  36. - A single save file uses 1 block of space.
  37. - Below you can see the game's release dates in different regions and
  38. which version of the game the release used. The North American release
  39. (v1.1) had the most bug fixes (until Second Evolution). The only notable
  40. change in v1.2 is the ability to speed up the IC animation. Save data
  41. from v1.0 is fully compatible with the Japanese v1.3 release and the
  42. other way around.
  43.
  44. NTSC-J | v1.0 | 30.07.1998
  45. NTSC-U/C | v1.1 | 31.05.1999
  46. PAL | v1.2 | 12.04.2000

  49. PS4 | v2.1 | 28.10.2015 (SE)(J only)
  50.
  51. - The 2023 remake, SO2R, is a whole different beast. The changes regarding
  52. the gameplay are so numerous it's just a different game, one that I've
  53. never played and don't intend to. I would've gladly played it if they'd
  54. recreated all the visuals in hand-drawn 2D. *Real* hand-drawn 2D, none of
  55. that digital crap.
  56.
  57. - SO2 has only two mandatory characters: Claude and Rena. You'll have to
  58. choose one of them as the main character at the start of a playthrough.
  59. The events of the game will be viewed from the perspective of the main
  60. character, with relatively minor differences between the two. PAs are
  61. largely different (if you even bother with those).
  62. - There are 10 optional characters, of which you can have at most 6 join
  63. your party. Some of them are mutually exclusive.
  64. a. Ashton | Opera (& Ernest)
  65. b. Precis | Bowman
  66. c. Leon (C only) | Dias (R only)
  67.
  68. - Private Actions (PA) return, and triggering them is one of the ways you
  69. can alter the two affinity values, RP and FP. Depending on these values,
  70. you can end up getting a variety of different character pair endings.
  71. - The affinity values range between 0-15, with 5 being the most common
  72. default value. Each character has their own RP and FP values for all other
  73. characters.
  74. - There are some events outside of PAs that will also increase affinity.
  75. The most common boost involves all opposite sex PCs getting +1 RP between
  76. each other and same sex PCs getting +1 FP between each other.
  77. - Higher RP makes it more likely for a character to get angered in response
  78. to another character dying, doubling their ATP for 20s.
  79.
  80. - Stats:
  81. Str | Base ATP (Kougeki)
  82. Con | Base DFP (Bougyo)
  83. Dex | Base Accuracy (Meichuu)
  84. Agl | Base Evade (Kaihi)
  85. Int | Base Magic (Maryoku)
  86. Stm | Stamina at the start of battle.
  87. Guts | Crit roll 1 (Guts/10), Defend roll (half damage)(Guts/10),
  88. Remain at 1 HP rate (255 max)
  89. Luck | ?
  90.
  91. - Base physical damage is ATP - 1,5*DFP. For the sake of convenience,
  92. enemy ATP values are divided by 1,5, so you can calculate base damage
  93. with 1,5(enemy ATP - DFP).
  94. - Enemies generally have low defense, which is why they're mostly absent.
  95. When a DFP value is given, it's already been multiplied by 1,5.
  96. - Crits do 1,5x damage and have a 50% chance to inflict stun, which lasts
  97. 2 seconds (or longer if re-inflicted). There seem to be two separate
  98. critical hit rolls. One defined by Guts (Guts/10) and another defined
  99. by the combined Crit values of your gear (Crit/5). When you get a Guts
  100. crit, you'll see 'Guts' pop up over the character (also happens with
  101. other Guts-related rolls). There's no 'double crit,' though, that would
  102. give you a greater damage multiplier. I think the second roll is passed
  103. if the first one succeeds.
  104. - The vast majority of enemies have a Crit value of 40, and only a few
  105. enemies have a Guts value greater than 0. Enemies with an exceptionally
  106. high Crit value will have their ATP marked with a 'c.'
  107. - The effect of Luck is a complete mystery. It plays no part in crits,
  108. that's for sure. It might have some impact on the encounter rate like
  109. it does in ToP.
  110. - Elemental resistance still comes in the same five flavors (neutral,
  111. resistant (0,5x), weak (2x), immune, absorb), although equipment can
  112. now make you weak to elements. A higher level resistance will supersede
  113. a lower level resistance (including weakness).
  114. - As a result of the random variable, damage varies between approximately
  115. 98-108%. (100-110% for magic)
  116. - There are no longer any attacks that have the energy-based attribute.
  117. - Knockback caused by attacks is still defined by Knockback and Weight
  118. values. Average Wgt is 8, and average Kb is 16. Most enemies are 8 Wgt.
  119. Lighter enemies are 4 or 6. Heavy enemies are 12-15 or even higher. A
  120. higher weight means less knockback and, thus, a shorter hitstun. Indeed,
  121. heavy enemies can easily punish you at close range, but their weight
  122. also makes them more vulnerable to multi-hit attacks, which aren't as
  123. effective on lighter enemies, as they're quickly pushed out of range
  124. (unless they're pinned down).
  125. - Movement speed (Mov) is in no way affected by Weight. Those are two
  126. separate things. Some battlefields have uneven ground, which has a minor
  127. impact on movement speed.
  128. - Block rate is calculated the same way as before: (tgtEva - Accy)/255.
  129. Attacks can only be blocked from the front. If a subject is moving away
  130. from the attacker even in the slightest angle, hits will be considered
