- Kingdome Come: Deliverance 30 hours in or so (the gametime played says 24 but thats a lie because of the reloads)
- So an open world game that is hailed as a successor to Skyrim.
- I will go over by category keeping it short and spoiler free. I will mostly compare it to Skyrim
- and Wither 3, two of my favorite open world games.
- Note: The game uses a weird saving method where you can only save if you complete objectives in the quests,
- sleep in a bed(doesnt always work), or drink a saving potion which you can craft or buy at a vendor.
- This is fine later game, but early on is a pain. For that there is a mod which gives you unlimited saves.
- 1.Story:
- The main story is pretty good so far, re-enacting medieval life and politics. Your choices in most mater
- influence primarily by one of 3 stats you have which open up dialog options(as well as some professions).
- to sum it up, i'd say its somewhere inbetween Skyrim and Witcher 3 imo when it comes to story quality,
- although you don't feel as epic as the Dragonborn. You play as a single character, much like Witcher, although
- Henri isn't a witcher. Still pretty good character imo.
- 2.Visuals:
- The game looks pretty good. again not as polished as Witcher 3, morel like Skyrim 1.5(a modded Skyrim still
- looks better imo). Some areas lack variety polish, especially the bare ground, some animals and foliage. Oh and the rain is terrible especially at night.
- The game boasted that each NPC would be different but thats not the case, but the variety in clothing breaks up the patern.
- The armor and weapons are very good looking, as well as the aestetics of the towns and cities.
- 2.1 Character customisation:
- Besides gear and injuring yourself you cant customise your character. Oh and bathing helps get the ladies.
- 3. The World:
- Devs says its bigger than Skyrim an maybe it is, but because everything is set in a small part of Bohemia, its
- all set in the same theme, there is no winter, dessert area and the like. But it looks nice and vibrant. And its pretty big
- As for world content, theres a decent amount. Altough not as well labeled as in Witcher, meaning you wont be exploring
- as much besides doing Main and side quests.
- 4.Sound:
- So the sound of nature and armor and movement is alright, but the music is minimal. This is escpecially noticable
- when visiting inns, since there are no bards who would sing and play instruments.
- 5.Combat:
- So this is what spoiled the game for me alongside some quest which ill mention later. The combat system is pretty unique
- but not so. It uses a lock on mode where when you swing a weapon you can chose which direction out of 5 it comes from,
- thus being able to aim at different body parts of your oponent. There is also a stab which just stabs forward, but is
- quicker than a regular swing. You can dodge an atack by moving at the start of a enemies swings or just
- block with your shield. The timming for those is pretty small. Block also blocks nomather which direction, but is
- very intensive on stamina. Thus the 1v1 combat is pretty good, those who master the combo system (yes there are combos)
- will like it, and its very rewarding for skilled players. Now thats all good and well until you face mutliple oponents.
- The lock-on system freaks out and there isn't a very good way to lock-out and swing frelly besides using a bow(bow is just like Skyrim, bit less acurate
- and less mana intensive, and no crossaire, but theres a mod for that).Meaning when you fight multiple oponents its a pain,
- especially if they have pretty good armor and shielts, thus blocking most of your damage, draging the fight on, and
- having yourself surounded and wrecked. There are 3 damage types and different armors block different damages, thus having you have
- at least a slashing and bluedogoning weapon is recomended. The combat in general feels slow, sometimes slugish,
- but also because of the combo system, you can get wrecked by the AI, who early on are mostly better skilled than you.
- Again fighting multiple oponents is supposed to be hard, but the lock on thing makes it super annoying. Add buggy encounters
- and its just dalghdalghdlag, making kiting them with a bow the way to go. If you dont get oneshot early. And you can get
- oneshot if you take a blow to the head. Or an arrow to the head. Arrows hurt. Alot.
- The bow is pretty good in general, most of the time in larger fights i've been using that, but you are dependent on using
- higher quality amunition to penetrate the well armored oponents.
- 5.0.a: you can apply poisons to weapons.
- 5.0.b: there are only 3 different melee weapon variatns. Sword, Axe, Mace, each with its own subsets, and each unique
- 5.1 Stealth:
- The Stealth system is pretty basic. Your stealth is affected by level, noise your armor makes, and the color of armor.
- Meaning a leather, black armor is stealthier than a shiny maill armor. Some NPCs are more "experienced" than others, and
- can detect you lockpicking and sneaking better. Lockpicking is alright, pickpocketing is rng bassed and annoying, and
- i havent really bothered with(most of the time i can just knockout an NPC and loot him/her).
