  1. Perhaps I had been too hasty. Perhaps, like everyone else, I was anxious and let go of the dream that sustained me until now.
  2.
  3. I've been told life isn't just about surviving--it's about thriving. I say only the privileged are given the luxury of thriving. As for those who can barely reach the surface of the water with their fingertips, all they can do is keep running until they burn out. We know nothing else. The flowers we're supposed to stop and smell? They're all a blur of colors in our peripheral vision.
  4.
  5. However, I'd be a liar if I said I didn't long to not only smell them, but to touch them and embrace their beauty. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't wish to also thrive. I believe this feeling of wanting more isn't always greed. In this universal genetic code of ours, I believe there's a gap. To fill it, we dream; we dream through our years of youth and even into the start of our adulthood. Then somewhere along the way, we give up. Reality pays a visit, and brings to light the truth we knew all along.
  6.
  7. The dream never entirely disappears. It makes its home in the back of our minds, knocking every now and then, as if reminding us what we could have been. Ha. What we could have been? What I could have been? Without a steady job, I could have ended up relying on loans that would take years to pay off. I could be living the lowest life there was to live. But no, I'm doing just fine thanks to me letting go of it. At least, that's what I tell myself.
