- (The Kaibadome, and the area all around it, is bustling with excitement; the holographic screen high above the center of the arena reads 'Fortune Cup'.)
- Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen! I know we're all still reeling from that incredible second match, but it's almost time for our third! It's Cortez versus Hunter Pace!
- (Backstage somewhere, Cortez working on his runner and speaking with Tanner)
- Cortez: Whaddaya know about this What ?
- Tanner: Back then, he was the champion of turbo duels, until that Jack Atlas came and took his title.
- (Flashback. Hunter was the guy standing in line at the opening ceremony.)
- Tanner (VO): Apparently he wants his title back, so he's using some weird trick.
- (End Flashback.)
- Tanner: You gonna show some elemental hero action?
- (Cortez pauses, then looks away.)
- Cortez: I'm pulling some hero action alright, and I'm gonna show the Black Rose that I'm coming for her!
- (While he stands inside the Stadium)
- Hunter: Jack Atlas. I can't believe I lost to you a third time! But this time! (balds up his fist) I'm ready to get you!'
- (Suddenly Lezar came in to meet up with Hunter)
- Lezar: Glad to see you're ready to duel your opponent.
- Hunter: Hhmp! I'll stomp anyone who gets in my way! I'm heading for Jack and you know it!
- Lezar: Good! I want you try to push this new visitor to his limits to he how he duels. If you beat him, then you'll get a extra chance if you lose.
- Hunter: (makes a dark grin) I will be my pleasure!
- (Out in the stadium, the crowd is makin' some noise for the next duel.)
- Leo (to Dexter): Let's go get some cotton candy or something.
- Dexter: The duel's about to start.
- Yanagi: I can't wait to see Yusei turbo-duel!
- Tanner: Hmm. (think) I wonder what Goodwin wants with Yusei? First he lets 'im outta the Facility, then he invites 'im to this tournament. Just seems fishy...
- Announcer: Alright, everybody, are you ready!! It's time for the Fortune Cup's first turbo-duel! (crowd cheers) He's the spunky punk trying to get from third to first class! He's the little satellite who could! Dueling fans, I give you-- Cortez!
- (Cortez flies into the arena a few feet off the ground, out of a cloud of smoke. He lands quite smoothly and races onto the track, sparking at the wheels to turn to the side and brake. He looks up at the crowd, calm and serious, and can be seen on screen. The crowd boos and jeers)
- - He looks cool!
- - How's he special?
- -Who cares! Let's find out!
- Leo: You go, Cortez!
- Jack (think): Let's see what your deck is, kid!
- Announcer: Dueling him is the always-mysterious, our old time former turbo duel champion-- Hunter Pace!
- (Hunter's launch pad has a few special effects, and it looks like he comes flying right out of a localized piece of the Shadow Realm. He takes the second starting block.)
- - Show'em you're still the best, Pace
- - I'm still your number one fan!
- Leo: *Please*! He'll take that Hunter down in no sweat
- (Yusei's eyes flick over to scrutinize the face of his opponent with a creepy smile.)
- Announcer: With both duelists at the starting line, there's just one thing left to do! Gents-- start your runners!
- Computer: Duel mode engaged. Autopilot standing by.
- (The sky turns pink.)
- Announcer: This is the point of no return! Both duelists have activated their "Speed World" field spell! Now the only spells they can use are speed spells!
- (Cortez is still looking at Hunter as he aggresively revs the motor.)
- (Jack suddenly leans forward)
- Jack: Well...?!
- (As the computer voice speaks, both duelists' counters show 4000 lifepoints as they tensely await the call to start.)
- Computer: Turbo-duelists, countdown initiated. Ready, set, duel.
- (And they're off; as soon as they are, Shira's robe goes flying through the air. Yusei glances back, surprised; the crowd gasps. Hunter Pace laughs)
- Hunter: Ahahahahahaha! Let's do this
- Cortez (small grin): Bring it!
- (Cortez races ahead)
- Hunter: All right then!
- Tanner: Wonder what surprises, Cortez got for Hunter.
- Yusei: Allot!
- (The crowd cheers as the video screens around the stadium show a countdown: 3, 2, 1!)
