  1. 1 pound ground beef
  2. 1 onion, chopped
  3. 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  4. One 8-ounce can tomato sauce
  5. 1 14.5-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  6. 2 tablespoons chili powder
  7. 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  8. 1 teaspoon ground oregano
  9. 1 teaspoon salt
  10. 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (this is what adds the heat)
  11. One 15-ounce can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  12. One 15-ounce can pinto beans, drained and rinsed

  14. Place the ground beef in a large pot. Cook over medium heat until browned. Drain off the excess fat, then add the garlic and onion. Saute until the onion starts to soften and then pour in the tomatoes, beans, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt and cayenne. Mix well, then bring the pot to a boil. After it reaches a boil, cover the pot, and then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for at 1 hour, stirring occasionally. If the mixture becomes overly dry, add 1/2 cup water at a time as needed.
