it looks more and more as if your final moments are upon you. You would gladly give your life to save one of your ponies, but you simply wished it would end with the threat banished.
- And now, an abomination, reeking of Undeath and pure evil, has stalked its way into your Palace. Such a creature you would have attacked immediately before, but as it stands, all you can muster is to defend your ponies.
- “Anonymous!” cries Twilight Sparkle, and you take a step back. This was the creature they had met? You were aware he had been behind, atleast somehow, many recent events, causing mayhem and chaos all across Equestria. How could you not know this was one of the unhallowed monsters from beyond the Everfree? This was no human, that much was for certain, maybe in life, but now it was a demon from a hell no living thing deserved to endure.
- “Hello, little Twilight Sparkle. I hope I am not too late to lend my aid.” You watch it turn its baleful gaze upon you, and your skin crawls. “And greetings, Princess. Twilight, I must ask you to take Luna and your allies from this location. I shall delay and attempt to best Nyx.”
- Nyx scoffs, and Twilight and her friends hastily try to carry Luna from the room. You slowly back away, keeping an eye on both of them.
- “You think you can defeat me? The master of darkness? The Queen of hate? The terror in the heart of Equestria? You are nothing to me, Anonymous.”
- You watch as the undead thing waits. It pauses. Was it thinking? No, it’s head is tracking Luna and Twilight Sparkle. Why was it watching them…?
- And then, it turns its focus to Nyx, just as your sister and your student leave, Twilight’s five friends gone as well.
- “I am the ancient evil in the soul of this world!” boasts Nyx, lightning cracking to accent her claim.
- “You no longer hold the right to that title.” Whispers the undead’s voice from all around the room. His eyes grow into blazing inferno’s from Tartarus its’ self. The Palace begins to shake.
- “At my will,” the shadows writhe with power, even your own seems less content to stay to the floor, “The darkness serves.”
- “At my word,” you hear a wretched, vile scream from outside, something not of this world, “The restless dead rise.”
- ”At my call,” The entire palace shakes from a massive force, and in short order a yawning hole is bashed through the ceiling, a skeletal dragon trying to muscle its way inside, “The Undead Apocalypse begins.”
- He walks, slowly, up to the startled Nyx, “You call yourself the Boogyman?”
- He stops right before Nyx, but a foot from her face. Her pupils are not but pin-pricks, something you can sympathies with.
- ”I am the manifestation of your darkest Nightmares.”
- You decide now is a good time to leave. Two evil, powerful forces were about to collide, and you needed to make sure that, whichever won, your sister and the Elements would be safe. As you fly, you turn to look over your shoulder, and you feel your heart stop.
- A legion of undead beasts, Manticores to Griffons, storm Canterlot. Even ponies are not safe, their hoofless legs being used to climb the sheer rock wall of the Palace, climbing to enter the battle.
- If there was a palace to come back to after this, you would be grateful. As it stands, you can spy no end to the sea of undead that surges into the heart of your country.
- You are Anonymous the Lich, bane of life, enemy of the Living and Lich-Lord of the dead, and you can’t help but laugh cruelly as the once-pompous Nyx realizes that she is fighting a peer in evil. This is no soft, gentle pony.
- Before her stands a ruthless and sadistic opponent, hellbent on ripping her still-beating heart from her chest.
- You will oblige her fears.
- You leap into action in a flash, as she takes wing. You cast your hands above you, summoning a runed shield of energy which negates a barrage of black tendrils. With a thought, your Dragon roars, flattening Nyx in a berserk charge and sending her spinning to the ground.
- Fireballs form upon your hands, and with a flick, you launch them at the crashing princess. To her credit, the Alicorn dodges into the Shadow-world, but this is no safe-haven.
- Not from you.
- You let go of your grip in the real world, and slide into the shadow-lands. You see her there, in the darkness, and continue your assault. Powerful lances of magic score across the nothingness of the dark shadows, and she reels from the surprise attack. You control the darkness just as well as she can.
- She hastily retreats before you, unable to get her bearings, and arrives in time to see your horde crest the cliff, surging into Canterlot palace. Your undead surges before you as you stand, motionless, watching as Nyx tries desperately to deal with the numberless sea. For each skeleton she strikes down, two more take its place.
- In no time at all, she is cornered and fighting with every ounce of her energy.
- You reach to the sky, and call down black fire. A barrage of massive, oily fireballs slam into her, and she screams in pain. Your minions are annihilated, but they do not care. More arrive, and charge mindlessly forwards, ignorant to their fate. They dog-pile Nyx, biting and scratching, a Manticore arriving by your side as the mound grows.