- Hunter: First move's mine! <6:00> I draw! And from my hand I summon Burnin' Skull Head, in attack mode! Then I end my turn by placin' three cards facedown!
- [Burning Skull Head 1000///]
- (Scoreboard: Hunter and Cortez each have 4000 lp and 1 spd)
- Cortez: I'm up, then. (Draws and plays his draw) And I summon Elemental Hero Stratos in attack mode!
- [Elemental Hero Stratos 1800/300/stars/wind]
- Announcer: Looks like Cortez's not gonna waste *any time* getting on the offensive! Even when he has a monster to summon with higher attack point, so I'd bet my pompadour that we're about to see an attack!
- COrtez: Stratos! Strike 'im with Turbine-punch!
- Hunter: Sorry kid, but my "Zero Guard" trap card's puttin' the brakes on your Stratos. See, by takin' away all my Burnin' Skull Head's attack points, I can make it invulnerable to attacks, so you can't destroy it in battle!
- (Hunter's lifepoints are 2200; he swerves a bit.)
- Announcer: Wow! Talk about a turn of events! He saved his monster but Hunter's been slammed with eighteen hundred points of damage!
- Yanagi: Why would he willingly take such a big hit?
- Dex: He must have some sort of *reason* for wanting that monster around...
- Leo: After taking that much damage at once, his speed counters should drop, right? So uh, how come they haven't gone down?
- Hunter: I give you the Doom Accelerator trap! Thanks to this puppy, I'll be gainin' one speed counter for every five hundred points of damage I take in battle. Startin' right now!
- (Hunter's counters rise to 4)
- Cortez: What the?
- - Wow, what a move!
- - Unbelievable!
- Hunter: Aw yeyah! That's your first taste of a new speed acceleration deck, custom-engineered by yours truly!
- - Hey Hunter-- I never stopped being your fan!
- Cortez: Not a bad play, Hunter. But it'll take more than that to shake me. For now, I place two cards facedown and end my turn.
- Hunter: My turn then. I draw! I'm crankin' this duel up a notch, with the Summon Speeder spell!
- ("Speed Spell - Summon Speeder")
- Hunter: Since I have four speed counters, I can use Summon Speeder to bust out a new monster! So say hello to Skull Vase!
- [Skull Vase ///]
- Hunter: Next, by kickin' Skull Vase and Burnin' Skull Head to the curb, I can advance-summon Skull Flame! Sorry, kid, but I'm here to duel Jack Atlas again and regain my title! And well, boy, you're blockin' my way! So you gotta fall. Skull Flame! Burn up 'is lifepoints!
- Cortez: Huuugh!
- (Cortez lp: 3200, spd Hunter 5, Yusei 2)
- Announcer: Cortez may've kick-started this duel with a powerful attack, but the former turbo-champion has just unleashed a blistering combo, and instantly almost evened up the score!!
- (Crowd)
- - Man, Hunter's on fire!
- Hunter: Hmhm. And I'm just gettin' warmed up! Prepare for the *real* heat as I activate the "Speed Booster" trap card! With Speed Booster! I'm allowws to deal damage equal to the difference between mine and your speed counters multiplied by one hundred.
- Leo: Man, this guy's quick!
- (Speed Booster takes the place of a big fiery jet engine on the back of Hunter's runner, turning Hunter's speed into COrtez's damage.)
- Cortez: Aaagh!
- Hunter: Welcome to the *real* world a' turbo-duelin', kid! If you can't keep up, you're gonna get left behind! Hahahahahaha!
- Hunter: I came here to burn rubber and take names, Cortez, and *no one* is goin' to stop me from winnin' the chance to reclaim my title. See, when I was the number-one-ranked turbo-duelist in the world, I learned to defend my title by repeatedly deflecting attacks from *all* directions, just like my monster. But I also learned that to stay at the top, you gotta dish out damage hard and fast, so get ready ta feel the heat!
- Yanagi: Talks allot, doesn't he?
- Tanner: Unfortunately, he's able to put his money where his mouth is in this case, 'cause he's earned a big advantage.
- Leo: Did Cortez just crack a smile?
