  1. You turn your mind to the strange arts of death and the cold chill of the grave. A mist billows about you as you glimpse the eventual decay of Gurashi.
  2.
  3. The chill of the grave sinks into your bones as the mist envelops you. For a moment, you glimpse your own death and the fragility of all things. As it passes, you find yourself in another location.
  4.
  5. Within a rosy crescent-shaped study.
  6. The rippling sound of flowing celestial waters echoes distantly from a healing shrine of Lantra nearby. This location is flooded with shallow, crystal clear water. Billowing from the walls of this compact study are smooth, silky curtains of a deep rouge hue. In contrast to the training hall to the west, many oval windows on the arched ceiling have been partially opened to allow a breath of cool air to circulate around the room. Occupying both corners of the crescent-shaped space are golden paper lanterns, which light up the small alcove wedged in the middle to allow for literary endeavors. Mounted on the apex of the room is a crystal skylight, providing a surreal view of the ever-shifting sky. Gurashi croons a soulful melody here, their eyes closed and their voice warbling. They wield a vibrant mandolin of songbirds and stars in their right hand.
  7. You see a single exit leading west.
  8.
  9. Gurashi doesn't so much as flinch as you arrives, head bowed, singing quietly to themselves as they write carefully and consistently in their book.
  10.
  11. You have emoted: Esei looks around for a moment, black eyes scanning the study for a moment as if searching for something, before their gaze rests on Gurashi entirely instead.
  12.
  13. Pale pastel colors dance in the air around the sileni as they sing, as if someone had set a prism somewhere in the center of the room.
  14.
  15. Gurashi closes their eyes and takes a deep breath before releasing a soulful melody, crooning unabashedly to no one in particular.
  16.
  17. You have emoted: Esei's nostrils flare minutely.
  18.
  19. Gurashi tilts their head to the side as they seamlessly flip the page, scribbling immediately on the next section, their short tail wagging. Their voice rises pleasantly, then dips again, now a hum as they work.
  20.
  21. Tiny, distant pinpricks of light cut through the storm-seething sky like the beads of Night's gown, lost briefly in a riotous eruption of silver-bright lightning.
  22.
  23. The pointed tips of your ears twitch to hear an errant sound.
  24.
  25. You blink.
  26.
  27. Gurashi sways a little, pausing in their writing on the page to write in the air, as if conducting their wordless song.
  28.
  29. You reach to your sense of the many wyrden songs and begin to softly hum a low, dark tune. Your heart beats in tune with the Wyrd's melodies, soothing your spirit and calming your mind.
  30.
  31. The soft lambency of passing hummingbirds filters in from outside, shedding light on a dark night.
  32.
  33. Gurashi croons still, seeming to instinctively harmonize with your offered tune as they hum as well, tail no longer wagging.
  34.
  35. You ponder the situation.
  36.
  37. [becomes a sileni]
  38.
  39. You have emoted: Esei sticks out a leg as if stretching it, shaking out their shoulders as they turn to look at Gurashi.
  40.
  41. Gurashi continues to pay zero mind to you as they continue to fill the page, clearly focused.
  42.
  43. You have emoted: Esei's crystalline hooves click softly across the floor as they attempt to sneakily approach Gurashi.
  44.
  45. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...Gurashi."
  46.
  47. Gurashi closes their eyes and takes a deep breath before releasing a soulful melody, crooning unabashedly to no one in particular.
  48.
  49. Gurashi continues to seem utterly oblivious, if not entranced by their work.
  50.
  51. You have emoted: Esei reaches out to gently brush Gurashi's ear, petting the very tip of it with their fingers.
  52.
  53. Distant and muffled voices filter in from outside.
  54.
  55. Suddenly the colors shift and suck inward, pulling back into the sileni as they are touched.
  56.
  57. Gurashi jumps, looks at you with wide-eyes, hand flying to their heart. "OHMYGOSH."
  58.
  59. You have emoted: Esei blinks their big eyes innocently.
  60.
