  1. Star Ocean 2 - The Second Story
  2. Walkthrough/Guide
  3.
  4. Platform: PS1
  5.
  6. Based on: NTSC-J-version (SLPM-86105, SLPM-86106 & SLPM-87357, SLPM-87358)
  7. (with some notes on Second Evolution)
  8.
  9.
  10. - A single save file uses 1 block of space.
  11. - Below you can see the game's release dates in different regions and
  12. which version of the game the release used. The North American release
  13. (v1.1) had the most bug fixes (until Second Evolution). The only notable
  14. change in v1.2 is the ability to speed up the IC animation. Save data
  15. from v1.0 is fully compatible with the Japanese v1.2 release and the
  16. other way around.
  17.
  18. NTSC-J | v1.0 | 30.07.1998
  19. NTSC-U/C | v1.1 | 31.05.1999
  20. PAL | v1.2 | 12.04.2000
  21. NTSC-J | v1.2 | 03.03.2005 (PSOne Books)
  22. PSP | v2.0 | 2008 (SE)
  23. PS4 | v2.1 | 28.10.2015 (SE)(J only)
  24.
  25. - The 2023 remake, SO2R, is a whole different beast. The changes regarding
  26. the gameplay are so numerous it's just a different game, one that I've
  27. never played and don't intend to. I would've gladly played it if they'd
  28. recreated all the visuals in hand-drawn 2D. *Real* hand-drawn 2D, none of
  29. that digital crap.
  30.
  31. - SO2 has only two mandatory characters: Claude and Rena. You'll have to
  32. choose one of them as the main character at the start of a playthrough.
  33. The events of the game will be viewed from the perspective of the main
  34. character, with relatively minor differences between the two. PAs are
  35. largely different (if you even bother with those).
  36. - There are 10 optional characters, of which you can have at most 6 join
  37. your party. Some of them are mutually exclusive.
  38. a. Ashton | Opera (& Ernest)
  39. b. Precis | Bowman
  40. c. Leon (C only) | Dias (R only)
  41.
  42. - Private Actions (PA) return, and triggering them is one of the ways you
  43. can alter the two affinity values, RP and FP. Depending on these values,
  44. you can end up getting a variety of different character pair endings.
  45. - The affinity values range between 0-15, with 5 being the most common
  46. default value. Each character has their own RP and FP values for all other
  47. characters.
  48. - When a new character permanently joins the party, all opposite sex PCs
  49. get RP +1 between each other, whereas same sex PCs get FP +1 between each
  50. other.
  51. - Higher RP makes it more likely for a character to get angered in response
  52. to another character dying, doubling their ATP for a limited time.
  53.
  54. - Base physical damage is ATP - 1,5*DFP. For the sake of convenience,
  55. enemy ATP values are divided by 1,5, so you can calculate base damage
  56. with 1,5(enemy ATP - DFP).
  57. - Enemies generally have low defense, which is why they're mostly absent.
  58. When a DFP value is given, it's already been multiplied by 1,5.
  59. - Critical hits work the same as before, meaning they have a chance of
  60. inflicting stun, which lasts a couple of seconds.
  61. - Elemental resistance is also the same, although equipment can now make
  62. you weak to elements. A higher level resistance will supersede a lower
  63. level resistance (including weakness).
  64. - As a result of the random variable, damage varies between approximately
  65. 98-108%. (100-110% for magic)
  66. - There are no longer any attacks that have the energy-based attribute.
  67. - Knockback and weight are still a thing, but I haven't found them in the
  68. RAM, so I can't offer any details on that.
  69. - Healing spells don't use a random variable this time.
  70. - Battle skills now level up from use. There are no ougis to be learned
  71. the same way as in SO1.
  72.
  73. - Stats:
  74. Str | Base ATP (Kougeki)
  75. Con | Base DFP (Bougyo)
  76. Dex | Base Accuracy (Meichuu)
  77. Agl | Base Evade (Kaihi)
  78. Int | Base Magic (Maryoku)
  79. Stm | Stamina at the start of battle.
  80. Guts | Defend roll (half damage)(Guts/10), Remain at 1 HP rate (255 max)
  81. Luck | ?
  82.
  83. - Block rate is calculated the same way as before: (tgtEva - Accy)/255.
  84. Attacks can only be blocked from the front. If a subject is moving away
  85. from the attacker even in the slightest angle, hits will be considered
  86. back hits. Otherwise, they're considered frontal hits. I don't know if
  87. Accuracy multipliers exist for waza.
  88.
  89. - Post-battle recovery is still remaining Stamina/8 (percent). Stamina
  90. consumption is also very similar, as seen below. For whatever reason,
  91. only Claude, Dias, Ashton, and Bowman gain any Stamina from leveling up.
  92. - If you're moving and issue an attack command without stopping, this
  93. will still consume 1 Stm, as it results in a brief interruption in the
  94. movement input.
  95. 1 | Start moving
  96. 1 | Normal attack
  97. 2 | Waza
  98. 3 | Magic
  99. 1 | Get hit (dmg>0)
  100. 1 | Die
  101.
  102. - The game uses the same Exp chart as SO1 and SO3.
  103. - Incapacitated (killed, paralyzed or petrified) characters don't gain
  104. any Exp. Resting will not heal paralysis or petrification. You can't
  105. heal the HP or MP of a paralyzed character with magic, but they can't
  106. take damage either.
  107. - You can no longer switch weapons or characters during battle and you
  108. still can't enable or disable spells during battle.
  109.
  110. - You only have two slots for wazas this time. Some wazas behave
  111. differently depending on whether they're used at SR or LR.
  112. - Wazas have priority values that determine which one the AI will focus
  113. on using. (The actual mechanics of the prioritization are no doubt more
  114. nuanced than that, but this is the practical upshot.)
  115. - When the target is above the ground, the AI will ignore moves that
  116. don't have the "air flag." Some enemies that are merely floating a
  117. little above the ground are considered to be in the air, much to the
  118. detriment of the AI's performance.
  119. - If both moves have the same value, either both moves are used evenly
  120. or the first one takes priority (the latter mainly happens with high
  121. priority moves).
  122. - The AI will use normal attacks on a target whose current HP is low
  123. enough for the character to kill them in a single hit. If it's not
  124. quite that low, they'll use a lower priority waza instead.
  125. - A lower priority waza will also be used if the higher priority one
  126. deals no damage due to elemental resistance (Sword Bomber being an
  127. exception (likely an oversight)). Likewise, a lower priority move may
  128. be used if the enemy is weak to its element.
  129. - If the character's base damage is high enough, whatever move is in
  130. the first slot will be given priority. This won't happen with most moves
  131. with a value of 1 unless the damage is much higher than the threshold.
  132. The thresholds are roughly as seen below. If you're hovering just around
  133. the threshold, you can see both moves being used.
  134. 1000: Opera
  135. 2000: Chisato, Ernest
  136. 3300: Claude, Precis, Ashton, Bowman, Dias
