SRW OE - Chapter 1 Summary

Chapter 1

Seishirou is a member of Connect, a neutral civilian company with military capabilities and a hidden agenda (world peace and understanding). What's more, it's revealed they're fighting against the mysterious Mucus.

Himari is Seishirou's newly appointed operator for the freshly rolled out Exert. Because she shows potential as a pilot and to avoid radio interference caused by Minovsky particles or jamming, their boss is making her ride along in the Exert.

As the plot progresses, more and more units become affiliated to the Connect Force:

Because of Shinohara's investigation into the berserk Labors incidents and HOS, the SV-2 is forced to work with Connect. The Labors are fitted to work into space but since they're not Mobile Suits, they can't fly around.

General Revil sent the White Base to work with Connect after the attack on Jaburo in order to distance it from the Federation and to keep it safe from Zeon. Connect assumes a neutral position in the conflict so it's against the law to attack them. That's why when Side 7 was attacked, Seishirou was able to intervene under the pretense that it was a civilian rescue operation. It wasn't a direct attack against Zeon.

After meeting Christina McKenzie and helping defend the Alex's launch into space from the Cyclops team, the 08th MS team joined force with the White Base crew at Jaburo so they stayed under Bright's command.

The Eldoran kids and Kouji are famous because they've already saved the Earth from their anime's respective foes. Dancouga has already vanquished the Muge Empire and The Getter team is still battling the Invaders.
RaijinOh and Dancouga assist the Connect Force during their various training sessions.

The Mechanized Beasts that were supposed to have been defeated by the Gosaurer team have suddenly reappeared. Since they were just data, it's possible that a back-up exists somewhere in the universe and that they're not completely gone. They're using the Mucus Gates to travel to Earth. The Eldoran kids have joined forces in order to stop the incoming menace. RaijinOh went to space with the Connect Force to search for the Mechanized Beasts while the others stayed back to protect the Earth.
The Eldorans have also become part of the Gurren Brigade. Gurren Lagann seems to have accidentally traveled to a parallel world because of the Mucus Gates. Simon, Kamina, Yoko and Boota are stuck on Earth and are welcomed by the kids. Seishirou promised that he'll help them go back to their world. However, Kamina is eager to stay and assist the Connect Force and the Eldoran kids. Gurren Lagann isn't an Eldoran robot so to make things easier, instead of calling themselves the Eldoran Team, they're the Gurren Brigade.

Keroro is in the same situation as the Gurren Lagann characters, he popped up in a random colony without his squadron and he's stuck. The sound he makes to signal his comrades is making the Labors go berserk. Strangely, nobody freaked out when they met him.

Exia and the Wing Zero are from the colonies, that's why their technology is radically different from the Federation's Gundam. It's impossible to monitor everything on every colony so it's no wonder somebody created such Mobile Suits without triggering any flags.

Grados is allied with Pentagona and Balarant. Grados wants to conquer the Earth and Balarant is interested in the Warp Gate.

The Warp Gate was reversed engineered from the Mucus Gates by Connect.

The Macross Quarter and the Skull Squadron came through the Warp Gate from the Frontier star system and are assisting the Connect Force because Captain Jeffrey is an acquaintance of Seishirou's boss. What's more, the latter also knew Eiji's father. He met him when he was working for the Federation.
Eiji wants to help the Connect Force because they believed in him and because they share a common goal.
The Macross Frontier plot is over but the Zentradi (as a past enemy faction) have been mentioned a few times.

Seishirou is a very calm and collected character and he doesn't really realize it. His boss who's like a father figure to him wants to help him open up and loosen up. He did show some anger during the training session with the Dancouga team and Shinobu & co told him that his anger could fuel his skills, that he should master it and shape it into a calm hotbloodedness.
Seishirou learned to use a sword from his father and even if he's still in training, Shiro asked him to teach him.
Himari is 2genki4me but she has a nice personality. She's supportive of Seishirou and eager to learn. She seems to have some sort of connection to the Mucus since she was able to feel their presence before the Exert's sensors. She also shows a strong interest in the Warp Gate.