  131. back hits. Otherwise, they're considered frontal hits. I don't know if
  132. Accuracy multipliers exist for waza.
  133. - Similar to ToP, battle skills gain Proficiency when used (1 point per
  134. use, up to 999). Reaching certain thresholds will then level up the move,
  135. although they can't level up mid-battle. There are no ougis to be learned
  136. the same way as in SO1.
  137. - Magic potency is similar as before, with a base potency figure along
  138. with Mag and Proficiency modifiers. For enemies, Proficiency = Level.
  139. - Healing spells don't use a random variable this time.
  140. - Post-battle recovery is still remaining Stamina/8 (percent). Stamina
  141. consumption is also very similar, as seen below. For whatever reason,
  142. only Claude, Dias, Ashton, and Bowman gain any Stamina from leveling up.
  143. - If you're moving and issue an attack command without stopping, this
  144. will still consume 1 Stm, as it results in a brief interruption in the
  145. movement input.
  146. 1 | Start moving
  147. 1 | Normal attack
  148. 2 | Waza
  149. 3 | Magic
  150. 1 | Get hit (dmg>0)
  151. 1 | Die
  152.
  153. - Status ailments:
  154. - Stun: Unable to act for 2 seconds.
  155. - Poison: Lose 1/33 mHP periodically (both in battle and on the field).
  156. - Paralysis: Incapacitated.
  157. - Petrification: Incapacitated.
  158. - Silence: Unable to cast magic.
  159. - Instant Death (ID): Instant death.
  160.
  161. - An attack can't inflict an ailment if it deals no damage.
  162. - Incapacitated (killed, paralyzed or petrified) characters don't gain
  163. any Exp. Resting will not heal paralysis or petrification. You can't
  164. heal the HP or MP of a paralyzed character with magic, but they can't
  165. take damage either.
  166. - You can no longer switch weapons or characters during battle and you
  167. still can't enable or disable spells during battle.
  168. - The game uses the same Exp chart as SO1 and SO3.
  169.
  170. - You only have two slots for wazas (special techniques) this time. Some
  171. wazas behave differently depending on whether they're used at SR or LR.
  172. - Wazas have priority values that determine which one the AI will focus
  173. on using. (The actual mechanics of the prioritization are no doubt more
  174. nuanced than that, but this is the practical upshot.)
  175. - When the target is above the ground, the AI will ignore moves that
  176. don't have the "air flag." Some enemies that are merely floating a
  177. little above the ground are considered to be in the air, much to the
  178. detriment of the AI's performance.
  179. - If both moves have the same value, either both moves are used evenly
  180. or the first one takes priority (the latter mainly happens with high
  181. priority moves).
  182. - The AI will use normal attacks on a target whose current HP is low
  183. enough for the character to kill them in a single hit. If it's not
  184. quite that low, they'll use a lower priority waza instead.
  185. - A lower priority waza will also be used if the higher priority one
  186. deals no damage due to elemental resistance (Sword Bomber being an
  187. exception (likely an oversight)). Likewise, a lower priority move may
  188. be used if the enemy is weak to its element.
  189. - If the character's base damage is high enough, whatever move is in
  190. the first slot will be given priority. This won't happen with most moves
  191. with a value of 1 unless the damage is much higher than the threshold.
  192. The thresholds are roughly as seen below. If you're hovering just around
  193. the threshold, you can see both moves being used.
  194. 1000: Opera
  195. 2000: Chisato, Ernest
  196. 3300: Claude, Precis, Ashton, Bowman, Dias
  197. - Priority values seem to change with proficiency. The values I've
  198. listed are all based on max level waza.
  199. - If a character can't deal any damage to an enemy, they'll only use
  200. normal attacks.
  201. - Fighters will use healing moves when below 25%.
  202.
  203. - Rena's AI settings:
  204. 1. Cast healing spells only (when below 2/3 HP). Avoid the enemy.
  205. 2. Cast all types of spells. Heal when below 2/3 HP. Avoid the enemy.
  206. 3. Healing only. Heal when at or below 50% HP. Avoid the enemy.
  207. 4. Don't cast spells. Avoid the enemy.
  208. 5. Don't cast spells. Engage the enemy.
  209. 6. Do nothing.
  210. - The AI won't consider a character to be a valid target for a healing
  211. spell if their max HP is less than 2/3 of the spell's base power.
  212. - The AI will still not cast a multi-target healing spell instead of
  213. a single target spell if single target spells are disabled.
  214. - The AI will cast Growth on a fighter whose base damage is less than
  215. 1/16 of an enemy's HP (no attacks required)(takes Auto-Anger into account)
  216. (elemental resistance not taken into account).
  217. - The AI will cast Protection on a character if an enemy's base damage
  218. is more than 1/6 of the character's max HP (no attacks required)(special
  219. attacks with increased ATP are not taken into account).
  220. - Enemies usually target the character closest to them, but also have a
  221. habit of going after a character that damaged them. Keep that in mind
  222. when using offensive spells.
  223.
  224. - When choosing a blue target during battle, left and right let you
  225. scroll the characters in the order as seen in the status bar, whereas