  137. - Priority values seem to change with proficiency. The values I've
  138. listed are all based on max level waza.
  139. - If a character can't deal any damage to an enemy, they'll only use
  140. normal attacks.
  141. - Fighters will use healing moves when below 25%.
  142.
  143. - Rena's AI settings:
  144. 1. Cast healing spells only (when below 2/3 HP). Avoid the enemy.
  145. 2. Cast all types of spells. Heal when below 2/3 HP. Avoid the enemy.
  146. 3. Healing only. Heal when at or below 50% HP. Avoid the enemy.
  147. 4. Don't cast spells. Avoid the enemy.
  148. 5. Don't cast spells. Engage the enemy.
  149. 6. Do nothing.
  150. - The AI won't consider a character to be a valid target for a healing
  151. spell if their max HP is less than 2/3 of the spell's base power.
  152. - The AI will still not cast a multi-target healing spell instead of
  153. a single target spell if single target spells are disabled.
  154. - The AI will cast Growth on a fighter whose base damage is less than
  155. 1/16 of an enemy's HP (no attacks required)(takes Auto-Anger into account)
  156. (elemental resistance not taken into account).
  157. - The AI will cast Protection on a character if an enemy's extended
  158. base damage is more than 1/6 of the character's max HP (no attacks
  159. required)(special attacks with increased ATP are not taken into account).
  160. - Enemies usually target the character closest to them, but also have a
  161. habit of going after a character that damaged them. Keep that in mind
  162. when using offensive spells.
  163.
  164. - When choosing a blue target during battle, left and right let you
  165. scroll the characters in the order as seen in the status bar, whereas
  166. up and down use y-axis values. When choosing a hostile target, the
  167. cursor moves "visually."
  168. - The game does not prevent you from picking up items that you already
  169. have 20 of.
  170. - The Check accessories have been de-nerfed.
  171. - Poison: 1/33 HP (both in battle and on the field).
  172. - Characters reach 9999 HP between Lv100-110 and 999 MP around Lv180.
  173. - The game will use teal for unequipped items as if they were new. This
  174. is likely unintentional, but it does make it easier to pass equipment.
  175. - When shopping, pressing Confirm will now complete the transaction(s).
  176. You can still buy and sell at the same time.
  177. - The time it takes to escape from battle is 1 + 0,5(eLv - Lv) seconds,
  178. where eLv is the enemy's average level and Lv is your active party's
  179. average level. The time is 1s at minimum and 11s at maximum. Average
  180. enemy levels are included in the encounter list.
  181. - There's no way to turn off the music or voice acting. (I play the
  182. game on mute myself.)
  183. - If two spells are cast pretty much at the same time, it may produce
  184. a spell fusion effect, resulting in a more powerful spell. Regardless,
  185. magic is just not a good source of damage, so it doesn't really matter.
  186.
  187. - IC works pretty much the same way as it did in SO1, although it's
  188. now quite a bit slower, with each attempt taking about 9 seconds (you
  189. can hold Confirm to speed up the process in the PSOne Books version).
  190. Going through 19 items takes about 3 minutes (90 seconds with speed up).
  191. On the plus side, the game no longer takes you back to the IC menu after
  192. an attempt, which makes it easier to do IC with a character who isn't
  193. the best at the skill - although it's still slower than before because
  194. of the longer animation, but at least it requires less input. Also, if
  195. more than one character is the best at a skill, the game no longer chooses
  196. one in random, but instead selects the one at the highest slot number.
  197. - The amount of SP gained when leveling up is about the same as your
  198. level figure.
  199. - The amount of bonus SP gained when learning a new Talent is now 100.
  200. - Skill levels are no longer rounded up.
  201. - Some characters start with levels in some skills (even without having
  202. bought the sets that include those skills). However, the characters will
  203. not receive any of the stat bonuses you would normally receive from
  204. raising the skill to that level.
  205.
  206.
  207. Second Evolution
  208.
  209. - Second Evolution (SE) is still largely the same game. Here are some of
  210. the changes:
  211. × The screen is zoomed in, and areas that don't scroll on the x-axis
  212. have been stretched. All in all, the field visuals look worse, whereas
  213. the battle visuals look better.
  214. - Voice Collection is gone, replaced with the Voice Gallery, where you
  215. unlock all the character's voices by having them in your party when
  216. you beat the game. Beating the game also unlocks the higher difficulty
  217. levels.
  218. × Voice acting has been re-done and dialog is voiced.
  219. × Bug fixes (eg. no more crashing)
  220. × Fighters can do a combo with their normal attacks.
  221. × Characters are no longer interrupted if an enemy or another character
  222. is pushed on to them.
  223. × The Quick Change and AI Switch buttons are gone.
  224. × Four elements have been removed: Thunder, Star, Vacuum and Void.
  225. × Some spells have shorter animations.
  226. × Spell fusion is gone.
  227. × The battlefields are somewhat different and largely uniform (eg. the
  228. ones with more vertical space than horizontal space are gone).
  229. × In surprise encounters, your characters start off stunned.
  230. × The overworld camera doesn't pan automatically.
  231. × One new playable character.
  232. × The items in the game are largely the same, with the addition of Welch's
  233. weapons and the Umaibous.
  234. × Items are automatically sorted according to type.
  235. × The IC animation is different, and a single attempt is about 6s. It's
  236. faster than in v1.0 or v1.1, but still slower than in v1.2.
  237. × Kyouda, Chouhatsu and Float have been removed, while three new combat
  238. skills for mages have been added.
  239. × Piety only increases a random stat by 1.
  240. × The Energy Nede Snowfields encounter set is gone and along with it
  241. the three enemies exclusive to that encounter set (Saber Bunny, Snowman,
  242. Mount Snow).
  243. × The English version has plenty of name changes.
  244. × On the PS4, the game automatically highlights the least recent file
  245. in the save data screen. If you're doing two playthroughs at the same
  246. time, you need to be very careful when saving the game.
  247.
  248.
  249. Voice Collection
  250.
  251. - Similar to SO1, the game features a sound player, where you can listen
  252. to the voice clips you've triggered. There are 1279 voice clips in total.
  253. Each fighter has about 90 clips, whereas each mage (4) has about 120.
  254. There are 3 bosses who are also part of the collection (about 20 each).
  255. The collection displays each clip as being part of an image that may
  256. eventually start to resemble something if you're industrious enough.
  257. (Just look it up online if you don't have the patience.)
