Driven by the loss of his best friend, the Ostrich Wizard dedicated his studies to the dark arts.

In an attempt to correct an injustice, he poured over the forbidden tomes, looking for a way to cheat death.

The brain is his own. He permanently projected himself into the astral plane and realized the only way he could anchor himself was by leaving the last physical remnant behind, his mind. Free of all earthly desires he devotes himself to the study of magic to find the secret to reconstituting life. But cosmic irony strikes, as abandoning the mortal realm also meant he couldn't expand his comprehension further. Thus he requires you, an aid, to bring him what he needs to know and he demands this of you with incredible aggression. However, with no corporeal body, he is now susceptible to the great currents of magic's flow. Thus every now and then he is stolen away by the sea of the arcane. Though these stints are short for him, he has no concept of time, nor does he have any choice in the matter. Leaving you to ruminate over the downfall of his life, and the cause of his insanity.