Setsuna and Heero didn't intervene to stop the conflict between Zeon and the White Base. Their objective was to destroy the Cyber Newtype research lab.

G Gundam's plot is already over so I don't know if we'll have the entire Shuffle Alliance or just Domon.

Lelouch was warped to Pentagonia while he was fighting Cornelia. R1's plot is almost over.
After realizing he wasn't on Earth and assessing the situation, he decided to join force with Daba and help them escape the Poseidal forces. CC warned him not to use the Geass because, since they're not on Earth, it might have some unknown effects.

Keroro impresses Kai and Hayato because he's very knowledgeable about Mobile Suits. He explained what it meant to be a Gundam otaku and Hayato was surprised that Keroro was so much into kid's stuff. Keroro told him that it doesn't matter to a Gunota if you're a kid or an adult. Hayato was a bit repulsed by such a possibility.
Kai wants Keroro to tell him all about Zeon's future Mobile Suits but he said that it's a military secret. Kai replied that he wouldn't believe him if he said that was a Zeon spy because there's no way Zeon would have a soldier such as Keroro. The latter then commented on how it was a bit too early for Kai to show journalistic tendencies, which made Hayato laugh.
Keroro realized he has to be careful around the Gundam characters because he could change the future if he spoiled everything, what's more, that would hinder future Mobile Suit production and he couldn't have that. He wants to see them IRL.
Seishirou has a hard time talking to Keroro because he's too serious. He wants to know the exact specs of the Kerororobo Mk.II so he can plan his strategies better. However, Keroro can't answer him straight and that pisses him off. On the other hand, Himari gets along really well with Keroro and she reminds him of Natsumi. Even the Eldoran kids like him, even if they think he's a frog.
Shingo (Goshogun's main pilot) thought Keroro was a well made frog-type pet robot.

When Keroro cleared the misunderstanding, Shingo commented on how the Connect Force was surprising, what with having elementary schoolers and a frog as part of their battle force.
Speaking of Goshogun, its plot is still on-going and Shingo & co jumped to the OE universe by mistake.

The Macross Frontier plot is over but the Zentradi (as a past enemy faction) have been mentioned a few times so we might get some of the original Macross characters later.

Connect is trying to recruit a maximum of powerful people in order to use the Warp Gate, jump to the Mucus hideout and defeat them. However, they also need smart people to study them and understand what they are and what they want.
The Mechanized Beasts use the Mucus Gates to travel to the OE universe and but so do the Invaders. What's more, the Mucus Gates can appear as far as the Mars sphere, where the other Connect Station and the Warp Gate are located.

Kamina tends to get on Seishirou's nerves because he refers to the Connect Force as the Gurren Brigade, or rather, the Great Gurren Brigade. Simon is anxious about the Warp Gate jump but Kamina and Himari's excitement managed to reassure him. Even if the Connect Force fights a lot, they've met a lot of new friends, so even if they don't know what they're going to find beyond the Warp Gate, it might still be an enjoyable experience.

The Colony forces will protect the Warp Gate once the Connect Force goes away.

The White Base detects an incoming life-form and Himari is able to hear a voice approaching their position. It turns out to be a creature called Vasurji (it's not visage). The latter is Connect's top secret ally and is in control of the Warp Gate's performance. With its cooperation, the time and energy needed to calculate the coordinates and control the energy for ONE warp is drastically reduced. Connect's leader confirms to Himari that Vasurji is a living thing and their comrade but since the enemy is coming, he'll save the detailed explanation for later. Vasurji heads up for the Arc Ship to accelerate the Warp and the Mucus appear for the "first" time in outer space (the enemies Dancouga, the SV-2 and the Exert fought during their training session were just drones replicating the Mucus thanks to the data collected by Connect). Seishirou explains that the Mucus are space creatures so they appear in greater number in space rather than on the surface. It's possible they have a warp gate somewhere in the Asteroid Belt.
Himari's mysterious connection to the Mucus allows her to feel their presence much faster than Connect's sensors and it's worrying Seishirou.
While the White Base protects the Connect Station, the Macross Quarter will protect the Warp Gate.