  258. - The collection isn't just there to prey on compulsive behavior; if
  259. you manage to get 50% (640) of the voices, you'll be given access to
  260. the higher difficulty levels, Galaxy and Universe. Getting 75% (959)
  261. gives you a music player, and 95% (1215) adds a visualizer effect to
  262. the image.
  263. - Unfortunately, the game doesn't provide a figure for how many clips
  264. you've obtained, and checking your collection is rather tedious, as you
  265. can only browse them in order, one by one. Getting from the beginning
  266. to the end takes 43 seconds.
  267. - It's also regrettable that the collection doesn't have its own save
  268. file. Instead, it relies entirely on the game save files on the memory
  269. cards.
  270. - An optimized way of getting as many voices as possible would involve
  271. using the following four parties.
  272. a. [R] Precis, Opera, Ernest, Dias, Chisato, Celine
  273. b. [C] Bowman, Opera, Ernest, Leon, Chisato, Noel
  274. c. [R] Bowman, Ashton, Dias, Chisato, Celine, Noel
  275. d. [C] Precis, Ashton, Leon, Chisato, Celine, Noel
  276. - Getting your collection even close to max is a colossal task, however,
  277. and I really wouldn't recommend trying unless you're *incredibly* motivated.
  278. Getting those rare alternate clips takes ages.
  279. - There are actually some voices you simply cannot obtain. These include
  280. but may not be limited to: 201, 310, 489, 774, 787, 797, 1087, 1097,
  281. 1103, 1117, 1225, 1227, 1228, 1254, 1255, 1270.
  282. - Some of the more elusive voice clips are the character-specific anger
  283. voice clips. These require high RP, which makes many of them seemingly
  284. missable if you don't do enough PAs. You might even miss some, because
  285. they require mid-range RP, and you end up exceeding that range before
  286. you trigger them (although you *could* bring it back down to the mid-
  287. range by using a book, but you likely can't get the RP back up). Even
  288. without doing any PAs, sticking to the same active party for most of
  289. the game will likely result in high RP between opposite sex characters,
  290. mainly thanks to the six boss fights that increase RP for active party
  291. members (Harphinx, Metatron x2, Guardian x2, final boss). You should
  292. intentionally kill your characters at times to make sure you don't miss
  293. those mid-range RP (7-9) clips. Default RP is around 5, and a single PA
  294. can increase RP by as much as 3.
  295. - What's worse are the anger voice clips triggered by the death of a
  296. same-sex character. These require high RP as well. The problem is there's
  297. almost no way to increase RP between same-sex characters. You can use a
  298. book to set it to 8, which is technically an increase from the default
  299. value, but it's just not enough to trigger most of the voice clips. Unless
  300. there's a random variable (and it doesn't seem like it?), I don't know
  301. how it's possible to get these.
  302. - You can listen to an unobtained voice if there's an obtained voice
  303. adjacent to it. Just move the cursor immediately after hitting O.
  304. - For some reason, Rena's Tractor Beam clip is not part of the collection.
  305. - Once you've gotten enough voices to unlock the extra difficulty levels,
  306. you'll see a message that says "Please back to the title. And choose
  307. "New Game.""
  308.
  309.
  310. Bugs
  311.
  312. - The game has bugs that cause crashing. Crashing can occur during
  313. battle, in the menu and during dialog. Hell, I've even gotten a crash
  314. when leaving the voice collection. Crashing in the menu is the least
  315. common, whereas, by far, the most common occurence of crashing is at the
  316. very end of a battle when the screen goes black. You may be able to
  317. reduce the chances of this occuring by avoiding unnecessary input at
  318. the end of a battle (don't even move the analog sticks). There are a
  319. couple of dungeons where crashing is much more common, but aside from
  320. that, it shouldn't be common.
  321. - If you revive / heal an incapacitated character after using the Escape
  322. command, the character will take minutes to run away.
  323. - Accessories that increase or decrease stats by a proportional figure
  324. are shown to only increase the base stat even though they actually affect
  325. the total figure.
  326. - The game is unable to turn off the echo multiplier (0,5) when using waza
  327. after using a normal attack (unless the echo hit misses in which case the
  328. multiplier isn't even used). [Fixed in v1.1]
  329. - If you change waza settings and leave the menu quickly, you won't have
  330. any encounters so long as you don't do anything that makes the game seek
  331. something on the disc. The bug will deactivate if you spend about half a
  332. second anywhere in the menu after setting a waza.
  333. - Opera's Heal Star won't heal the first character in the party nor will
  334. it power up from use, thus rendering the move completely worthless.
  335. [Fixed in v1.1]
  336. - When using Hop Step, Precis may jump hundreds of meters into the air
  337. if the enemy was above her.
  338. - If Ashton is set with Leaf Slash and Dead Triangle, Dead Triangle is
  339. likely to get bugged out, in which case trying to activate it will do
  340. nothing other than consume MP. When controlled by the AI, he'll just
  341. stand there and do nothing until he's out of MP. [Fixed in v1.1]
  342. - The AI does not acknowledge lowered MP costs. As a result, the AI won't
  343. use a move if the regular MP cost is higher than their current MP.
  344. - Some of the skill descriptions are incorrect in regards to the stat
  345. bonuses they provide.
  346. - Hayate does nothing.
  347. - Kikaisousa won't show up on your skill list unless you also have Kankaku 3.
  348. - When checking Super Tokugi levels in the Skill menu, the game may show
  349. the skill levels of a former party member in an empty slot.
  350. - The description of items and skills may become messed up.
  351. - Some voices simply cannot be obtained. Some of them are essentially beta
  352. leftovers, while some are just buggy. Eg. casting Ray as Rena produces
  353. Celine's Ray A clip (310), however it never gets flagged as obtained
  354. whether it's Rena or Celine who uses the clip. [Fixed in v1.1]
  355.
  356.
  357. New Game
  358.
  359. - You'll go through some settings when you start a new game, but you can
  360. freely tweak them later. The three different "Battle Modes" are simply
  361. three different presets for the targeting, camera, and movement settings.
  362. - Check your Voice Collection before choosing New Game to have the option
  363. of playing on a higher difficulty level (provided you have enough voices
  364. unlocked). This is the one choice you can't change after the game has
  365. started.
  366. - Save files have no clear indicator as to what difficulty level they're
  367. on. You can still easily figure it out by checking some enemy's HP.
  368.
  369. HP MP ATP Accy Eva Mag
  370. Earth | 1,0 | 1,0 | 1,0 | - | - | 1,0 |

