- Peering down at an airfield through binoculars, Gordon watches as a helicopter lands, almost silent at such a distance.
- Several Combine soldiers trudge out, a more lively crew replacing them almost immediately; and as soon as refuelling is complete, the helicopter once again flies off into the distance.
- Gordon looked to his side to see a shivering Dr. Kliener, barely recognisable under an abundance of snow gear, scrawling down "18:00" on a sheet of paper, many more numbers preceding it. "This Alaskan climate is just the worst" he remarked; "Thank goodness our shift is over, now let's get ourselves warm".
- The two trudged towards to a snow-covered door in the hillside, which opened as two fresh replacements walked out, much like the scene just viewed through the binoculars; which, of course, Gordon was just liberated of as he and his replacement crossed paths.
- Walking inside the crowded bunker that a sizeable rebel force had set themselves up in, Kliener stuck his time log on a wall, underneath a "12:00-18:00" label; and for every six hours for the last two weeks prior, there was a similar log, not a single event on the airfield having gone unnoted. A large "DROPSHIPS ON STANDBY" note dominated one page on the wall, accompanied by a sketch showing which hangar they went into.
- "It's been days since even half an hour has passed without a helicopter being sent off to the Arctic." said Kliener, looking over the mostly-covered wall dedicated to time logs. Turning to Gordon, he added "By my estimates, they've searched about a third of the Arctic. They're bound to find the Borealis eventually, so I hope you're ready to leave at a moment's notice!".
- Gordon idly wandered the bunker, unsure of how to spend his time off-watch.
- This bunker didn't just hold the elite combatants chosen to destroy the Borealis, as everyone knew must be done lest the Combine reverse-engineer it to bring their armies in vast numbers; the bunker also housed tradesmen, scientists, and engineers who busied themselves keeping those combatants well-equipped.
- Gordon recognised many scientists and engineers from Black Mesa, and some were handling the limited resources at their disposal better than others; a humorous example being one dismantling a concrete wall to retrieve the iron rods inside, while another desperately searched the exposed rock for pitchblende.
- Not ten minutes had passed though before someone alerted Gordon to an event occurring outside, and he rushed out to observe the commotion.
- The two people on watch were hastily talking to each other, then handed Gordon the binoculars and ran inside.
- Taking a look for himself, he saw that a helicopter had landed, and simply been abandoned as many Combine soldiers mobilised, running all over the airfield.
- It was the sure sign of the Borealis being found that the rebellion was waiting for, and on-cue a car burst through the wall of snow that was hiding the garage, Alyx in the driver's seat.
- Many cars were in the garage behind her, and all the cars were painted white and being filled with rebel soldiers armed to the teeth.
- Save for Alyx's car; it was painted white, but had no room for soldiers as one seat was reserved for Gordon and the two back seats were taken up by a "dog" with a large bomb on his back.
- Gordon jumped in the car, and immediately the convoy made its way downhill, the white vehicles barely visible against the snow.
- The hangar containing the Combine dropships was opening as the convoy parked amongst some trees, close to several dropship containers.
- The vehicles were abandoned as the soldiers headed for the containers, opening their doors and slipping inside.
- The most cluttered of the containers was left for Gordon, Alyx, and Dog; the latter of which was first to climb inside and clear a space for the group behind a pile of heavy machinery.
- With everyone hiding in containers, the rebel force waited in complete silence for what seemed like far too long.
- Alyx breathed a sigh of relief as a dropship clamped onto the container, and began lifting it into the air.
- The Combine had at last found the Borealis; but little did they know, they were bringing a small rebel army right to it.