- With a thought, they cease moving, and begin to shake. Nyx, taking this opportunity, kicks out with a bone-snapping kick. The subsequent chain reaction of negative energy detonations is enough to blow a hole in the ground, and send Nyx rocketing into the next room.
- You stroke the manticore’s zombified head as you waltz slowly towards her. She doesn’t look too badly hurt, but you can tell she’s shaken. This level of fury was wholly unexpected, but she grows confident once more.
- “Is that all, welp?” she says shakily through grinding teeth, “Have you exhausted yourself and wish to beg mercy?”
- “No.” you respond, simply, “I just wanted to make sure you were able to handle a few pulled punches. With a snap, you lash out with a barrage of magical projectiles, which crash harmlessly against a flash shield of black ichor.
- Nyx leaps from the wall, a spear of darkness lancing towards you. The manticore moves to intercept, but it is ‘killed’ before it can counter-attack. You raise your hand before Nyx and grab a hold of her horn as she spears through your chest.
- Sparks surge down her body from her horn, electing a scream of pain, magical energy being forced down the conduit for her own magic, directly into her brain. Your make a motion with your free hand, and dark knives dance towards her flanks, colliding against a plate mail of energy. This fight had only just begun.
- Good thing the horn speared through your chest meant absolutely nothing.
- You notice you’re airborn, and wish you still had the muscles to smirk. Nyx slides you off, expecting you to fall to your doom. You fall a few feet, before stopping.
- “I’m sorry, Princess, were you expecting me to play by your rules?” You taunt, pointing a finger at her, “How quaint.”
- She screams as you punch a thin hole through her wing, which grows exponentially as it catches fire. She spins away, writhing in agony, as you watch from the skies. You begin to descend, just above the steps to the Palace. You see the dust rise as she hits the ground, and smirk, chuckling.
- “Oh dear Princess Nyx, are you hurt?” You land upon the base of the marble staircase, just as your undead army floods from within and all around. A thousand committed to this fight, and a thousand more ready to rise from the flagstones of Canterlot itself.
- “Enough… Of your playing… Creature.” Hisses Nyx, rising on shaky feet. She looks much like Celestia did before the Sun-Princess fled.
- Most amusing.
- Nyx gallops at you, roaring in anger. The darkness rises like a tidalwave, ready to crash down upon your minions and yourself.
- You cross your hands behind you back and watch.
- With a crash, she slams into you, and your body is tossed away, the massive black mass slamming into your undead and destroying them utterly. As the shadows sink away, she is panting, obviously having exerted herself. She destroyed a bulk of your army. She thinks she’s won.
- You laugh as you rise, you leg levitating back into place.
- “You amuse me, Princess.” You say, clapping slowly, “Bravo. Bra-Vo.”
- She looks at you, in utter horror.
- “What.. What are you?”
- You look down at her, and let your skeletal mouth give the impression of a grin.
- “I am a Litche, a man who has tossed away his mortal coil and joined the eternal ranks of the undead. I wield the might of the unliving as if it was my own arm.” You raise your left hand, “And now, I bid my minions to rise once more.”
- The rattle of bones and the screeches of animals cause Nyx to spin, witnessing as your skeletal thralls reassemble themselves.
- “You may try to kill me, Nyx, but until such a time as the dead may die again, I believe you shall never succeed. And unlike your frail, mortal vessel, I do not tire. We, do not tire.”
- Your form glows with energy as you float slightly in the air.
- ”Know one fact, Nyx. You did not fail this day because you were weak, short-sighted, nor unskilled, though all the above is true. You die today, for one reason.”
- Her knees are visably shaking, understanding the scope of which you speak of, though her face is nothing but a mask of hate and anger.
- “You die today, because the dead outnumber the Living.”
- You charge her, silently, and unleash a pulse of entropic energy. She dashes backwards, reeling from the assault, trampling over a few skeletons as she does, and blocks it with a miasmic plasma. You tear through the shield with thin fingers, scattering it.
- You will not be impeded by some meddling beast, and as she departs from the land of the living into the realm of Darkness, you follow.
- It was a sound tactical move. Negate your advantage of your minions. You fought now on more equal terms.
- More equal.
- She was still no match for the thousand plans, strategies, and tactics you came up with every minute.
- Her wing caused her to favor her left side. Keep going in with spell after spell, keep her guarding it. Keep her on the defensive and sap her mental willpower.