  226. up and down use y-axis values. When choosing a hostile target, the
  227. cursor moves "visually."
  228. - The game does not prevent you from picking up items that you already
  229. have 20 of.
  230. - The Check accessories have been de-nerfed.
  231. - Characters reach 9999 HP between Lv100-110 and 999 MP around Lv180.
  232. - The game will use teal for unequipped items as if they were new.
  233. - New pieces of equipment are visible in teal in the equipment menu as
  234. well in v1.0, but not in later versions.
  235. - When shopping, pressing Confirm will now complete the transaction(s).
  236. You can still buy and sell at the same time.
  237. - The time it takes to escape from battle is 1 + 0,5(eLv - Lv) seconds,
  238. where eLv is the enemy's average level and Lv is your active party's
  239. average level. The time is 1s at minimum and 11s at maximum. Average
  240. enemy levels are included in the encounter list.
  241. - There's no way to turn off the music or voice acting. (I play the
  242. game on mute myself.)
  243. - If two spells are cast pretty much at the same time, it may produce
  244. a spell fusion effect, resulting in a more powerful spell. Regardless,
  245. magic is just not a good source of damage, so it doesn't really matter.
  246.
  247. - IC works pretty much the same way as it did in SO1, although it's
  248. now quite a bit slower, with each attempt taking about 9 seconds (you
  249. can hold Confirm to speed up the process in the PSOne Books version).
  250. Going through 19 items takes about 3 minutes (90 seconds with speed up).
  251. On the plus side, the game no longer takes you back to the IC menu after
  252. an attempt, which makes it easier to do IC with a character who isn't
  253. the best at the skill - although it's still slower than before because
  254. of the longer animation, but at least it requires less input. Also, if
  255. more than one character is the best at a skill, the game no longer chooses
  256. one in random, but instead selects the one at the highest slot number.
  257. - The amount of SP gained when leveling up is about the same as your
  258. level figure.
  259. - The amount of bonus SP gained when learning a new Talent is now 100.
  260. - Skill levels are no longer rounded up.
  261. - Some characters start with levels in some skills (even without having
  262. bought the sets that include those skills). However, the characters will
  263. not receive any of the stat bonuses you would normally receive from
  264. raising the skill to that level.
  265.
  266.
  267. Second Evolution
  268.
  269. - Second Evolution (SE) is still largely the same game. Here are some of
  270. the changes:
  271. × The screen is zoomed in, and areas that don't scroll on the x-axis
  272. have been stretched. All in all, the field visuals look worse, whereas
  273. the battle visuals look better.
  274. - Voice Collection is gone, replaced with the Voice Gallery, where you
  275. unlock all the character's voices by having them in your party when
  276. you beat the game. Beating the game also unlocks the higher difficulty
  277. levels.
  278. × Voice acting has been re-done and dialog is voiced.
  279. × Bug fixes (eg. no more crashing)
  280. × Fighters can do a combo with their normal attacks.
  281. × Characters are no longer interrupted if an enemy or another character
  282. is pushed on to them.
  283. × The Quick Change and AI Switch buttons are gone.
  284. × Four elements have been removed: Thunder, Star, Vacuum and Void.
  285. × Some spells have shorter animations.
  286. × Spell fusion is gone.
  287. × The battlefields are somewhat different and largely uniform (eg. the
  288. ones with more vertical space than horizontal space are gone).
  289. × In surprise encounters, your characters start off stunned.
  290. × The overworld camera doesn't pan automatically.
  291. × One new playable character.
  292. × The items in the game are largely the same, with the addition of Welch's
  293. weapons and the Umaibous.
  294. × Items are automatically sorted according to type.
  295. × The IC animation is different, and a single attempt is about 6s. It's
  296. faster than in v1.0 or v1.1, but still slower than in v1.2/1.3.
  297. × Kyouda, Chouhatsu and Float have been removed, while three new combat
  298. skills for mages have been added.
  299. × Piety only increases a random stat by 1.
  300. × The Energy Nede Snowfields encounter set is gone and along with it
  301. the three enemies exclusive to that encounter set (Saber Bunny, Snowman,
  302. Mount Snow).
  303. × The English version has plenty of name changes.
  304. × On the PS4, the game automatically highlights the least recent file
  305. in the save data screen. If you're doing two playthroughs at the same
  306. time, you need to be very careful when saving the game.
  307.
  308.
  309. Voice Collection
  310.
  311. - Similar to SO1, the game features a sound player, where you can listen
  312. to the voice clips you've triggered. There are 1279 voice clips in total.
  313. Each fighter has about 90 clips, whereas each mage (4) has about 120.
  314. There are 3 bosses who are also part of the collection (about 20 each).
  315. The collection displays each clip as being part of an image that may
  316. eventually start to resemble something if you're industrious enough.
  317. (Just look it up online if you don't have the patience.)
