Paula Smith is a sole parent with two children. She lives in a three bedroom unit in Port Melbourne. One night in the depths of wintery Melbourne, she is fast asleep, when a masked intruder breaks into the unit. Without disturbing anyone, he enters the main bedroom where he finds Paula fast asleep. He places a hand over Paula’s mouth and wakes her. She is frightened out of her wits, but doesn’t make a sound because she does not want the children disturbed for fear the unknown intruder may hurt them. The male intruder then has a whispered conversation with Paula and inquires whether she would like to have sex with him. Shaking, and visibly upset, she nods her head. He then gives Paula a sex toy (a vibrator) and tells her to use it upon her own body, while he stands there, and masturbates. Paula uses the sex object, moving it over her breasts and vagina, and when requested to do so, she places it in her mouth. She uses the object to penetrate her vagina. The intruder then ejaculates over her, before fleeing. A 26 year old man is arrested two weeks later by police and confesses to the break-in.
