  1. 96 Shines beginner route by labmemb3r
  2. This route is intended to mimic SB's 120 beginner route, so that runners who have just started 120 can also give this category a try without having to adjust too much compared to what they are familiar with. Some personal notes included, but at the end of the day, go with what you're most comfortable with!
  3.
  4. ----- 1st half -----
  5. Delfino Airstrip
  6.
  7. Bianco I
  8. - Bianco 2

  13. Gelato I
  14. - Gelato 8
  15. - Gelato 7
  16. - Beach Shine (note: SB puts this here for now. Beach shine is normally done with Gelato unlock at the risk of softlocking the game and is not recommended for beginners. If you do beach shine with Gelato unlock, move GBS and Gelato 7 after Noki I)
  17.
  18. Pianta I
  19. - Pianta 1 (note: after beach shine, you will be booted out in front of Bianco. Use the sewer near Noki entrance to get up to shine gate)
  20. - Pianta 2
  21. - Pianta 3
  22. - Pianta 4
  23. - Pianta 5
  24. - Pianta 6

  26.
  27. Pinna I
  28. - Pinna 1
  29. - Pinna 2
  30. - Pinna 2 Reds (note: since the next event cutscene is Yoshi, it is faster to scroll back here while there are no event cutscenes)
  31. - Pinna 3
  32. - Pinna 4
  33. - Pinna 5 (don't do EYG!)
  34. - Pinna 6
  35. - Pinna 7
  36.
  37. Ricco I
  38. - Ricco 1
  39. - Ricco 2

  44. - Ricco 7
  45.
  46. Bianco II
  47. - Bianco 6
  48. - Bianco 7

  53. - Sirena 2
  54. - Sirena 3

  62. - Noki 2
  63. - Noki 3
  64. - Noki 4
  65. - Noki 5
  66. - Noki 6
  67. - Noki 7
  68.
  69. ----- 2nd half -----
  70. Huge note: 2nd half can normally be broken down into sections, most of which can be done in any order. This is because nearly every section ends with a Delfino shine which boots Mario out in front of Bianco. These sections are:
  71. A. Delfino I (always goes first)
  72. B. Gelato II and Slide Pipe
  73. C. Bianco III
  74. D. Ricco II, Pinna II, and Grass Pipe
  75. E. Sirena II and Left Bell
  76. F. Noki II, Pianta II, and Corona (always goes last)
  77. Recommended order for beginners mimicking SB's route is given below. However, feel free to re-order segments B, C, D, and E based on personal preference, as some runners will want to get certain sections of the run out of the way compared to others.
  78.
  79. Delfino I
  80. - Box Game 1 (note: enter and immediately exit corona. enter the sewer outside Corona and pick up the 10 coins to pay the boat man)
  81. - Box Game 2
  82. - Airstrip Reds (pick up 99 coins here - no more, no less!)
  83. - Delfino 100s (spray the open window near the banana tree to spawn the last coin)
  84. - Pachinko (Pachinko has an extra coin at the loading zone so you don't spawn the 100 coin shine twice)
  85. - Chuckster
  86. - Police station (turbo)
  87. - "Underbell" (turbo door under left bell tower)
  88. - Gold Bird (turbo)
  89. - Right Bell (rocket)
  90. - Lighthouse (rocket)
  91. - Shine Gate (rocket)
  92.
  93. Gelato I
  94. Note: SB's order is given below. Most of Gelato can be done in any order, however Gelato 5 must be done before 100s, 4, and 6. I would also recommend that 5 is done before 2 for the rocket nozzle.
  95. - Gelato 5 (unlock rocket and turbo nozzles during the race)
  96. - Gelato 4 (collect rocket before entering sand bird area)
  97. - Gelato 3 100s
  98. - Gelato 3
  99. - Gelato 6 Hidden (shine pattern in the sand)
  100. - Gelato 6 (turbo)
  101. - Gelato 2 (rocket)
  102. - Gelato 1
  103. - Gelato 1 Reds
  104. - Slide Pipe
  105. Note: some shines from Delfino I can be moved here, as you will be booted out in front of Bianco regardless.
  106.
  107. Bianco III
  108. Note: these shines can be done in any order. SB's order is given below, but I recommend doing Bianco 8 and 100s first.
  109. - Bianco 1
  110. - Bianco 8
  111. - Bianco 6 100s
  112. - Bianco 6 Reds
  113. - Bianco 3 Reds (enter episode 8)
  114.
  115. Ricco II
  116. Note: Ricco 100s must be done before Ricco 8 to unlock the rocket nozzle box under the helicopter platform for episode 8 (in fact I prefer to do Ricco 100s first). Ricco 2H and 4R can be moved around in any order.
  117. - Ricco 2 Hidden
  118. - Ricco 4 Reds
  119. - Ricco 3 100s
  120. - Ricco 8
  121.
  122. Pinna II
  123. Note: SB order given below, but can be done in any order (except grass pipe which must go last).
  124. - Pinna 6 Reds
  125. - Pinna 8
  126. - Pinna 8 100s
  127. - Grass Pipe
  128. Note: some shines from Delfino I can be moved here, as you will be booted out in front of Bianco regardless.
  129.
  130. Sirena II
  131. Note: SB order given below, but can be done in any order (left bell last). I would recommend doing Sirena 100s and maybe Sirena 2R first.
  132. - Sirena 8
  133. - Sirena 4 Reds
  134. - Sirena 2 Reds
  135. - Sirena 7 100s
  136. - Left Bell
  137. Note: some shines from Delfino I can be moved here, as you will be booted out in front of Bianco regardless.
  138.
  139. Noki II
  140. Note: SB order given below, but can be done in any order. I would recommend doing Noki 100s and maybe Noki 6R first.
  141. - Noki 8
  142. - Noki 2 100s
  143. - Noki 6 Reds
  144. - Noki 7 Hidden
  145.
  146. Pianta II
  147. Note: SB order given below, but can be done in any order. I would recommend doing Pianta 8 and maybe Pianta 100s first.
  148. - Pianta 8 Hidden
  149. - Pianta 8
  150. - Pianta 5 100s
  151. - Pianta 5 Reds
  152.
  153. Corona and Bowser