- Yanagi: I didn't see that! Is he smiling? Did *you* see 'im smile? Why would Yusei smile? (Tanner grins) Why're *you* smiling?
- Yusei: (cracks a smile) (think) I know why he's smiling
- Hunter: And now, to turn up the heat, satellite, I initiate Speed Booster's special attack!
- (Cortez's lp 2800)
- Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, this is a whole new Hunter Pace we're seeing! He's totally reinvented himself!
- Hunter: I'm on the fast-track to glory! No one can stop me! Don't blink, or you'll miss me! (draw) I'm bringin' a whole new intensity to turbo-duelin'! I'm gonna leave the entire world in my dust! I'm gonna-- huh?
- (He realizes that Yusei is no longer far behind, but neck and neck with him.)
- Cortez (draws): You're gonna *what*?
- Hunter: How're you keepin' up with me?! HUH?! "Slip Stream"?! Aw man, you gotta be kiddin' me!
- Yanagi: Is *that* why he was smiling?
- Yusei: Sure is. And with Slip Stream card in play, Cortez might be smiling all the way to the finish line. You see, Yanagi, since Hunter played a speed spell last round, and Cortez had fewer speed counters than him, Cortez's counters now catch up to where Hunter's are.
- Leo: Cortez rules!!!
- Dex: Let's just hope he makes use of this position.
- Hunter: You must think yer slicker than slick, don'tcha?
- (FB)
- FB Hunter: I draw! I'm crankin' this duel up a notch, with the Summon Speeder spell!
- FB Cortez: Hold it!-- I play "Slip Stream"!
- (end FB)
- Hunter: 'Know I heard some people sayin' you were good, boy; but I'm afraid yer just not good enough to keep up with *me*! I activate Acceleration Zone! Just *try* t'catch me *now*! Yeeeeeeaaaaaah! Hahahahaha!
- (This trap is officially known as "Accel Zone". The track ahead of Hunter starts to sparkle, and Hunter zooms ahead, glowing with blue light; he swerves sideways onto the bowl and flies halfway around the track. On Yusei's runner console we see the counters go shooting up; Cortez's current speed on the screen is 220 km/h and fluctuating.)
- Announcer: Incredible! Hunter's speed counter has rocketed all the way to eleven!
- (Cortez growls under his breath)
- Hunter: Whoooooooo-hooooooo!!!! You may think you outsmarted me by slippin' in your "Slip Stream" last round, but my deck is so fast that no matter what card you play or move you make, you'll always be a step behind! But that's somethin' you *unofficials* have to come to expect, isn't it?
- Cortez: Well I wonder if you *expected* me to play this-- the Speed Fusion spell card!
- Announcer: Whoa! Yusei met Hunter Pace's challenge with a direct counter!
- Hunter: Huh!
- Cortez: And I fuse Avian and Burstinitrix-- to =fusion-summon Elemental Hero FlameWingMan!
- (Both Avian and Burstinitrix got sucked into a vortex into a form of a mighty warrior from the white light.)
- Cortez: Let's speed up!
- Yusei's friends: All right!
- Yanagi: I guess you could say he's keeping pace with Hunter!
- Yusei: That's not the only thing he can do.
- Cortez: But before I attack, I activate my trap, Rising Energy! Now If I discard a card, I can give my WingMan an extra fifteen hundred attack points! It's go-time!
- Hunter: Heh! Forget my Speed Booster trap already?
- (Skull Flame turns around and blocks FlameWingMan's attack)
- Yanagi: Oh dear...!
- Leo: How did he stop FlameWingMan's attack like that?
- Tanner: Remember, with that Speed Booster trap card, Hunter can block the same number of attacks as their difference in speed counters!
- (Scoreboard: Cortez 2800, 6 ; Hunter 2200, 11)
- Leo: Oh right, so... since Hunter's at eleven, and Cortez's at six, then... (counted it on his fingers) Hunter's able to deflect five of Cortez's attacks?!
- Cortez: I've gotta find a way to push through this! I place three card facedown and end my turn!
- Hunter: Yeah-- that's what I thought! *I* draw!
- (Scoreboard. Cortez, 2800, 7; Hunter, 2200, 12)
- Announcer: Hunter is totally maxxed out! It doesn't get any faster than twelve speed counters, people!