  372. Universe | 2,0 | 2,0 | 5/3 | +80 |+128 | 4/3 |
  373.
  374. - If you have the patience, keep resetting (or load a save file where
  375. you can quickly get a game over; incapacitate all your characters on
  376. the field, then trigger a battle) until your main character starts with
  377. Kiyou na Yubisaki. It's not a big deal if you don't have it, though.

  506. - [R] You are in a very vulnerable position, seeing as Rena is never
  507. really meant to do physical battle. The enemies can strike you down with
  508. ease. You should save between every battle at first.
  509. - [R] You've got Heal and you can also return to the mansion to rest.
  510. - [R] Here's how to handle the four enemy types found here:
  511. - Lizard Axe: You can avoid their attack by moving away, but you need
  512. to let them pretty close before they attack. After avoiding the attack,
  513. you *usually* have a safe window to hit them. Usually. Once you manage
  514. to land one hit, you might as well button mash to try and finish them
  515. off right away. (No need to feint them in SE, since you actually have
  516. them beat in attack speed.)
  517. - Chinke Thief. You can't avoid their attack. It's simply too fast.
  518. Instead, you need to try and get the frame advantage to interrupt it.
  519. Do so by attacking when you're in one of the four positions seen below:
  520. If successful, the thief will back away instead of attacking, thus
  521. giving you the advantage (doesn't work in SE. You'll just have to tank
  522. it). They're not particularly aggressive, though, so you can often take
  523. them out without any resistance.
  524.
  525. R R
  526. T
  527. R R
  528.
  529. - Kobold: Approach them the same way as Lizard Axes.
  530. - Vorpal Bunny: These guys move by hopping around, thus triggering your
  531. jump attacks when they're in the air. Their attacks are easy to evade
  532. (the ranged rocket punch will just straight up miss you if you don't
  533. move closer (fixed in SE)), but they hit the hardest, so you can't afford
  534. as many mistakes or as much bad luck. Try to catch them with a jump attack
  535. when they're landing from a jump. Avoid situations where you might get
  536. hit by a rocket punch while attacking another bunny.
  537. - Hitting multiple enemies with a normal attack is technically possible,
  538. but very rare.
  539.
  540. [Boss]
  541. - 400 HP, 27 ATP, 150 Exp, 500 Fol
  542. - Party: Rena, Claude
  543. - The ogre-type enemies' smack attack uses double ATP.
  544. - [R] On higher difficulty levels, the smack attack can kill Claude in
  545. a single hit. Do learn to avoid it. The regular attack is too fast to
  546. avoid, but he can easily survive that.

