Derrick Kurtz

The following is known to anyone who bothers to ask:
Unlike most Casts, Derrick was created by a human who studied Kajhiit technology. The man attempted to force Derrick to do his evil bidding, but Derrick escaped.

He harbors a resentment toward magic-users because Casts are, as of yet, magicless. His origins caused him to wonder if there are yet heroes left in man.

The following is unknown to the party and those who don't have inside knowledge:
The person who created Derrick infected him with a virus that only effects Casts. Now commonly known as the Seed Crisis Syndrome (though Cast government has been trying to keep it under wraps) this virus causes Casts to become violently irrational. Derrick is fortunately unaware of his unwilling involvement in spreading the virus.

Derrick was captured by Cast enforcers and was turned over to the government. They determined that he was just insane and should be locked away. Somehow, whether by fortitude or divine will (not that Casts believe in such things) Derrick came around and rid his body and mind of the virus while in captivity.

Derrick was released on good behavior 8 years later. Since then he's been trying to control the outbreak of the Syndrome, but has been largely unsuccessful. Since there haven't been any breakthroughs and he's had little luck, he's been a bit down recently. Derrick puts on a nonchalant demeanor but is confused and frightened by the rapid downfall of his race.

He believes that the best way to deal with the Syndrome is for him to destroy the infected casts and take their metal for himself. After he has collected the metals of a significant amount of Casts, he intends to dismantle himself and surrender all the metal to be reforged into other Casts so that his race might live on.