Himari felt something else was accompanying the second wave of Mucus. Viral and the Gurren Lagann team were warped to the "main" universe during their battle. Viral was surprised by the fact that humans had spread to outer space, fighting foolishly among themselves and polluting the world. He commented on how there really was a need to banish them underground.
Seishirou notices that the Mucus swarm seems to be under his command, which is confirmed by Himari. She feels that the Mucus' voices are a bit different since Viral appeared. When asked about this, he explained that the Mucus reason like a beast so it's only natural that they would obey someone strong.
Himari asks him if he can hear the voice of Mucus and he seems to notice something about her, which he quickly dismisses, blaming it on his imagination. If he can converse with the Mucus, Himari begs him to tell them to leave the Warp Gate alone. However, according to Viral, the Mucus are pure, unlike humans and their stupid wars, they're simply trying to multiply, breed. Although, the Mucus seem to have a bad connection to mankind. That's not limited to the Mucus though, to a greater or lesser extent, every animals are suffering at the end of humans. Cutting the conversation short, Viral sics the Mucus on the Connect Force like attack dogs.
Viral's plot was to distract the squad protecting the Connect Station while unleashing swarms of Mucus on the Frontier and the Arc Ship in order to destroy Vasurji since it's the Connect Force's Achilles' heel. After summoning more enemies, Viral leaves the Connect Station to join the Mucus in their attack against Varsage.
Varsage called out to Himari which prompted Seishirou to pursue Viral with Bright's permission. If they don't defeat him, the Mucus will keep on coming. The others are to stay and protect the Connect Station. However, Kamina decides to go after him too but Bright doesn't mind, beating Viral is the top priority. He leaves everything in Kamina and Seishirou's hands.

The Connect Force is trying to jump to the Frontier star system. Protected by Dancouga, GoShogun and the Skull Squadron, the Macross Quarter is in perfect condition but the Mucus swarm is getting more and more intense. They can't let their guard down, if the Mucus start an all-out attack, they won't be able to repair and resupply the ship.
The team is overwhelmed by Mucus when Viral shows up with enemies reinforcements, followed by Seishirou and Kamina. Thanks to the Exia's specs, Setsuna was able to arrive earlier than expected and, to Viral's surprise, quickly dispatches the newly summoned Mucus. Setsuna was sent by the Colony forces to defend Connect while another squad takes care of the Mucus Gate in the Asteroid Belt.
Viral takes an interest in the Dancouga team and their ability to understand a beast's reasoning. He wants to see the strength of a human with the heart of a beast.
On the other hand, he's offended by Killy's comment suggesting that he might be trying to appeal to Remy's wild side with his whole condescending beastman schtick. Viral has no interests whatsoever in human women. Of course, this vehement denial ends up pissing Remy off.
Viral has already received an immortal body from Lord Genome and can endlessly regenerate Enkidu by absorbing the Mucus' life force. Just when the situation seems hopeless, Vasurji appears and Himari can hear its voice again. Seishirou asks her if she can understand it but she's not sure. All she knows is that it's better if they don't move forward. The incredible amount of energy suddenly unleashed by Vasurji to wipe out the Mucus is revealed to be a concentrated form of the energy it charged up to power the warp. Seishirou wasn't aware that Vasurji possessed such offensive power. What's more, he was surprised that his leader knew things would turn out this way.
Unable to summon more Mucus, Viral admits defeat and runs away, swearing he'll get them next time.