- Hunter: After Jack took my title and I failed to snatch it back, I went into hiding to undergo some *serious* retraining. And I realized that if I was gonna again rule the turbo-duels, I had to put speed first!
- (Flashback; a big puff of dust rises from the canopy of the forest, as though from an explosion. Below, Hunter was racing through a forest at top speed, dodging trees.)
- Hunter (VO): You're as good as done in a turbo-duel if you can't fearlessly harness the awesome power of true speed!
- (Hunter is talking faster and faster as he and Yusei blaze around the side of the track.)
- Hunter: It's not *what*'cha do, it's how fast ya do it! Which I will now demonstrate by activating the Accelerate Draw speed spell! ("Speed Spell - Accelerator Draw") This lets me draw two more cards from m'deck!
- (The two cards are a high-level effect monster and "Speed Spell - The End of the Storm".)
- Hunter: Heh-hah! Oh, yeah!! It's in my hand-- the End of Storm spell card!
- (Jack is thunderstruck)
- Jack: What?!
- Cortez: He has the spell card End of Storm?!?!
- Hunter: Shoulda stayed indoors today, boy! Yer local forecast calls for some hardcore schoolin' and a whole lotta letdown, with a slight chance of annihilation! But it's too late forya now! I activate End a' Storm!! (strong winds start blowing) From what I understand, you an' Jack Atlas have some hist'ry, so I'm sure ya know what this means. The storm destroys every monster on the field, and then we both take three hundred points a' damage for every monster we had!
- (Cortez takes a hit; he's down to 2200 lifepoints.)
- Announcer: WOW! Hunter Pace has managed to nail Yusei for six hundred points of damage! But in doing so, he had to obliterate his own monster-- he *can't* attack now! What's he gonna do?
- Hunter: Hah! Now that the storm is blown over, I remove one Skull Flame in my grave from play. By doin' so, I can summon the incredible Speed King Skull Flame to the field in attack mode-- three thousand attack points in all!
- (This monster is officially known in the TCG as Supersonic Skull Flame)
- [Supersonic Skull Flame 3000/2300/L10/wind]
- Cortez: Not good!
- Yusei: Oh no!
- Tanner: Three thousand attack points?!
- Announcer: Not only did Hunter destroy every monster on the field and deal damage to Yusei, but he's managed to summon an incredibly powerful new monster! What a stupendous string of moves! This could be the end of the duel right here! Hunter Pace may be moving on in the tournament-- and Jack Atlas may be getting a little scared right about now!
- (Jack is not happy about this at all.)
- Hunter: This duel is over, boy! 'Cause Speed King Skull Flame is gonna attack you directly!
- Cortez: Well my "Defense Draw" should extinguish its attack!
- Announcer: Cortez has shielded himself from Hunter's Skull Flame!
- Hunter: Let's see whatcha do when I activate "Speed Booster"!
- (Several missiles shoot out of the back of Hunter's runner and zero in on Yusei; his lifepoints get knocked down to 1200lp)
- Dex: Ah! Oh no!
- Leo: Stay strong, Cortez!
- Hunter: And now I activate Speed King Skull Flame's special ability! So for every Burnin' Skull Head in my graveyard, you take four hundred points a' damage!
- Yusei: Ugh!
- (Cortez has 800 lifepoints left.)
- (Leo and Dex, Yusei and Tanner are cut-screened, their faces lit by the explosion)
- Announcer: Cortez is barely holding on, with a measly four hundred lifepoints! Can he survive?
- Goodwin (think): Come on, Cortez, show me your amazing XYZ summoning!
- Lezar: Can Cortez really pull off this unknown summoning?
- (Jack is listening)
- Yusei: It's my turn!
- (Scoreboard. Cortez, 800, 8; Hunter, 1900, 12.)
- Cortez: First I'm gonna slow this duel down a little bit, with "Reckless Greed"!
- Announcer: In a questionable move, Cortez has intentionally prevented himself from drawing any cards for two turns! What could he be thinking?!
- Yanagi: Maybe he *isn't* thinking!
- Tanner: He *must* be banking on his deck right now!