  552.
  553.
  554. - Camera rotation on the world map is fixed to L1 and R1. You can toggle
  555. the map with Start.
  556. - [R] You'll want to set Claude as the default controlled character during
  557. battle (in the formation menu). Get him some levels to boost his DFP. (The
  558. controlled character is actually set to the position, not the character.)
  559. - [C] Rena will need some levels, although no amount of levels will ever
  560. allow her to survive for long if and when targeted.
  561. - Although Claude swings his sword horizontally, it doesn't really have
  562. any horizontal range. It's got some reach, though, so if the enemy lines
  563. up neatly, then, yeah, you can hit multiple enemies, but, otherwise, no.

  602. try to decline, but she won't take no for an answer). She's one of the
  603. two offensive mages in the game. However, you'll likely find her to be
  604. of more use in Item Creation and possibly stealing. At the end of Cross
  605. Cave, you'll need to decide whether to keep her in your party or not. If
  606. you're not planning on keeping her, make sure you get the most out of her
  607. brief stay. Max out her Asobigokoro (see below), craft some accessories
  608. (Silver Rings, Emerald Rings), and create some minerals for elemental
  609. resistance.
  610. - Celine's default spells: Firebolt, Wind Blade, Thunderbolt.
  611. - Talents Celine can easily learn (if she doesn't start with them):
  612. Originality, Kiyou na Yubisaki, Design Sense, Rhythm Kan, Onkan and
  613. Yasei no Kan.
  614. - Grinding for Talents will likely feel less tedious if you have something
  615. playing in the background (HoloLive, perhaps?).
  616. - [C] You could now get a unique accessory called Leaf Pendant by doing
  617. a couple of PAs in Salva. It increases DFP by 30%, which is nice, but it
  618. can only be equipped by mages, so I wouldn't bother.