  318. - The collection isn't just there to prey on compulsive behavior; if
  319. you manage to get 50% (640) of the voices, you'll be given access to
  320. the higher difficulty levels, Galaxy and Universe. Getting 75% (959)
  321. gives you a music player, and 95% (1215) adds a visualizer effect to
  322. the image.
  323. - Unfortunately, the game doesn't provide a figure for how many clips
  324. you've obtained, and checking your collection is rather tedious, as you
  325. can only browse them in order, one by one. Getting from the beginning to
  326. the end takes 43 seconds.
  327. - It's also regrettable that the collection doesn't have its own save file.
  328. Instead, it relies entirely on the game save files on the memory cards.
  329. - Getting your collection even close to max is a colossal task, however,
  330. and I really wouldn't recommend trying unless you're *incredibly* motivated.
  331. Getting those rare alternate clips takes ages.
  332. - You can listen to an unobtained voice if there's an obtained voice
  333. adjacent to it. Just move the cursor immediately after hitting O.
  334. - Once you've gotten enough voices to unlock the extra difficulty levels,
  335. you'll see a message that says "Please back to the title. And choose
  336. "New Game.""
  337.
  338.
  339. Bugs
  340.
  341. - The game has bugs that cause crashing. Crashing can occur during battle,
  342. in the menu and during dialog. Hell, I've even gotten a crash when leaving
  343. the voice collection. Crashing in the menu is the least common, whereas,
  344. by far, the most common occurence of crashing is at the very end of a
  345. battle when the screen goes black. You may be able to reduce the chances
  346. of this occuring by avoiding unnecessary input at the end of a battle
  347. (don't even move the analog sticks). There are a couple of dungeons where
  348. crashing is much more common, but aside from that, it shouldn't be common.
  349. Crashing also seems less likely to occur on emulator.
  350. - Accessories that increase or decrease stats by a proportional figure
  351. are shown to only increase the base stat even though they actually affect
  352. the total figure. (It's not properly applied until you get into battle.)
  353. - When checking the Accuracy bonus of equipped gear at the start of battle,
  354. the game reads the Evade value instead. This renders any intended Accuracy
  355. bonus from all gear void, aside from proportional modifiers. Meanwhile, any
  356. gear that increases Evade by an absolute figure also increases Accuracy by
  357. the same figure (not visible in the menu).
  358. - The game is unable to turn off the echo multiplier (0,5) when using waza
  359. after using a normal attack (unless the echo hit misses in which case the
  360. multiplier isn't even used). [Fixed in v1.1]
  361. - If you change waza settings and leave the menu quickly, you won't have
  362. any encounters so long as you don't do anything that makes the game audibly
  363. seek something on the disc. The bug will also deactivate if you spend about
  364. half a second anywhere in the menu after setting a waza.
  365. - Opera's Heal Star won't heal the first character in the party nor will
  366. it power up from use, thus rendering the move completely worthless.
  367. [Fixed in v1.1]
  368. - When using Hop Step, Precis may jump hundreds of meters into the air
  369. if the enemy was above her.
  370. - If Ashton is set with Leaf Slash and Dead Triangle, Dead Triangle is
  371. likely to get bugged out, in which case trying to activate it will do
  372. nothing other than consume MP. When controlled by the AI, he'll just
  373. stand there and do nothing until he's out of MP. [Fixed in v1.1]
  374. - The AI does not acknowledge lowered MP costs. As a result, the AI won't
  375. use a move if the regular MP cost is higher than their current MP.
  376. - Some of the skill descriptions are incorrect in regards to the stat
  377. bonuses they provide.
  378. - Music bug: The tunes that are supposed to increase your stats during
  379. battle don't actually do anything *unless* you have Shugyou or Kaigan
  380. enabled. Turning on Shugyou for any reserve character is enough to resolve
  381. the issue,
  382. - Deep Mist is meant to decrease Accuracy, not Evade.
  383. - Hayate does nothing. Either that, or it's always in effect and does in
  384. fact increse movement speed, but only when executing an attack command.
  385. - Kikaisousa won't show up on your skill list unless you also have Kankaku 3.
  386. [Fixed in v1.1]
  387. - When checking Super Tokugi levels in the Skill menu, the game may show
  388. the skill levels of a former party member in an empty slot.
  389. - If Precis uses Barrier while poisoned, her sprite disappears momentarily.
  390. - The description of items and skills may become messed up.
  391. - If you revive / heal an incapacitated character after using the Escape
  392. command, the character will take minutes to run away.
  393. - Some voices simply cannot be obtained. Some of them are essentially beta
  394. leftovers, while some are just buggy. Eg. casting Ray as Rena produces
  395. Celine's Ray A clip (310), however it never gets flagged as obtained
  396. whether it's Rena or Celine who uses the clip. [Fixed in v1.1]
  397.
  398.
  399. New Game
  400.
  401. - You'll go through some settings when you start a new game, but you can