  61. Gurashi covers their face.
  62.
  63. Muffled, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "W...as workings."
  64.
  65. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "S...sorry..."
  66.
  67. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...I saw that."
  68.
  69. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "You do not need to stop, if you do not want to?"
  70.
  71. A sense of purpose and pride for the Glomdoring swells within you as a three-finger ring bearing an amethyst scythe pulses against your hand.
  72.
  73. Gurashi seems dazed. "I...I..."
  74.
  75. You tilt your head curiously at Gurashi.
  76.
  77. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "I... would like to keep working, yes," They confess. "New Celest has so many wonderful places to work. I likes to sits in them, when I writes," They explain. "This chapters is going well. The final one."
  78.
  79. Gurashi warbles tiredly.
  80.
  81. You nod your head slowly in understanding.
  82.
  83. Tiredly, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "How're you! How're you?"
  84.
  85. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "I am alright."
  86.
  87. Distant and muffled voices filter in from outside.
  88.
  89. Suddenly, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says to you, "I am sorry I was so stupid and ignorant, be-fore. I did not realize when the Lady Amberle was lost, how many other Elders got caught up in the massacres." They frown. "Tridemon told me a little abouts it. How there are no Others named? No wonder you have seemed so troubled. I am sorry, for not knowing better."
  90.
  91. You have emoted: Esei shrugs, and then stops, sighing so faintly it could be considered an exhale.
  92.
  93. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says to you, "Tridemon said the Mister Lord Silence and Lady Empyreals might have lost Their creche's 'First' in that fight. Might explain what you meant."
  94.
  95. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...it just makes more sense now. It already did, before. But it makes more sense now."
  96.
  97. Gurashi's tail wags rapidly. "It is sad. It is a sad thing."
  98.
  99. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "Not might. Did."
  100.
  101. Gurashi looks at you hopefully.
  102.
  103. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend asks, "They did? He did?"
  104.
  105. Gurashi stares at you, gaze softening and frowning at you as their expression fills with concern.
  106.
  107. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "I am sorry."
  108.
  109. You blink.
  110.
  111. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...why are you saying sorry to me for?"
  112.
  113. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend exclaims, "Because it is sad!"
  114.
  115. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "It is a painful thing!"
  116.
  117. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "And I have been not so very kindly or sensitives."
  118.
  119. Gurashi turns forward to their book. "I am trying to be better and more not-stupid."
  120.
  121. Gurashi nods their head sagely.
  122.
  123. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "Keep the informations... in."
  124.
  125. Shadows swirl around your arm as the Fingerblade of dha'Wyrden-cree digs itself more painfully into your finger.
  126.
  127. Gurashi presses their hands to either side of their face, as if holding the information in place.
  128.
  129. Softly, you say, "I suppose the information was just... different to me. Than the rest of His, or maybe Hers, if She has said, because..."
  130.
  131. You have emoted: Esei gives Gurashi a meaningful look.
  132.
  133. Gurashi tilts their head and listens intently to you.
  134.
  135. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...surely you remember His lesson on pain and compassion, about Amberle's folly?"
  136.
  137. Gurashi frowns, their tail still once more. "How could I forget? Of course remember."
  138.
  139. You let loose a long breath from your lungs, exhaling slowly.
  140.
  141. Finally sitting on the ground near Gurashi, you whisper, "...that is why it feels different to me, I suppose."
  142.
  143. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "To learn that is how He lost Someone..."
  144.
  145. Quietly, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "Nobody could have known how very terribly it would go..."
  146.
  147. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...Gurashi, They pleaded with Amberle to come back, but She insisted on doing it one more time."
  148.
  149. You let out a soft sigh.
  150.
  151. Gurashi glances askance.
  152.
  153. Gurashi nods their head sagely.
  154.
  155. Looking up, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "It was terrible. Is all."
  156.
  157. Gurashi looks down to their book, puffing their cheeks.
  158.
  159. You shake your head.
  160.
  161. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...I suppose it does not matter much to you anymore."