  636. × Sentou Lv1: Kikou, Kyuushonerai, Kyouda, Cancel, [Trance].
  637.
  638. - Konjou costs only 8 SP per level and decreases the SP cost of all
  639. skills by 2 points per level. While Doryoku was a terrible investment
  640. in SO1, this one should be maxed out first thing.
  641. - Raising Asobigokoro gives you money (a total of 100 000 Fol from the
  642. 10 levels).
  643. - The Touzoku Tebukuro is required to use the Pickpocket skill, which
  644. allows you to steal items from any characters you can talk to (including
  645. your own party members). Doing so has a small chance of lowering FP,
  646. however (no, stealing during PAs doesn't help). It can even affect PCs
  647. that haven't joined you yet.
  648. - You only get one attempt at stealing per character (if a character
  649. appears in more than one location, that's considered a different instance).
  650. If you were to aim at zero failures, you'd have to spend quite a bit of
  651. time loading the game and retrying. However, the *overwhelming* majority
  652. of items obtained through stealing are of little to no consequence and
  653. can be obtained more easily some other way. As such, I do *not* recommend
  654. wasting much of your time using the skill. I'll make note of the few
  655. items I do consider worth picking up.
  656. - Unless the character has Kiyou na Yubisaki, Pickpocket will never
  657. succeed. You can learn it through Saiku, but only Celine has that at
  658. this point in the game. Other characters won't be able to learn it
  659. until you reach the next continent (after Monshou no Mori).
  660. - There are two ways to easily get the money for the Touzoku Tebukuro:
  661. 1. Increase Asobigokoro
  662. 2. Create Silver Charms (10k) and Silver Piasus (7,5k) with Celine.
  663. - Claude can easily learn Design Sense.