  405. of playing on a higher difficulty level (provided you have enough voices

  407. started.
  408. - Save files have no clear indicator as to what difficulty level they're

  517. - You should feint the Lizard Axes (by moving away, not sideways). After

  520. - If you input an attack command when you're close to the 'attack spot,'
  521. your character will make a little jump to the attack spot instead of using

  572. - Capital letters indicate areas with items.
  573. - [R] You are in a very vulnerable position, seeing as Rena is never
  574. really meant to do physical battle. The enemies can strike you down with
  575. ease. You should save between every battle at first.
  576. - [R] You've got Heal and you can also return to the mansion to rest.
  577. - [R] Here's how to handle the four enemy types found here:
  578. - Lizard Axe: You can avoid their attack by moving away, but you need
  579. to let them pretty close before they attack. After avoiding the attack,
  580. you *usually* have a safe window to hit them. Usually. Once you manage
  581. to land one hit, you might as well button mash to try to finish them
  582. off right away. (No need to feint them in SE, since you actually have
  583. them beat in attack speed.)
  584. - Chinke Thief. You can't avoid their attack. It's simply too fast (0,1s).
  585. Instead, you need to try to get the frame advantage to interrupt it.
  586. Do so by attacking when you're in one of the four positions seen below:
  587. If successful, the thief will back away instead of attacking, thus
  588. giving you the advantage (doesn't work in SE. You'll just have to tank
  589. it). They're not particularly aggressive, though, so you can often take
  590. them out without any resistance.
  591.
  592. R R
  593. T
  594. R R
  595.
  596. - Kobold: Approach them the same way as Lizard Axes.
  597. - Vorpal Bunny: These guys move by hopping around, thus triggering your
  598. jump attacks when they're in the air. Their attacks are easy to evade
  599. (the ranged rocket punch will just straight up miss you if you don't
  600. move closer (fixed in SE)), but they hit the hardest, so you can't afford
  601. as many mistakes or as much bad luck. Try to catch them with a jump attack
  602. when they're landing from a jump. Avoid situations where you might get
  603. hit by a rocket punch while attacking another bunny.
  604. - Hitting multiple enemies with a normal attack is technically possible,
  605. but very rare.
  606.
  607. [Boss]
  608. - 400 HP, 27 ATP, 0 Eva, 150 Exp, 500 Fol
  609. - Party: Rena, Claude. Maybe try to pincer him with both characters?
  610. - The ogre-type enemies' smack attack uses double ATP.
  611. - [R] On higher difficulty levels, the smack attack can kill Claude in a
  612. single hit. Do learn to avoid it. The regular attack is too fast to avoid,
  613. but he can easily survive that.
  614.

  618. - [R] Try to go upstairs, then try to go to the forest. After some more
  619. talking time, you'll find yourself on the world map.
  620.
  621.
  622. - Camera rotation on the world map is fixed to L1 and R1. You can toggle
  623. the map with Start.
  624. - [R] You'll want to set Claude as the default controlled character during
  625. battle (in the formation menu). Get him some levels to boost his DFP. (The
  626. controlled character is actually set to the position, not the character.)
  627. - [C] Rena will need some levels, although no amount of levels will ever
  628. allow her to survive for long if and when targeted.
  629. - Although Claude swings his sword horizontally, it doesn't really have
  630. any horizontal range. It's got some reach, though, so if the enemy lines
  631. up neatly, then, yeah, you can hit multiple enemies, but, otherwise, no.

