The Start of The Quest

The rest of the day had gone by without much excitement, aside from teaching Twilight how to play a few other games, and a friendly match of Tag Team DoA. Twilight and Placidia managed to somehow come out on top. A couple more matches with different games, and the girls were ready to call it a day. When Alena was about to get into bed however, Alissa stopped her.

"Wait, Alena, I have to talk to you about something..."

Alena rolled her eyes, "You've got the worst timing; you know that, right? What did you want to talk about?"

"Not while awake. I want you to do something first - get into a meditative position, and cut off the perception of the physical world. I don't want you to start flailing and hurting either yourself or someone else. What I have to tell you is big."

"Well, alright then." Alena went back to the couch and sat down, and put herself into a position that would make it obvious to anyone who looked that she was in meditation. Then, she used her new 'system' to cut all motor links to her extremities - arms, legs, hands, feet, and head; she made sure to lean back so that her head rested comfortably on the couch before she began. With everything locked, Alena went into a space where both her and Alissa could talk about whatever was on her mind.

She didn't have to wait long, as Alissa came into view shortly after. "I have to apologize, Alena; I'm not a mirror of your soul, mostly anyway. What I'm about to tell you, is the true history of what happened."

Alena glared at Alissa, "And you couldn't have told us that in the beginning? Or even just told me in a monologue shortly after you threw bullshit in everyone else's face?"

"I get it, I should've told you immediately after, but here was just so many other things going on that it just slipped through the cracks." Alissa took a deep breath, "Alena, what do you know about the story of your genes being changed?"

"Not much, it was hypothesized that the energy which came from under the house is what did it. That's not correct though, is it?"

"No, that's not it at all. I believe that occurrence was my fault, when I came back. Before you ask what that meant, I have a question for you: Who is Jane Galt?"

Alena scratched her head for a second, "As far as I know, there hasn't been anyone in the history of Humans who's been given the name Jane Galt."

"That has happened for a very good reason. What I told you about the Noels being gifted was completely false. There was no Fox clan that lived near the city, the Noels weren't imparted a gift because of a kind deed as there wasn't anyone for that deed to be carried through."

Alissa was stared down by Alena, "Care to explain how your soul existed alongside mine, then?"

"I'm going to be blunt: you weren't supposed to be born the way you are. My soul was supposed to be a template for yours, but something happened. I have no idea what, but I guess it turned out for the better. Because our souls were somewhat 'fused' when we came into the body, its genes were changed to reflect the genetic mapping of the old Humans from Equestria. On top of all of this, there was one other problem: I couldn't let myself be seen in my true form, lest things go out of our control..."

"You don't really look like you're portraying yourself?"

"Not in the slightest. I chose this form to ease both your concerns, and Luna's."

"But why would Luna be concerned about you?"

"Alissa" rung a bell she had conjured from somewhere, "There it is, ladies and gentlemen, the most important question to reveal the most pertinent information! The reason Luna would be concerned, is because I was her confident back in the day. Did you know that Luna had given Celestia a proposal for the two of them to rule separate countries, while still cooperating with each other? You can guess Celestia's opinion on that matter..."

"Is that why-"

"No, that isn't why she went all "Nightmare Moon" on Equestria; the answer to that question is a story for later. As for your first question: Did you know that Humans can wield a magic that is considered "dangerous" by Equestria? The kind of magic that I am referring to, is Soul magic. It is simply the act of lacing the magic that you use with energy from your soul. Sure, any race can use their soul as a well for magic, and yes it does regenerate. The fact remained though, that ordinary magic could not affect soul magic, and using your soul alone as a well for magic greatly increased the power output from the wielder.

"Since soul magic could work outside the constraints of ordinary magic, Celestia saw it as an affront to what Equestria stood for. She feared us, and was wary whenever one of our ambassadors would attend a Council meeting. She quickly outlawed soul magic entirely, and forbade Humans from using it within Equestria's borders. The fact that Humans were also delving into the teachings of dark magic also unnerved Celestia to the point of not really trusting us.

"The rest, however, will be discussed later. Now, as to what I look like..."

"Alissa" started to gather energy, and her form shifted.