  672. in the game, but I really wouldn't recommend that. There's just no need.
  673.
  674. Theft: Tamatebako (Old man - east side) \\\ Mars ||
  675. - You can use the Tamatebako to obtain 3 random items from a pool of

  690. - One more time: while this is indeed your only brief opportunity to
  691. steal the Mischief accessory, I don't think it's worth the effort. If
  692. your main character is your thief, feel free to give it a few shots, but
  693. don't hesitate to just let it go. If you're determined to get it, get
  694. your Pickpocket to at least Lv8. And you *will* need that Dexterity on
  695. your main. Otherwise, forget it.
  696. - You *will* need to trigger the event with Philia if you want to be
  697. able to fight the stronger version of the final boss. (There's another
  698. event you still need to trigger later, so this one alone has no impact.)
  699.
  700. - Right, so, if you're not planning on keeping Celine, have her do some
  701. crafting and alchemy now before she leaves. I recommend:
  702. × Renkin: Ruby, Sapphire, Crystal, Green Beryl.
  703. × Saiku: Silver Ring, Emerald Ring, Blue Talisman.
  704. - If you have the SP to spare, increase Claude's Kikenkanchi for a Stamina

  815. you from getting Opera). Before you head back there, though, you should
  816. take the ship to the Lacour continent to get the remaining skill sets as
  817. well as Precis (if you want her instead of Bowman).