  673. - Go to the castle. Once you're allowed to explore the place, just talk

  675. - As you're heading out of town, Celine will join your party (you can
  676. try to decline, but she won't take no for an answer). She's one of the
  677. two offensive mages in the game. However, you'll likely find her to be
  678. of more use in Item Creation and possibly stealing. At the end of Cross
  679. Cave, you'll need to decide whether to keep her in your party or not. If
  680. you're not planning on keeping her, make sure you get the most out of her
  681. brief stay. Max out her Asobigokoro (see below), craft some accessories
  682. (Silver Rings, Emerald Rings), and create some minerals for elemental
  683. resistance.
  684. - Celine's default spells: Firebolt, Wind Blade, Thunderbolt.
  685. - Talents Celine can easily learn (if she doesn't start with them):
  686. Originality, Kiyou na Yubisaki, Design Sense, Rhythm Kan, Onkan and
  687. Yasei no Kan.
  688. - Grinding for Talents will likely feel less tedious if you have something
  689. playing in the background (Hololive, perhaps?).
  690. - [C] You could now get a unique accessory called Leaf Pendant by doing
  691. a couple of PAs in Salva. It increases DFP by 30%, which is nice, but it
  692. can only be equipped by mages, so I wouldn't bother. You might be more
  693. interested in the +3 RP you get.
  694. - [C] There's a PA in Arlia with Celine that also gives you +3 RP.
  695.
  696. - Head to the harbor town of Harley, at the east end of the continent.
  697. You'll pass by the town of Mars on your way. Near Mars is Cross Cave,
  698. your next main story destination.
  699. - Some people like to level up in the Rasgus Mountains (west of Cross)
  700. at this point in the game, but I really wouldn't recommend that. There's
  701. just no need.
  702. - If you run into a Robber Axe, run away.
  703. - Don't forget: block rate = (Eva - Accuracy)/255. You can always avoid
  704. blocks by hitting the enemy from behind. Increasing your Dex will boost
  705. your base Accuracy, but any intended Accy bonus from gear is moot thanks
  706. to the Accuracy bug (unless it's proportional, eg. Feet Symbol).

  726. × Sentou Lv1: Kikou, Kyuushonerai, Kyouda, Cancel, [Trance].
  727.
  728. - Konjou costs only 8 SP per level and decreases the SP cost of all
  729. skills by 2 points per level. Doryoku in SO1 was a worthwhile investment
  730. in the long run, but this one offers an even greater benefit, and faster.
  731. - Raising Asobigokoro gives you money (a total of 100 000 Fol from the
  732. 10 levels).
  733. - The Touzoku Tebukuro is required to use the Pickpocket skill, which
  734. allows you to steal items from any characters you can talk to (including
  735. your own party members). Doing so has a small chance of lowering FP,
  736. however (no, stealing during PAs doesn't help). It can even affect PCs
  737. that haven't joined you yet.
  738. - You only get one attempt at stealing per character (if a character
  739. appears in more than one location, that's considered a different instance).
  740. If you were to aim at zero failures, you'd have to spend quite a bit of
  741. time loading the game and retrying. However, the *overwhelming* majority
  742. of items obtained through stealing are of little to no consequence and
  743. can be obtained more easily some other way. As such, I do *not* recommend
  744. wasting much of your time using the skill. I'll make note of the few
  745. items I do consider worth picking up.
  746. - Unless the character has Kiyou na Yubisaki, Pickpocket will never
  747. succeed. You can learn it through Saiku, but only Celine has that at
  748. this point in the game. Other characters won't be able to learn it
  749. until you reach the next continent (after Monshou no Mori).
  750. - There are two ways to easily get the money for the Touzoku Tebukuro:
  751. 1. Increase Asobigokoro
  752. 2. Create Silver Charms (10k) and Silver Piasus (7,5k) with Celine.

  792. don't hesitate to just let it go. If you're determined to get it, get
  793. your Pickpocket to at least Lv8. And you *will* need that Dexterity on
  794. your main. Otherwise, forget it.
  795. - You *will* need to trigger the event with Philia if you want to be
  796. able to fight the stronger version of the final boss. (There's another
  797. event you still need to trigger later, so this one alone has no impact.)
  798.
  799. - Right, so, if you're not planning on keeping Celine, have her do some

  843. Arrow), and they're not really going to get any more useful. While the
  844. base values for spell damage are hovering around the same figures as
  845. before, the problem is that enemies have a lot more HP this time. Even
  846. if you do keep her, it's recommended that you replace her with a physical
  847. attacker. If you want to use her in Renkin, you'll need to keep leveling
  848. her up for some time to get it to max (and don't forget that you can't