After the battle, Himari is concerned about everything that's happened but tries to keep a happy face. Seishirou sees through her lies about being too excited by the warp to stay put and knows that she's bothered by the fact that she can her the Mucus and Vasurji's voice. Even if Vasurji is a precious friend of Connect's, nobody has ever been able to exchange words with it.
Since Vasurji is exhausted because of the powerful energy release, he's currently asleep. They have to wait for him to wake up before warping. Trying to control the Warp Gate without him would result in a colossal energy loss.
Seishirou suggests that Himari should try to speak with it when he awakens, she might be able to communicate with it.
The warp was pushed back but the Federation and the Colony forces sent units to protect the gate and the station.
[I'm not sure about this part since the text scroll a bit too fast for my taste: Exia didn't join the Connect Force but was instead assigned to protect the Earth Connect Station.]

The Connect Force is going to travel from the Solar system to the Frontier star system. Connect's Leader encourages them to make a lot of new friends, visit a lot of world and overcome every obstacles put in their ways. He doesn't have to remind them of their important mission.
Everyone is excited to make the jump. Yoko was officially appointed to be the Defense Class' teacher by their school teacher.
After loading the Macross Quarter and the White Base in the Arc Ship, the Connect Force finally goes through the Warp Gate, towards new adventures, new friends and new foes.

After the end of the show's plot, Lamunes  went back to Japan, to his boring old life full of video games. However, just when he's done clearing all of his games and complaining about how boring life is, Da Cider pops up with some interesting news. He got wind of a story about a beautiful girl in need of saving who promised to give a reward to her savior.
Lamunes and Da Cider's wild and lewd imagination eagerly motivates them to find that girl and get the reward.
They go back to the alternate universe and find the girl who turns out to be Natsumi, stuck in a cave. However, things are not going as expected as the Monskers that are supposed to have been defeated abruptly reappear, much to Lamunes and Da Cider's surprise.
After vanquishing the Monskers, Lamunes and Da Cider start to argue about who saved the girl but another Monsker comes out and threaten Natsumi. King Scassher and Queen Cideron are too far away to intercept it in time but Natsumi uses the item Giroro gave her to transform into Powered Natsumi and destroys the Monsker.
More arguing ensues but their pissed off girlfriends Milk and Leska make their entrance. Da Cider tricks Lamunes into stalling the girls while he runs off with Natsumi.
Despite the perverted shenanigans and the couple's fights, Lamunes and the girls are worried about the sudden reappearance of the Monskers.

Suzaku, Cecil and Lloyd got transported to Zi by what the latter calls a Dimensional Warp. While Lloyd went to a nearby village to look for food, a confused Suzaku wakes up and Cecil explains the situation to him, much to his surprise. Like Lelouch did, she realized that they weren't on Earth because the alignment of the stars is completely different. Fortunately, the Lancelot got warped along with them.
The village comes suddenly under cannon fire, attacked by bandits. Lloyd tries to run away but the bandits want to make an example out of him. Piloting the Lancelot, Suzaku intervenes in order to protect Lloyd and defend the village. Puzzled by this unknown "Zoid", the bandits decide to gang up on him to steal it.
When the enemy reinforcements show up, major Schwarz arrives in his Iron Kong. After a brief introduction, saving the explanation regarding Suzaku's situation for later, he sides with him, impressed by his resolve to protect the village even though he doesn't belong to this country.
Once the battle is over, Suzaku tells his opponents to leave and that he avoided hitting their cockpit on purpose. Frustrated and angry, the bandits run away.
Schwarz is a bit taken aback by Suzaku's naive attitude but he likes him. He invites the team to come back with him to his base so that they can explain their situation. Once Lloyd is finished with his story, Karl is forced to admit that, given that the Lancelot looks nothing like the machines found on Zi, they're really from a parallel universe.
After explaining his ambition for a peaceful Zi and his suspicions concerning the Empire, the major asks Suzaku to join his squad to cooperate with him. Even though he has no obligation to say yes and even if Lloyd wants him to enroll so that he'd be able to stay and study this new environment, Suzaku accepts after a moment of hesitation. Lloyd offends Cecil by commenting on how Suzaku joined the Britania Empire despite the fact that he's Japanese so it's no surprise he would join the Guylos Empire. Suzaku doesn't mind.
