- I would like to share my experience as a student at LGS Defence. A place I once yearned to study at. However, due to the unpleasant experiences there, I had to go through a lot of mental trauma and stress.
- When I arrived here at LGS-Defence I was met with a lot of flaws the college itself had, the side barely any outsider gets to witness. l'm not here to bash the school because there are some genuine people working there and I in no way advocate boycotting the school however I want to unveil this side of it because this is something barely anyone gets to see before joining.
- We were promised that we would get to participate in a lot of co and extra-curricular activities, however, just after the first event which was the "MUN'19", the school conducted NONE of the curricular it used to conduct yearly, for some reason. Event after event used to get canceled, in December due to the extended cold weather and smog the
- government didn't allow any event to be organized which is understandable but after that none of the promised events were held. I myself was acting as an ACD for our swimming team, which is a sh*tty position I myself was acting as an ACD for our swimming team, which is a sh*tty position tbh 101, for LGS defence games and was asked to give 1500 rupees for it. A lot of students along with me gave money to the administration but after the games got canceled we were never returned the money. And LITERALLY, nobody even asked for them until I asked my seniors from A2 who themselves were clueless regarding the situation.
- Moving on, Miss Ruby and Miss Irma who are the coordinators for O levels are extremely impatient and rude with the
- outsiders(those who just recently joined in levels) Countless times we have been treated unfairly during selections of students pre-events, for other schools, and at times when we reached out to them before organizing events, they didn't accept any proposal we used to put forward.
- Furthermore, the classes where we used to study used to be filled with students. A class that had the capacity to accommodate 50 students used to be filled with atleast 100 of them. I myself had to sit countless times at the back of my class where hardly anything was visible. People had to wait 10 minutes prior to the class to get a seat in front. Okay, some people might disagree. It doesn't matter if you're sitting at the back. Okay, Theek hai. However, people used to flood inside and outside the class, simultaneously, when the doors used to open and it would cause such havoc and would waste a lot of time. Chalo, let's say it was all our mistake we should've maintained decorum. However, the classes used to be filled to such an extent that people used to literally sit on the stage where the teacher used to stand up whilst teaching. I myself had to stand up during classes because the classes were filled to the brim. Why did that happen? BECAUSE the school had taken more students than it could possibly accommodate. This resulted in us having a poor environment whilst studying.
- Now, what was even more messed up was the schedule layout for the classes. We used to go to the college, for our classes,6 days a week. From out of those 6 days 3 days, for science students, used to be extremely hectic. Why? The school used to commence 12 at noon and would end at 4 and even late in the evening. This timetable messed up our
- routines big time. Then some people might disagree that we should've woken up early in the morning which is also not possible because the very next day we used to go for class at a totally different time. There was no coherence in the timetable which caused a lot of difficulties studying at home and making time for other things.
- All of this had a mental toll on me and many others because we neither had any activities and neither did we had the time to do other stuff because we were too much busy in getting through the workload, which was tough due to the timetable.
- The physics department in our school was a mess. Teachers left at our time due to many reasons which we ourselves are unsure of. So I won't state them here however this caused many of my friends studying from those teachers to lag behind at the syllabus. AND it's almost July where the rest of the schools are commencing with their A2 syllabuSs and here we are struggling with completing our As-Syllabus. A total mess. The school was extremely unprofessional in handling such situations.
- Moreover, talking about unprofessionalism. Many STUDENTS. I REPEAT many students who earned scholarships were sent fee-challans of the full fee. I myself was sent the fee-challan charging 137,000Rs and it was my 2nd month there as a student. I myself had to go to the administration office to get a new one. I had to go through the process of re-presenting my result to confirm that I DESERVE the scholarship when THEY the school itself had awarded me one on merit, This was solved but I had to go through the tension of getting the fee-challan. Not to ignore the amount of anxiety and stress my parents went through when they saw the fee-challan and questioned me about it, It was extremely stressful and gave off a bad impression of the administration. Now, Sir Irfan is our Co-ordinator who is responsible for such stuff, HOWEVER HE had the responsibility TO CHECK attendances, fee-challans, and results that were given to us after exams. HE HAD THE BURDEN OF managing more than 200 students for sure thus such mistakes were bound to be made and the ADMINISTRATION took no notice of such a thing and kept on burdening him. Sir Irfan IS NOT at fault here. I'm not saying this to save him but it was the administration's responsibility to appoint a coordinator for at maximum 100 students. However, Sir Irfan was managing records of more than 500 students, for sure. Hence, we all had to go through the problem of the wrong results being sent to our homes. You can pretty much understand what happens when a U is sent to your home instead of the hard-earned B you spent countless nights on. It was as if the school didn't care.