  983. - Bowman isn't available until after the events in Lacour. You can

  985. - Get Precis's Machinery to Lv6 or so, so you can create an Iron Punch.
  986. Use it to create a Great Punch (Lv5 Customize is enough). Whether or not
  987. you got Precis, you'll want to use Machinery to create IC support items.
  988. Seeing as the kits are a bit pricey, I'd give it 5 tries before reloading
  989. (unless you're missing only a few items).
  990. - If you want more money, this is the stuff that's worth the most:
  991. Sankaku Flask, Gensobunsekiki, Graphic Tool, RIRICA, Survival Kit (for
  992. some reason, the Magician Hand is considered less valuable than the
  993. Touzoku Tebukuro)
  994. - Note that the IC menu wraps, so to get to Machinery, you only have to
  995. press up.
  996. - If you're planning on getting Opera as well, there's no need to try
  997. and create all of the support items right away.
  998. - You can also start making affinity books now, if you have any use for
  999. those. Don't forget that the effect applies in one direction only. Eg.
1000. using Claude's RP book on Precis sets Precis' RP towards Claude to 8,
1001. while Claude's RP towards Precis is unaffected. This is just an example,
1002. by the way. Precis already starts with 8 RP towards Claude. If the value

1253. - The large lizards are among the most dangerous enemies in the game.
1254. If you're prevented from being pushed back, their breath attack will
1255. repeatedly hit you at an incredibly high rate. You can easily avoid it
1256. when in manual control, but the AI-controlled characters won't stay
1257. standing for long, not on a battlefield this small. Aside from that,
1258. there's their normal attack, which is simply too fast to evade (at
  1259. least without double speed).

1271. - Both Precis and Opera have some battle skills that they can only learn

  1305. - 10 000 HP, 80 Eva, 333 ATP, W:TL, I:V, 12 600 Exp, 21 000 Fol
1306. - Normally I would advise you to run away from the slug-type enemies, but
1307. since this is a boss, you don't have that option. The reason I would tell
1308. you to avoid these enemies should quickly become apparent. Any character
1309. that gets close to them is very likely to end up eaten and thus incapacitated.
1310. If all characters get eaten, it's game over. Each slug can only hold one

1341. - Link Combo has been brutally nerfed. It requires an accessory slot,

1662. × Mythril Dress (Myt): Rena
1663. × Mythril Shield (Myt): Claude, Ernest, Dias
1664. × Jeanne Shield (Mn): Precis, Chisato
1665. × Star Greaves (Met): All fighters who don't have Bunny Shoes
1666. × Star Guard (Met): Opera, Ashton, Bowman
1667. × Witch Boots (Mn): Rena
1668. - Once you have the Rasp, you should get these:
1669. × Duel Suit (Dam): Claude, Ashton, Dias
1670. × Sylvan Mail (Met): Chisato, Precis, Opera
1671. × Mirage Robe (RM): Rena
1672. × Duel Helm (Dam): Claude, Ashton, Bowman, Ernest, Dias
1673. × Pallas Athena (Myt): Claude, Precis, Ernest, Dias
1674. - With these, you can finally let go of the Check accessories for most
1675. characters. You'll want to replace them with Berserk Rings, Atlas Rings
1676. and Might Chains. Opera and Ashton can't get immunity to Paralysis from
1677. anything other than the accessory, but having one character vulnerable
1678. to it is no big deal. As already mentioned, Bowman gets the short end
1679. of the stick, as he can't equip a single piece of armor that would
1680. protect him from Paralysis or Petrification.
1681. × The Atlas Ring makes you weak to all elements, but this should only
  1682. occasionally become an issue.
1683. × The Sylvan Mail has Wgt +2, which helps reduce hitstun a little.
1684. - When using Blacksmith, I usually give it two tries before I load the
  1685. game.

  1693.
1694. - The Bunny Shoes double your movement speed.
1695. - You can get more Bunny Shoes from the Bunny Races. Forget the stats.
1696. Just bet on the shoes whenever they show up. The odds aren't that good,
1697. so if it feels too tedious, just move on.
  1698.
1699. - The arena (tougijou) has four modes: Duel Battle, Bullying Battle,
1700. Team Battle and Survival Battle.
  1701.
1702. × Duel Battle involves fighting 4 battles one-on-one. You can win each
1703. prize once with each character. If you've already won an item with a
1704. specific character, you'll get a cash prize of 10 000 Fol instead.
  1705.
1706. × Bullying Battle involves fighting 3 groups of enemies with a single
  1707. character.
  1708.
1709. × Team Battle involves fighting up to 5 one-on-one battles with up to
1710. 5 different characters. It ends once you've either won or lost 3 matches.
1711. The enemies are fought in random order except for the fifth one. A
1712. single character can be chosen more than once but not in consecutive
1713. battles. If a character chosen more than once falls, they'll be revived
1714. with 1 HP in their next battle. If a character is paralyzed or petrified,
1715. they will not be healed and thus will inevitably lose their subsequent
1716. matches. You can get the prizes 3 times.
  1717.
1718. × Survival Battle involves fighting 50 battles with a single character.
1719. The reward is the Fortune accessory (Unique). I've never actually gotten
1720. it myself, though. Dias with Air Slash is probably your best shot (if you
  1721. have him).
  1722.
1723. - Like before, you'll be provided with a few healing items (as seen below)

