Note that Xiaomi dominates the budget phone category, so most recommended budget chinkphones are Xiaomi phones (including its Redmi and Poco subbrands). Higher price categories have a more diverse mix of brands.
Certain Xiaomi phones are sold under a different name globally and in China. In such cases the global market names are separated by a / (if the same phone has multiple global market names) and the Chinese market name is in parentheses.
If you buy a China model, be aware that it lacks Google Play Services so if you want that, make sure you have some way to get it working (e.g. a custom ROM with GApps). In exchange, it'll also be much cheaper than if you bought a global model (before import tax; another thing to take note!).

>MediaTek vs Snapdragon SoCs
Current MediaTek SoCs are generally competitive with Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoCs in terms of speed and power efficiency (especially the Dimensity series SoCs). The main downside to MediaTek SoCs is that they are considered less developer-friendly than Qualcomm SoCs and usually receive less custom ROM development as a result. However, you can still get GSIs working on them just as easily, as long as you can unlock the bootloader and they are or can be made Project Treble compatible.

Phones with more *s are more highly recommended for their price categories.