- Dex: Banking on his deck?
- Yusei: That's right. The trap card Reckless Greed let's you draw two cards from the top of your deck, but in doing do, you can't draw from your staring turn until two turns.
- Leo: *I* get it-- he's hoping he can bust out a game-changer!
- Tanner: Exactly! Our friend Cortez never stops believing in his cards.
- Cortez: Now with this trap card, I can draw two *more* cards, and next, I summon Heroic Challenger Extra Sword!
- [Heroic Challenger Extra Sword 1000/1000/L4/earth]
- Cortez: Now I play the Speed Spell-Summer Speeder! Now I can summon Elemental hero ClayMan!
- [Elemental Hero ClayMan 800/2000/L4/earth]
- Cortez: You may've been at the top of the ranks back in the day, Hunter, but that's only 'cause you never faced beasts with abilities like these!
- Dex: Hold on! He needs a Tuner Monster to Synchro summon. So what's he gonna do with them
- Yusei: This one is a far different form of summoning, that rivals Synchro summoning. Just watch
- Cortez: Now I Overlay my Level four ClayMan with my Level four Extra Sword to XYZ-summon-- Blade Armor Ninja! Let's speed it up one more time!
- HUnter: (amazed) Whaoo!-- What's that?!
- [Blade Armor Ninja 2100///]
- Hunter: Pretty cool monster-- but I can deflect yer attack with Speed Booster, so there was no point in summonin' than thing!
- Yusei: The only thing I should remember is he should get rid of his trap?
- Leo: Is do you *mean*?
- Tanner: He has one more trap to do it.
- Hunter: Check it out, ]boy-- I'm so much faster I'm about to lap you! Hehehaha!
- Cortez: That may be, but I'm activating the "trap - Raigeki Break"!
- Hunter: What is this?!
- Cortez: I can only activate Raigeki Break by discarding a card (he discarded Necro Guardna), in doing so, I can destroy one card on the field!
- Hunter: Oh no!! So that means--
- Cortez: Say goodbye to your Speed Booster!
- Leo: Wow-- talk about a big-time move paying off!
- Dex: How ironic-- he might manage to win a game of speed by slowing him down!
- Hunter: This ain't over!
- Cortez: It will be! Because Extra Sword was used as a Overlay Unit for a Xyz-summoned monster, the summoned monster gains one thousand attack points
- Hunter: Waaaaugh!
- Cortez: Nitro, attack with Electromagnetic Sword Slice!
- (Big showdown between Skull King and Blade Armor Ninja; Blade Armor wins; Hunter's down to 1400 lifepoints.)
- Hunter: I'm still ahead!
- Cortez: You would be, but my monster has a special ability! (Blade Armor absorbs the orbs with his sword) I use a Overlay Unit to allow him to attack again!
- Hunter: Wait, so that ninja can attack again?! But I don't have anything to protect me!!
- Cortez: Blade Armor, attack!
- Hunter: Aaaah!
- Announcer: Cortez is about to pull off a major come-from-behind victory!
- (Blade Armor hits Hunter's runner)
- Hunter: Can't we be friends?!
- (Explosion; Hunter's lifepoints read 0; Hunter's runner skids and comes to a halt)
- Announcer: It's OVER! There's just no love for the one-time champion these days; his dream goes up in smoke again!
- Leo: Cortez did it! I just knew he could do it!
- Yanagi: That was incredible!
- (Jack, up in the tower, does not look surprised, and merely nods)
- (Hunter is lying on the track, coughing and laughing, when Cortez approaches him, also smiling; both of them enjoyed this duel.)
- Hunter: Ahahahahahahah! Oh, *yeah*!
- Cortez: That was a really awesome duel, Hunter.
- Hunter: Don't think I'll take this loss sittin' down, kid. ...I prob'ly shoulda stood up before I said that... Man, I thought I had ya! Hahahahahahahah, ehehahahahahaha! (keeps laughing, and starts coughing again.)
- (Tower)
- Goodwin: Hunter was a good opponent to deal with.
- Lezar: Yes. That last display of his performing Xyz-summoning is quite amazing! Now all we will need is Yusei to duel Shira.
- Goodwin: That we will have