  162.
  163. Frowning, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "Of course it matters. I feel badly for Everybody involved, yes yes."
  164.
  165. You think to yourself: ** the stretching pit that already separates them from those they lost to the Light, and elsewhere... "Come home," whispers a soft, petulant part of themself, getting smaller and tireder with each passing day. **.
  166.
  167. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "It was awful. It was terrible."
  168.
  169. Gurashi fidgets impatiently.
  170.
  171. Softly, you whisper, "...yes."
  172.
  173. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...have you considered asking Her about it?"
  174.
  175. Beginning to write again, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "A little. Maybe another times."
  176.
  177. You hum thoughtfully.
  178.
  179. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "Alright."
  180.
  181. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "I would not want to cause Her more pains, or distractions. Not while She is healing the Lady of Lagoons especially."
  182.
  183. Gurashi hums softly.
  184.
  185. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...how are you?"
  186.
  187. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "Wet?"
  188.
  189. Gurashi lifts their head, pausing. "I am fine." They consider this. "Yes, wet." Then, they resume writing, tail wagging.
  190.
  191. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "Everybody is wet."
  192.
  193. You ponder the situation.
  194.
  195. Your hands begin to glow with scalding warmth and you pass them over the surface of your body, removing the dirt and grime covering you.
  196. Your hands begin to glow with scalding warmth and you pass them over the surface of Gurashi's body, removing the dirt and grime covering them.
  197.
  198. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "Not anymore. Well. Not yet."
  199.
  200. Gurashi blinks.
  201.
  202. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "Ah - oh, many thank yous!"
  203. Gurashi quickly bends at the waist to offer a polite half-bow.
  204. Gurashi coughs softly.
  205.
  206. Gurashi bows their head, tail wagging wildly. "That is better," They look over themselves. "Clothes were wet..."
  207.
  208. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...unfortunately they will simply... get wet again."
  209.
  210. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "That is O-k."
  211.
  212. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "I will deal with it, then. I can always take my clothes off at home or change."
  213.
  214. Gurashi hums softly to themself.
  215.
  216. You have emoted: Esei pauses, staring at Gurashi for a long moment before looking away.
  217.
  218. You think to yourself: ** "I miss you," they want to say, softly, the words burbling in their heart, in their throat, even though the other changeling is right there in front of them. "You were my brother. I loved you," they want to rage, they want to weep, the words echoing hollowly through their mind, bounding off pillars of black crystal. **.
  219.
  220. Gurashi's ears twitch in tandem, and they slowly look at you, furrowing their brow, their shoulders bunching. "....you act like I have died," They say weakly. "Like I am not right here."
  221.
  222. Fluttering as if caught by a breeze, the silver threads of tinsel draped along Gurashi's wreath weave about in a haphazard pattern: conjuring new constellations and shapes as they glow from the sidereal light of the ornament's fine filaments.
  223.
  224. Softly, looking away with a faintly melancholic expression, you whisper, "...are you?"
  225.
  226. Light radiates from Gurashi's heart, warming with shades of gold, wheat, and saffron.
  227.
  228. Gurashi's expression looked briefly pained though there is light at their heart. "Now that is not fair," They mumble, their lips pursing.
  229.
  230. Muffled laughter echoes from somewhere outside.
  231.
  232. You have emoted: Esei's lips twist into something soft, something sad, as their claws pluck lightly against the palm of one hand where many scars lay.
  233.
  234. The Mantle of Starlight shimmers and twinkles as the starlit darkness that it is formed of continues its eternal motion.
  235.
  236. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...things are hardly fair."
  237.
  238. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "...looking at you, seeing you here... it is still like I am breathing around shards of glass, around a knife in my heart, Gurashi."
  239.
  240. You have emoted: Esei sighs softly, shoulders slumping.
  241.
  242. Fluttering as if caught by a breeze, the silver threads of tinsel draped along Gurashi's wreath weave about in a haphazard pattern: conjuring new constellations and shapes as they glow from the sidereal light of the ornament's fine filaments.