1763. Ericoduses aren't too good. Even with it, characters with low Con (such
1764. as Chisato) will need a little luck.
1765. - Reflect Guarders can be tricky, but they'll occasionally just wander
1766. around giving you a chance to hit them in the back. The following wazas
1767. also work: Barrier, Bloody Mary, Kabutowari (from an angle), Dead Triangle.
1768. - Dragon Axes will only attack you if you attack them or get close to them.
1769. - Foragers will likely block all of your frontal attacks. If they're

2086. - DO NOT PRESS THE SWITCH IN g3! Doing so will permanently shut the
  2087. door to G8.
  2088. - *: I believe it's read Kouro, but I'm not sure.
  2089.
  2090. [Boss] (i8) FWTIESULDV
  2091. - 300 000 HP, 900 DFP, 460 Eva, 1533 ATP, 5900 MP IIIRIIIRR
  2092. - 460 000 Exp, 80 000 Fol
2093. - Horobi no Kaze is Wind-elemental and hits all characters at 3,5x
2094. damage. You have a small fraction of a second to interrupt it. His
2095. normal attack is Thunder-elemental. He can cast Word of Death (no clips,
2096. it would seem) and Demon's Gate (3500 pod, V). Might take a while before
2097. he uses Demon's Gate. Set your fighters on Manual and just wait.
2098. - Since he's a floater, the AI won't be using anything you want it to
2099. use (except for Opera). You can remedy that by constantly switching
2100. between two (or maybe even three) characters. [This has been changed
2101. in the PSP version, which makes things so much easier.]
2102. - He's got 23 clips as well. 17 of them are easy. There could be more
2103. unobtainables than the ones I've listed.
  2104.
  2105. [Boss] (l4)
  2106. - 500 000 HP, 450 DFP, 350 Eva, 1267 ATP, 704 Mov, 10 000 MP
2107. - His normal attack is Star-elemental and deals 3x damage.
2108. - Divine Wave is a ripple that hits multiple times at 0,5x damage. He
2109. uses it a lot, which is unfortunate, seeing as a single one will quickly
2110. kill any characters that come into contact with it. Try jumping over them.
2111. - Shinkyoku hits all characters at 3,5x damage.
2112. - Spells: Star Flare, Noah, Southern Cross, Explode, Earthquake, Curse,
2113. Angel Feather, Fairy Heal (8440 HP). (2500 Mag)
  2114. - Star Flare: 4000 pod, L
  2115. - Noah: 4100 pod, W
  2116. - Southern Cross: 7000 pod, S
  2117. - Explode: 13 000 pod, F
  2118. - Earthquake: 13 000 pod, E
2119. - Phase 1: Divine Wave, Star Flare, Noah, Fairy Heal
  2120. - Phase 2 (below 2/3 HP): + rest & float status
2121. - Phase 2 won't actually start until he's used Time of Truth. You have a
2122. very small window for interrupting it, so if you just keep him stunlocked,
2123. he'll never get to use it.
2124. - He can cast spells while moving.
2125. - Stun bombs don't seem to work.
  2126.
  2127.
2128. - The dialog during the second part of the ending runs automatically,
2129. although you can speed it up with manual input.
  2130.
2131. - After using the final save point, you can return to Expel by talking
2132. to an old man at the arena in Fun City.
2133. - If you do a Private Action in Central City, there's an event you can
2134. trigger in Narl's office that will make the final boss even harder than
2135. he already is. This process is irreversible and I do *not* recommend it.
  2136.
  2137. -- Arlia --
  2138.
2139. Theft: Santa Boots (little kid)
  2140.
2141. - To return to Energy Nede, talk to the penguin and choose the 2nd option.
2142. - None of the optional characters can join you anymore at this point. That
  2143. bridge has sailed.
  2144.
2145. - There's an optional dungeon (Shiren no Doukutsu (Cave of Trials)) on
  2146. the southwest island.
  2147.
  2148.
  2149.
  2150.
  2151. End of file.