  866. Use it to create a Great Punch (Lv5 Customize is enough). Whether or not
  867. you got Precis, you'll want to use Machinery to create IC support items.
  868. Seeing as the kits are a bit pricey, I'd give it 5 tries before reloading

1427. × Mirage Robe (RM): Rena
1428. × Duel Helm (Dam): Claude, Ashton, Bowman, Ernest, Dias
1429. × Pallas Athena (Myt): Claude, Precis, Ernest, Dias
1430. - With these, you can finally let go of the Check accessories for most
1431. characters. You'll want to replace them with Berserk Rings, Atlas Rings
1432. and Might Chains. Opera and Ashton can't get immunity to Paralysis from
1433. anything other than the accessory, but having one character vulnerable

1435. of the stick, as he can't equip a single piece of armor that would

  1457.
1458. × Bullying Battle involves fighting 3 groups of enemies with a single
  1459. character.
  1460.
1461. × Team Battle involves fighting up to 5 one-on-one battles with up to
1462. 5 different characters. It ends once you've either won or lost 3 matches.
1463. The enemies are fought in random order except for the fifth one. A
1464. single character can be chosen more than once but not in consecutive
1465. battles. If a character chosen more than once falls, they'll be revived
1466. with 1 HP in their next battle. If a character is paralyzed or petrified,
1467. they will not be healed and thus will inevitably lose their subsequent
1468. matches. You can get the prizes 3 times.

1736. their special attacks at a relentless pace if you can't keep them busy.
1737. - Give Rena Witch Boots. Disable Antidote, so she doesn't have to waste
1738. time casting it. Or you can just equip Poison Checks.
1739. - Michael's Spicule hits all characters and deals 4x damage. Better have
1740. some Fire resistance. You have about half a second to interrupt it. His
1741. Explode does 5500 pod (occasionally also uses Eruption and Cure All).
1742. - Haniel's Mind Blast hits characters in a linear path and does double
1743. damage. His physical attacks can Poison and Petrify you. His more common
1744. normal attack is a laser that hits multiple times at 0,5x damage in a
1745. linear path. He can cast Blood Scylla (1500 pod, his most common spell),
1746. Tractor Beam (3000 pod, uncommon) and Lost Mental (330 MP).
1747. - Each one has 23 clips for the voice collection, at least technically.
1748. Some of them seem to be bugged out and unobtainable. Very nice. Either
1749. way, getting those rare clips takes fucking ages and you may have to
1750. create save files solely for those clips. I wouldn't bother. At least
1751. get the easy ones, though. After the battle, save to another slot, then
1752. get wiped out (use Nightmare Pots or Mandrakes on all four characters,
1753. then start a battle), so you can go check them. The rare ones are 1232,

  1790. - 460 000 Exp, 80 000 Fol
1791. - Horobi no Kaze is Wind-elemental and hits all characters at 3,5x
1792. damage. You have a small fraction of a second to interrupt it. His
1793. normal attack is Thunder-elemental. He can cast Word of Death (no clips,
1794. it would seem) and Demon's Gate (3500 pod, V). Might take a while before
1795. he uses Demon's Gate. Set your fighters on Manual and just wait.
1796. - Since he's a floater, the AI won't be using anything you want it to

1798. between two (or maybe even three) characters. [This has been changed
1799. in the PSP version, which makes things so much easier.]

1806. - Divine Wave is a ripple that hits multiple times at 0,5x damage. He
1807. uses it a lot, which is really bad for you, seeing as a single one will
1808. quickly kill any characters that come into contact with it. Try jumping

1818. - Phase 1: Divine Wave, Star Flare, Noah, Fairy Heal
  1819. - Phase 2 (below 2/3 HP): + rest & float status
1820. - Phase 2 won't actually start until he's used Time of Truth. You have a
1821. very small window for interrupting it, so if you just keep him stunlocked,
1822. he'll never get to use it.
1823. - He can cast spells while moving.
1824. - Stun bombs don't seem to work.
  1825.
  1826.
1827. - The dialog during the second part of the ending runs automatically,
1828. although you can speed it up with manual input.
  1829.
1830. - After using the final save point, you can return to Expel by talking
1831. to an old man at the arena in Fun City.
1832. - If you do a Private Action in Central City, there's an event you can
1833. trigger in Narl's office that will make the final boss even harder than
1834. he already is. This process is irreversible and I do *not* recommend it.
