Why I think Souma in Food Wars V1-2 is great!

please don't tell me anything that happens after the first 14 chapters, as I wanna be surprised.

Anyways, here's why I think this Souma is such a great character.

I like the idea of the unexpected genius. In the first Chapter we got this character who can't really seem to pull off a great meal like his dad can at first, but then he pulls it off with basic, cheap ingredients when he's pushed to stop goofing off, and take things seriously because something important to him is on the line, and because he's pushed, he makes a dish that's so good that it blows people away in a hilarious way! And these are people that think that he's worthless and will resort to nothing because he comes from lower class.

And then his dad ups the stakes even more by sending him to a prestigious school that he'll get kicked from if he makes any big mistakes, which just encourages him to take making a great dish even more seriously, and make even better dishes, which inspires him to be super crafty about it, all while using cheaper ingredients. He believes that if you just limit yourself to really expensive ingredients you can only go so far, and he proves it, which of course pisses off rich snobs, which I absolutely love!

Then in the second volume he finds others like him that love to make great dishes out of cheap ingredients, and it's like he finally found some people that understand him, and they become his friends. It's really great. And of course on top of that you've got the fact that it's just a really funny manga with really hot looking people in it.