- Talking about exams, many students had to go through the problem of their exams not being checked and them being handed over to THEM. YES, this happened to me as well. My chemistry Mid Term MCQ paper was unchecked and was handed over to me. I took it home without knowing that it wasn't checked. When I reached home I saw my teacher's message in the group that we were supposed to return the papers before we left. But I was in a hurry and didn't have the internet to read the very message. I came back the next day and wasn't accommodated and then we gave our papers to sir irfan for checking. Later on, the result was delivered to my home and to my surprise,l wasn't expecting a Big U in Chemistry, but there it was. I didn't have the paper then and didn't know what to do. I was too exhausted to go back and get the problem solved. Yes, I accept that I made a mistake on my end. I should've gone to get the problem solved. However, the school was also at first fault for sending a false report card at home. It had a bad effect on my transcript. Many students who didn't even deserve the grades were awarded them without any checking whatsoever which was highly unprofessional and unfair.
- After that 25% of my scholarship was reduced along with other students who didn't even deserve the deduction even though they had better grades. They then had to go through the process of re-showing their results to get back the scholarship. I had to go through such emotional trauma because of the deduction. My parents were finding it difficult to pay for the fee, I felt disgusted. I felt like a failure, I had disappointed my parents. I was a living burden for them, I thought to myself. It was very very depressing and difficult for me, As my parents were taking me that I had to drop out of college because of it, Even though I had a 50% scholarship my parents were barely making both ends meet.
- Moving on, we were promised that we would be given professional career counselors who would guide us to "Secure" admissions in high ranking universities. The amount of classism that exists in the school disgusts me, Those people who had 100% scholarship were classified into different groups. And those with 50% and 75% were classified in another group. People with 25% and no scholarship at all were classified in another group. This divided the school student population at large and even though I was amongst those who had 50% scholarship I felt degraded and demotivated. It was as if students were classified from the most to the least important, The counseling sessions were a different kind of a mess. That was when I decided that I had had enough from this school.
- The day the career counseling session meeting was set for me was the day when I, unfortunately, didn't have any transportation. So I messed my principal and apologized for the missed meeting. He said not to worry and asked me to come on a separate time the day after that and I agreed.
- When I went upstairs to the second floor where the meeting was to be held at 2:00 pm, I met a counselor. I will not name that counselor because I don't want to do anything that would potentially affect that person's job. However, that person categorically said"..whatsoever you do please, please don't end up in the university upstairs.." such were the remarks of a counselor working there. But there was more to come. I had arrived sharp at 2:00 pm for my session as my principal had instructed me to do so. I was called for my counseling session and I entered the very room. There sat Miss Irma who politely asked my name and the group I was assigned. As I told her that I belonged to the group of people who were supposed to come a day before that day she stormed on me before I could tell her that I had a genuine reason for not being able to come that day and that the principal even allowed me to come the day after. She literally shouted at me for not coming the day before and made me leave the room. Now I exactlyy don't remember what she said to me because I was being disrespected in front of people and was also in shock at ater sudden reaction. I had to further wait 5 hours for my counseling session which was extremely pathetic. I was dealt with as if my future meant nothing to them. There I was talking about the future I had been literally stressing out about and there the counselor acted as if it was child's-play. That counselor finished the session in roughly 10 minutes. I left school at around 7:00 pm. Gutted, disrespected, afraid, and emotionally exhausted. Thinking about my future. Obviously, I was the last one to leave my school which was even more stressful. Everyone had gone to their homes whilst I had to worry about finding an uber then (my only source of transport then) which took another 30 minutes of me running in the empty floors of the school to find some internet connection for my dying phone so I could order an uber and finally go back home.
- Moreover, lgs phase 5 is a place where I lost contact with my old friends and literally wandered around the school in my free time looking for someone like me to spend time with. Yes, Alhamdulilah I was blessed to find aome people but they had a completely different timetable than me and I used to barely meet and see them during the week.
- All of these things kept on piling up causing me to have panic attacks at night. Suicidal thoughts and much more. I suffered and suffered. I thought I was useless and a failure. I thought that I was a burden for my parents. Then I decided to leave the school for the better..for the betterment of my mental health because I had had enough.