- Lights dance between the two of you, as spell after spell strikes for the other. Shields of darkness intercept what they can, you carefully measuring your reserves and taking hits as you can allow.
- Nyx is growing weary, but you know she is holding back. You study her, and you can see it. She is waiting for you to mess up.
- You over-extend, put too much focus into a jab. The attack lands on her right flank, throwing her off balance, but she doesn’t care. With a scream, she throws everything she has at you, in a barrage of magical might rarely seen. You’re instantly put on the defensive, blocking attack after attack. Scythes of null energies slice down for you, but you block them all, calling upon shields of glimmers and shadows, smoke and elemental walls.
- For all of Nyx power, she lacks one thing, one vital thing: Experience.
- Everything has gone exactly to plan, Nyx is unprepared for this.
- You let yourself be hit, and detonate in a flash of energies. Your bones fly across the bleak landscape, and Nyx calms down, stopping. She watches your bones with trepidation, waiting for you to reassemble.
- She doesn’t bother to look at the patch of shifting shadows behind her that slowly rise up, held around a single skull. With a flash of light she does not see coming, you slash with a blast of black flame at her. Her hind-quarters begin to melt as she wheels around to confront you, but you are already attacking.
- You do not need your frail body to annihilate this pathetic Nyx.
- She tries to escape again, sliding back into reality, and you follow. You both melt from the shadows, her flayed back-end causing her to stumble. With a callous laugh, you slap her with a telekinetic backhand, sending her flying.
- With a surge of necrotic energies, your body reforms once more, and you laugh openly at her.
- “You have failed, Nyx. Now, and forever more.”
- She stumbles as she tries to rise, weak. Her fight with Celestia and Luna, compiled with your relentless assault, leaves her too worn.
- “I… Will return!” she mutters, “I cannot.. Cannot.. Cannot be defeated…”
- “No, Nyx.” You say, as you grab her neck and lift her up, her hind legs kicking ineffectively to try and gain perchase, “You shall not return. You shall find no solace in the world of shadows. I will consume your very essence. I will feed upon your soul.”
- “No, please…” Her eyes go wide, tears forming in them. How delightful, the wretch finally feels fear. “I.. I can help you.. I can give you so much power…”
- “You are a waste of potential, Nyx. We might have made good allies.” You say, a note of sadness, “I suppose you shall make an even more fine sacrifice.”
- ”You can’t-“ She stammers, but your tighten your grip and cut her off.
- “Power,” you say, darkly, as the shadows wrap around her, sinking into her flesh. Her blood runs freely, and she tries to gasp for air, choking, “At any cost.”
- You pull your free hand back, and plunge it into her chest, the bone fingers tipped with entropic energies and sharper than any knives. You ‘feel’ her heart beating, and wrap your hand around it. Her eyes go distant, as she tries to escape. For a moment, the shadows pause.
- Do they follow her command, their queen?
- Or do they do as you command, their lover and master?
- For that one, tense moment, your plan hinges on something outside of your control. You feel no fear, however. Your cold, unliving logic has no room for such… Base emotions.
- The shadows tighten their grip. They choose you over Nyx, they see your power, and they love you more than any Alicorn princess.
- You rip out Nyx heart, and she screams, her soul being torn out with it.
- You look upon her heart, her black, oily heart. It pulses with dark energies, evil energies.
- With a scream powerful enough to rip the life from any mortal, you sink your teeth into Nyx’s heart, and you feel her soul stripping bare into pure power. You are enshrouded in darkness, as the shadows grip you. They hug your form, and you can feel them digging into your bones, into your mind.
- The power is immense, and you let out a mad laugh as you feel yourself ascending. You are no longer a mere Lich. You have eaten the soul of a god, feasted upon her heart. You are more than a simple Wizard now.
- You look upon yourself.
- You look now like a vile Grim Reaper, a scythe of pure darkness in your hand.
- “Power has never tasted better,” you mutter, “This, is what I call Soul Food.”
- A month passes.
- Your life is different now, since you annihilated Nyx.
- Celestia distrusts you, but you explained to her, with the aid of Twilight Sparkle, that you are good now. She isn’t fooled, but now she cannot act against you without harming your new “Friends”. You are untouchable now. All exactly according to pla-
- You pause as a massive explosion rips through the Everfree. You extend your will and reach out, feeling a familiar mind. You wish you could grin.
- A day latter, you approach Twilight Sparkle and ask to come with her as she prepares to leave for the Everfree, claiming your knowledge on Physiology and such to be useful should they encounter any new life.
- Yes, everything is progressing exactly according to plan.