- But overall the stealth is a viable playstile. Sorta. You can't really decimate entire camps without being detected.
- You can't turn torches off and on, aswell as other light sorces, but most of the time its not needed.
- 5.2.Heath, stamina, nourishment and cleanliness:
- The health and stamina system is nice, reminding me of a Skyrim mod in which you could injure different body parts,
- having adverse effects on your character, and there is also bleeding. You can't heal during combat, only aftewards
- using potions, bandages to stop bleeding, and resting. You will be resting a lot. Which is nice but the blandess of the inss
- kinda ruins the Inn experience. Stamina is very much Skyrim, much faster on the regeneration part during combat,
- but when you do run out of stamina you can get wrecked. Weight also affects usage of said stamina.
- When you take health damage your maximum amount of stamina decreases aswell, thus you need to rest and heal.
- There is also nourishment which decreasses over time and can be raised by eating.
- Also being clean makes people respect you more. I guess. And the dogs wont notice you as much?
- 6. Skills:
- So you have alchemy, to make your own potions and its pretty fun im, combined with herbalism where you gather herbs
- . You cant mass produce stuff, instead you havea recipe book and using a sort of gimicky minigame make a potion. Herbalism
- is alright except there is a gathering animation, meaning you spend 3 seconds picking a flower. Each time. But at leats
- the cost of herbs per recipe is pretty low, and they are cheap so you can just buy them. Definetly worth making your own
- potions, because while herbs are cheap, potions are not. The same goes fore repairing your own stuff. You cant craft weapons
- or armor, you can only loot or buy it. But you can repair it and save a ton of gold that way. Because stuff breaks pretty
- quickly, maintaing gear can be costly. There is also reading, which involves you reading all the books in the kingdom,
- and using certain books to incerease your skill in various areas. Hunting is also an activity you can do,
- although theres not that much of a variety of game, and the animals themselves are pretty boring to hunt. But it can make
- a decent amount of gold early on. Drinking is also a thing. It makes you less drunk when drinking potions, and allowes you
- to drink more potions at once (similar to the Witchers tonics system).
- Speech is alto a thing when interacting with characters, unlocking dialog options, and choices in the quests.
- 7. Horses:
- They are pretty good, much like Skyrim, they can carry stuff, and you can trade them for different stats. Speed, carrying
- capacity, HP, and courage when in combat. Although mounted combat is terrible, the bow being sorta usable.
- 8. THE CODEX:
- Is just that the Codex. Its nice if you like reading about the historical characters of that time period, aswell as
- traditions and just in general history and society.
- 9. The Quests and missions:
- So this is also a big issue i have with the game. Early missions and quests are well paces and balanced around you being
- terrible. Quests in general arent remarkable in creativity. Kill that, fetch this and so fort. They are pretty vague
- when giving you a guide as what to do, but most of the time its fine. Most of the time. But as the game goes on, it becomes
- more vague and vaguer, and the general quality of quests falls of in terms of buggines and polish. Its later that you
- encounter quests where you don't know what you did wrong. and that people who you never encountered hate you. And
- thats where i almost quit the game. Later quality of quests is terrible, with a few being very buggy, sometimes incompletable
- without at least a few reloads and hoping it fixes itself next time.
- 10. Voiceacting:
- I played with english voiceovers and it was pretty good, there are a few suspicious voices that dont belong but overall its good.
- 11. Animation:
- Is also good, similar to SKyrim. Yes the horse can go up a vertical hill. Almost. It kinda goes weird when there are a bunch of
- NPCs fighitng, because they are all locking on and off and just weird.
- 12. Performance:
- So the game ran fine for the most part, and then in the later parts i've been encountering popin, and loading time increases.
- Bunch of options in the menu aswell as a FOV slider.
- 13. UI:
- The UI and menues are nice looking and straightforward. The aiming reticule when fighitng with a melee weapon is a bit small imo
- and can make blocking and aming a bit harder.
- 14. Controls:
- This game was obviously meant to be played with a controler. The 5 arrow combat reticule is weird to use with a mouse,
- so a gamepead is recomended. Its still perfectly playable with a mouse and keyboard, you will just lack the finese
- in certain situations like sharpening your weapon, or trying to combo.
- Vertict:
- Kingdome Come: Deliverance is a diamond in the rough. A potential to be a moders dream,it has a solid base. The cluncky combat
- when fighing multiple oponents, buggy quests later on, and the lack of Bards (seriously, no bards) make it not great.
- For now i think waiting for patches, mods, and the like is the way to go.