  243.
  244. A flash! Another! And another still! The storm clouds above shudder from the onslaught of lightning, their silvery down woven with hidden scripture illuminated from within.
  245.
  246. Gurashi looks down at the book, pursing their lips, then quirking their mouth to the side, then huffing with a childlike pout. "You," They slam the journal shut, "come to -our- City, almost every single months." They collect their quill and shuffle to their feet. "Into my manse, my shops, this studies, the library, the gardens, the playgrounds. I am always happy to see you, always hopeful it will be a nicely time." They stare at the other sileni seriously. "But then you think sad or darkly thoughts and only half pay attention to me or what is going on, and it -kills- me, yes," They gather up the book, tears boiling up in their eyes. "How can -you- asks if -I- am still here? I did not change. You know I never would have left." Their hooves click on the ground as they look for their remaining belongings.
  247.
  248. The clouds overhead rumble ominously and bolts of lightning strike the ground, followed closely by peals of furious thunder.
  249. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "I loves you soooo much - the samely as I did the moments we became friends, family. That you thinks it has to be different, or that anyone tells you it has to be different ..."
  250.
  251. Gurashi shakes their head.
  252.
  253. You shake your head.
  254.
  255. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you say, "...nevermind. I never should have come here."
  256.
  257. With a gentle, euphonic lilt, Gurashi, The Heart's Friend says, "You are a goodly you."
  258.
  259. Gurashi points accusingly at you.
  260.
  261. Gurashi backs out of the room, eyes still shiny with tears.
  262.
  263. You have emoted: Esei leaps to their hooves, scraping harshly across the ground.
  264.
  265. [nyoom home]
  266.
  267. A stone bridge.
  268. The shadows violently writhe and twist along the ground here, indicating a war shrine of Nocht nearby. Large, heavy raindrops splash upon the ground. This small bridge provides a crossing point over the Glomdoring River. Constructed of grey stone, its edges are built up to form a low wall, whilst the centre is a well-trod path from south to north. Small symbols of birds and stars are carved deeply into the stone, some barely visible below the lichen and moss, others still clear and vibrant. Along the river, it is possible to see some distance to the west and northeast, as the ashes and willows drop back from the murky waters. To the south, a dirt track leads away into a dense ash forest, whilst the way to the north is dark and shadowy, bordered by blackened, twisted trees. A sedge of galingale is firmly planted in the forest floor. A marjoram bush flourishes here, spreading its delicate scent. Lovely coltsfoot carpets the forest floor. Sprays of chervil cover the forest floor. A hemlock sapling clings tenaciously to the ground here. Casting darkness all around, a shadow totem thrusts up from the ground, chilling the air.
  269. You see exits leading south and northwest.
  270.
  271. As the sun passes below the horizon's edge, Mother Night unveils her terrible, shadowy beauty, spreading darkness across the land.
  272.
  273. You have emoted: Esei places their hands on the wall of the bridge, all but clinging to it as tears fill their eyes, rolling down their face and hidden only by the rain.
  274.
  275. Echoed by a soft, adumbrated melody, you whisper, "You were right, You were right....."
  276.
  277. You have emoted: Esei buries their tear-streaked face into their hands, shoulders trembling with the force of their silent tears, lips parting to gasp shallowly.
  278.
  279. Muffled, you whisper, "...I am so sorry... You were right, and I should have just listened to You."
  280.
  281. You have emoted: Esei chokes out a sob as they wipe their face clear of water, rain and tears alike.
  282.
  283. You close your eyes and inhale deeply, absorbing the scent of your surroundings.
  284.
  285. You let loose a long breath from your lungs, exhaling slowly.
  286.
  287. You have emoted: Esei pushes their hair out of the way of their face, tilting their face back to gaze at the stormy night through the boughs above.
  288.
  289. Violet lightning crackles across the firmament, the heavy stormclouds above momentarily parting with the force of its passage to reveal the stars.
